Apparently Game Informer have given it 9.75/10, which I think is higher than what GTA4 got.

reddead.net forums has a review collection thread with links to scans of the two magazine reviews that are out so far. This includes a less positive review from Games TM which rates the game 9/10.

In addition to the lack of swimming, reviewers might be further downgrading the game because Marston looks silly in a headband.

Scanned the GTM review earlier today. Looked like what they were really trying to say beneath all the pretty words was that that map is too empty and the sidequests don't have enough lasting impact on your characters.

I'm still quite eager to play this but map being too empty is bad news. And you could definitely tell they were trying to be as nice as possible in that review.

Surely the empty map is to be expected really, given the time period/location? It would be more odd if there were towns and villages everywhere.

And you can fast-track your way between destinations from camps so there's no need to traverse the plains every time you want to go somewhere.

yeah I don't see how this is an issue either. The map in GTA:SA was vast and there wasn't much in between towns other than roads to cruise on.

My friend preordered from Best Buy. How big of a beat is that?

I hope that horse is somehow easily hackable/available and he looks like a moran for passing up on the Amazon deal.

Guess I gotta order this thing. What looks like the best place to pre-order from?

Edit: I'm thinking Amazon.

Make sure you give him lots of **** about his $20 horse even if it is totally exclusive to the BB offer.
