Quite a lot of people I play with got it for the same reason: To replace TLOU: Factions. Didn't work. We all hated it and were right back on the Factions train......

I just bought the game today and I agree that the opening of this game is the WOAT.. I have to spend the 1st 1/2 hour just sitting there or crawling??? and WTF with this seeming supernatural fire guy??? I'm an hour in and they have yet to take the ****ing training wheels off?
Also there is nothing more annoying than cut scene that can't be paused or skipped.

The worst EVER? Nothing worse than MGSV?

Yes, it sucks. The rest is great until it repeats entire missions.

For games I've bought, yep. Worst purchase yet.

Picked up MGSV for $13 last week on sale from the PS Store. I echo the sentiments. Based on the reviews I thought I was going to love the game but that first hour was painful. I've completed the first few missions but it's not resonating with me at all.

Decent month for PS plus. Just Cause 3, an Assassins Creed mini-game, and Downwell.

WOW!! Just Cause 3?? I was actually considering buying that awhile back.

Ugh tried playing the new Orcs must die and you would think by the 3rd version the
controls would be somewhat close to manageable, but it is impossible to aim in this game because the joystick sensitivity is just insane. A slight touch on the analog stick goes from 1 side of the screen to the other. On the bright side it is FTP so I didn't lose any $$ w/ an unplayable game.

Just tried Killing Floor 2, which was free either this month or last. If you're into team-based games like Left for Dead or COD Zombies (never played the latter myself), it's a ton of fun. So far I've just played a single round of survival but I'm already itching to get back into it after work today.

Are there enough diffrences to justify an elite ps4 over the regular one? I plan on playing some madden/cod/fifa most of the time.

The only reason not to go with the pro is if the $100 or so price difference means a lot to your budget. . In the short term the 1 obvious benefit is 4k resolution. So if you have a 4 k display or plan getting one soon it's a no-brainer. You also get double the storage space compared to the Slim version.

The storage space was pretty important for me, so for that alone, it was worth it. If I didn't snag every single free PS+ game, 99% of which I'll never play, I wouldn't have needed it.

There are 1 TB slims...

I get that the $ isn't much but if you know you're not gonna have 4k in the next 5 years why waste the $?

As was mentioned in the other thread, it gives a lot more than exactly the same but at 4K. Basically 90% of games are improved in some way. Simply using a 4K pipeline outputting to a 1080p screen looks considerably better. I don't have a 4K TV, bought full price with no trade in even and it's been easily worth it. I do have a PSVR though. Imo it's a no-brainer for ~$100 more, less than the price of 2 games.

This thread has details on a per-game basis: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1324251

"Next 5 years" is also quite a long timeframe to commit to not buying any 4K displays.

Wow that's very interesting that games are so improved without a higher display. I would be curious about the mechanisms behind that. Is it just that the pro renders higher quality textures/animations in anticipation (or not) of the 4k and a chunk of that improved quality still comes through on 1080p?

I just meant that most people don't buy new TVs very often, and most people don't have 4k TVs. I bought my current TV, a 42" cheapest-I-could-find 1080p, 7 years ago and it's still 100% fantastic. I'm about to make a big life change and will probably buy a fancy new one, but I can't imagine buying one for like 10 years after that unless there's some groundbreaking new change in technology. I def wouldn't pay a high premium (from what I understand the price difference isn't much, so this is a purely theoretical point) for a 4k TV if I didn't play video games.

There are sometimes improved textures / texture filtering, but the main technique is just rendering a 4K (or at least larger than normal) image and resizing it down to 1080p as the final step prior to output. This is called downsampling or supersampling, and is the best looking but most computationally expensive antialiasing method there is - if going from a full 4K, you're basically rendering 4 whole pixels with the full graphics pipeline for each one in the output and taking the average. It vastly reduces stair-stepping and pixel-crawl. It still looks even better when each of those pixels is actually shown on a screen, of course.

Yeah, regarding TVs what I mean is it's getting tricky now to get a non-4K, if you want an actual good one it isn't an option. Last Black Friday in the states a 40" Samsung ku6300 was going for $400 or less, and it's by no means a cheapo model (well, it is compared to the better models, but it's no random no-name mess). What I mean is "4K" on a TV isn't an optional upgrade any more, buying a new somewhat decent TV at any point from 2016 on and it will be 4K.

You're probably in for a treat when/if you get a new one! But as you say, the old ones still look great (that is until you put it next to a new one).

I also don't mean to say getting a standard PS4 is bad, really. It's still a great console. Just I certainly do not consider the extra $100 to be "a waste of money" at all. It's def not such an obvious choice if you've already got a standard and no 4KTV and wondering about upgrading (though I have been satisfied). Added to that there's likely a PS5 in a little over 2 years, maybe 3.

1080p TVs are few and far between anymore. Everything is 4k now. Problem is, most of the low price 4k TVs completely suck when it comes to motionblur or an overall good looking picture when the screen is moving. They all produce an amazing still image, but make sure you sample movement (NFL game, NBA with the camera panning across the court) before you decide on a model

Assuming the game is decent, it's a smart move for fortnite to release their battle royale mode as free to play immediately.

Battle Royale games have a lot of buzz at the moment thanks to PUBG and the 1st to build a good player base on a console version will be in a great place to monetize it later.

Been watching a streamer friend play this on occasion and it looks interesting. I'm playing the Ghost Recon PvP Beta this entire weekend, but will probably jump into this next week.
