Re: Red Dead Redemption

i can guarantee this. this success of this game will not hinge on the ability to swim.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

If anyone hasn't seen the map, here it is (although, I think some part may be missing.

The thing about swimming is there is 1 lake and a river through the center of the map, so there are not lots of opportunities to swim.

Any reviews or anything yet? I want to do the Walmart Pre-order but with the production issues I'm not sure.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

Yeh I'd like to see some too. It seems to me like it's going to be the sort of game where there's a lot of hype and it sounds amazing in previews but then ends up being a good but not great 80-85% type. That would still make it worth getting but not a must buy on the day of release. Hope Im wrong though.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

i'm going to buy the game on the day of the release instead of waiting to "buy" it used from Gamestop two weeks later after some kids trade their copies in. hopefully i don't regret it like LFD2.

edit: for those that might not know, you can return used games within 7 days of purchasing it from GS.

In italy it's 1 day to be eligible for a refund

7 days only if the copy is scratched and you want a new one.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

Does the "Redemption" in the title refer to the game designers?

Red Dead Revolver was one of the most disappointing games I've ever played. An hour into the game I thought it was going to be the greatest game ever. By the end of the game, I wasn't quite as excited.

lol qft,

But it's Rockstar who is designing this game, they sold the brand I think or acquired it. Everything about redemption looks centuries ahead of revolver.

I really enjoyed RDR but I had zero expectations going in. Just went to a friend's house and he happened to have bought it.

Actually every Western game I've ever played has been a pleasant surprise. It's just a good genre imo.

Here's 4 of the major ones. There's significant differences in giftcards and DLC. I'd choose Amazon because for just $1 more net after giftcards than Walmart you get the Golden Guns Pack.

Amazon: $60 + $20 GC + Golden Guns Pack (gives you "fame" faster)
Best Buy: $60 + Warhorse DLC (supposedly better than any horse in the game)
Gamestop: $60 + $10 GC + Assassin Outfit (your accuracy meter regenerates at double speed)
Walmart: $59 + $20 GC

EDIT: Amazon has changed their preorder deal from $55 + $10 GC + Golden Guns Pack to the one above. I already preordered under the old deal. I'm not sure if I'm getting the $10 or $20 GC because the order itself doesn't really specify, but I did get it at $55.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

So... Is "Marston can't swim" something the writers decided based on his character, or something that was cut from the game to help the developers make the release date because they were behind? I'm thinking the latter, which makes me wonder what other corners they might have cut. But I don't know much about the technical requirements involved in having Marston swim. Some extra character animations for Marston, and maybe a more detailed model for the water itself since you'd be in it and not just viewing it as scenery.

It's also possible they are using it to put barriers between areas in the single-player game. GTA games always come up with some reason you can't roam the whole world from the start.

Or, it makes sense with the character. Not a lot of swimmers back then, he could never swim with all that gear, and guns back then didn't work after being submerged, I think. People making a huge deal out of nothing.
