Sony announces that all PS3 games will be playable on PC and also will sell a wireless adapter for using the DualShock 4 on PC.

I don't get this. If all ps3 games can play on a pc, why not on a ps4?

What they are doing in the case of the article I posted is not backwards compatibility, it is an online streaming service called PS now which will soon be offered on PC as well. The downside is that w/o a steady internet connection the controls can be very laggy.

The humblebundle is mostly PS3 only except for 1 or 2 games that I think were released on both systems.

PS4 "Pro" preordered!

Presentation was awful by Sony standards, I guess that's why they called it a "meeting" rather than "conference" and barely hyped it at all.

Leaks all those months ago were perfectly accurate. 4.2TF GPU, 2.1GHz Jaguar. Unexpected bonus it has a 3rd USB 3.1 on the back! And it's cheap! The slim is more expensive than I expected however.

It feels like the PS4 slim is a single cheese burger and the pro is a double cheese burger... I am fat.

Tip for the PS+ people.

As has been mentioned price is going up to $60 per year shortly (from $50). If you want to save yourself ten dollars go buy the 12 month extension now instead of waiting for your current 12 months to be finished. You can still get it at the old price even if you aren't due for renewal until after the price increase.

I'm off to buy 3 cheeseburgers out of my savings.

I didn't mean like hand him one right there, but I figured they'd be like 'Thanks for your hard work, we'll get one shipped to you on release day!' or something. Probably just a pipe dream but I would kinda expect them to buy lunch at the very least...

Also this seemed kind of underwhelming no? The lack of 4K Blu-Ray player, while not a huge loss, is kind of surprising after the less powerful Xbox One S already has one. I was probably not going to upgrade despite having a 4K TV and I certainly don't think this pushed me over the edge.

yeah, the internet is pretty pissed about this release. I shoulda got a ps4 at launch and an xbone around now, instead of the other way around

I feel dumb because i kept trying to find ps4 slims on sites, until i realized the slims were the new base model, so that's why there's no results for 'ps4 slim'

edit

or maybe they just took longer than the Pros to get added to websites

wtf?

anyhow, uncharted 4 supposedly goot. might be a decent bundle

The event was certainly underwhelming as an internet viewer. Unfortunately we simply could not see any of the things they were trying to demonstrate. Impossible to show HDR 4k content through a heavily compressed 1080p at best youtube stream, being viewed on a standard SDR display.

I preordered the Pro as soon as I saw it up on Amazon, but that's hardly commitment since it can be cancelled at any point with no penalty. Keeping it though, for sure.

This article is a very worthwhile read: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...ystation-4-pro

I went into the PlayStation Meeting today as a sceptic, believing that the hardware may not be up to the task of powering a 4K display. The good news is that several hours later, I emerged from the event impressed with the quality of the experience and respectful of the wizardry utilised to make this GPU punch above its weight.

I first took a look at the results in Days Gone, the open world survival horror title from Sony Bend. I observed the pixel structure on a 65-inch Sony 4K display from just two feet away, and then I moved closer. It looked good, seriously good. There is a slight softness compared to the pin-sharp precision of a native 4K presentation, but even close-up, the effect works well - in a living room environment, it should work just fine. In common with the other titles using this technique, the demo code we saw can switch in real-time between 1080p and '4K' at the press of a button, with HDR on and off also selectable. There is a clear, unambiguous night and day difference between 1080p and the 4K mode, which is clearly resolving more than the basic 2x increase in pixel throughput being generated at the base level. In fact, the detail increase is almost revelatory - and that applies equally to both Days Gone and Horizon Zero Dawn.
Also very much worthwhile listening to the author of the above article speaking with his colleague who watched it on stream, comparing experiences soon after the event:

The video especially convinced me, and had me scouring Amazon for deals on a HDR 4K TV for a short while lol. Though I'll be sticking with my usual display for a while yet.

All the internet bluster about lack of UHD BD drive is fascinating. I too was expecting it, and shocked it doesn't have one - I was expecting it in the slim even! But yeah, not gonna miss it. Without investigating beforehand, I thought it was quite a big thing - but here In the UK we can buy from Amazon right now only 28 UHD Blurays, and about half of those are preorders. Thinking about my past buying habits, I had a ton of DVDs and I have only a handful normal Bluray.

I don't think it's a mistake on Sony's part - they surely have more data than most showing the direction the market is taking with respect to physical media consumption vs streaming.

And if cost savings from not pushing "the next big thing for movies" were part of the equation allowing the Pro to come in at the frankly absurd price point it has done, that's fine by me. I mean seriously, the Pro has more than 3x the gaming power of the Xbox One S for and extra $50 when comparing like for like - as a games machine, it's insane value!

Ha, my mom's always telling me I should move up by them and work at Sony Bend, didn't know they actually make cool stuff there.

Sony said that the decision to skip UHD had to do with the trend toward streaming. They feel like physical media is still a big thing for games but not so much video now and especially going forward.

So is the consensus that the PS4 Pro is pretty much mandatory if you want to optimally run Playstation VR?

Not at all. They've been demoing PSVR on PS4 for over two years, I think. Sony has made it clear from the beginning that they will not allow any game that drops a single frame below 60 fps on PS4 to pass cert for PSVR.

I have PSVR pre ordered and no plans to buy a Pro anytime soon, if ever.

Been having soo much fun playing Don't Starve Together which was released on PS4 today.

If you have the base game already, which was a PSN free Game at one point, you can get DST and both single player expansions for ~ $10.

I don't know one way or the other, but I would assume not. Unless they're PS3 games that can now be played on PS4.
