Skyrim VR was probably the most hyped PSVR title for the holidays, got it's own hardware bundle even. It is a full priced $60 game. It's also superb.

I'm seeing Persona 5 show up on a few GOTY lists, never really played a game like that myself.

Skyrim VR. Those bundles in particular were selling out.

If you're going to judge PSVR's success by the number of AAA titles, then I don't know what to tell you. VR is still in it's infancy. PSVR has exceeded Sony's expectations and outsold the other headsets combined. Zero chance that the PS5 doesn't include PSVR 2.0 bundles.

Yeah its just we've heard that its in its infancy for a while now, it wouldn't surprise me if VR headsets never become as popular as any of the major consoles.

Also skyrim being the best that's out recently is pretty sad since its been out for years and keeps getting relaunched on every console known to man. Ill keep judging any system by the games available since playing quality games is the whole point. From a business perspective, selling AAA titles is how you make money, and that obviously isn't happening.

Honestly I wouldn't be shocked if VR porn becomes the major reason for owning a headset.

Who ITT has a PSVR, and what do you regularly play on it regularly?

The headset released a year ago. We're still on the first generation of headsets. You've been hearing that it's in it's infancy for awhile now because it is.

There are more ways to make money than selling AAA titles. From a business perspective, why would anyone expect devs to invest in AAA titles for a PSVR base of 2 million when there is a PS4 base of 70 million+?

I don't know what people who knock the current VR landscape were expecting as far as a timeline, but the vast majority of VR proponents I have been following for the past few years have had their expectations met or exceeded at this point. Nobody expected 20 million units or something sold on the back of a bunch of AAA titles in the first year. VR as a platform is doing just fine.

As for Skyrim, we can judge it for how many platforms it's on or for the entirely new and amazing experience it is in VR. I rolled my eyes when it was announced, too. Then I played it.

I've been playing Skyrim VR almost exclusively lately, but off the top of my head, all of these are games I still play at least occasionally.

Skyrim VR
Resident Evil 7
Superhot VR
RIGS
Raw Data
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
Dirt Rally
Farpoint

There are quite a few upcoming releases that I'm interested in as well.

I can't remember all of the other 2018 games that I've seen but Ace Combat 7, Wipeout VR (!), and Inpatient are looking great.

Current VR is pretty cool. If you can handle motion sickness better than me, I can imagine it would be amazing.

And to think what the next generation can do with it is mind boggling.

Could someone remember to bump this every month with the PS Plus games. I've missed the last three I think.

January 2018
  • StarBlood Arena (PS VR)
  • Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (PS4)
  • Batman: The Telltale Series (PS4)
  • Sacred 3 (PS3)
  • The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 (PS3)
  • Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness (PS Vita, PS4)
  • Uncanny Valley (PS Vita, PS4)

and some lame Warframe f2p crap

I will if nobody has done so by the time I look. I make sure to grab everything regardless of quality each month lol. This month seems an excellent one!

What have you been trying?

Believe me, you will get over it. Key is to NEVER try and push through more than a slight queezy feeling, just stop right away and resume later / next day. Also take some time playing games with less brutal movement, Ocean Descent and Rush of Blood I think are pretty good - they have some movement but relatively slow and plenty of other things to focus on. Non-movement games like Batman and Super Hot build the VR-legs also, just time in VR helps a lot.

Also make sure to try the different options - some people get sickness from teleporting/step-turn, yet are fine with max-speed smooth movement/turning, even!

If you like ginger, I hear ginger cookies / sweets etc help for some people.

I haven't played a lot of VR games, but I'm fine in all the games I was staying still in.

The one that hit me was GT5. As you can imagine a car moving (around turns particularly) is a lot of movement. I only completed 3-5 minutes before stopping. I didn't even feel sick. It was more of a weird feeling. And it hung with me for 30 or so minutes afterwards. A couple of hours later I had another 5ish minute run, but stopped as I had the same feeling.

I've been reading up on ways to adapt to it better. I'll try some out and see how I go.

Warframe is supposed to be excellent FWIW; apparently it wasn’t great when released but the devs continued to improve it. Don’t know what the f2p structure is though.

Batman Telltale series is pretty decent so far if you got it free in January. I've played two episodes. Parts are the standard early-Batman crap we're so bored of, but there's some genuinely interesting new elements (including class consciousness following from the Nolan movies). Not sure how it will all shake out.

Agreed, I'm also through 2 episodes and enjoying it, but it has to be the buggiest release Telltale has put out. Random crashes/chapter restarts/button entry misses/etc etc. However, for story and pacing I'm quite enjoying it.

Yea it's noticeably slower and clunkier too than even Game of Thrones (which I like a lot after 2 episodes).

Same here. Actually been thinking of picking up the complete edition, but was waiting for it to go on sale 1st. Big fan of the souls games even though I'm terrible at them.

Anyone pumped for the new GOW coming out? I've been a big fan of the series even with the last one being not as good imo. It looks like they removed the jump option though so I am not sure how I feel about that yet with that being an integral part of the previous games.

Uhh yes. GOW is an amazing franchise. I recently replayed each one on PS Now in anticipation of the new release. It was really a great experience. Can't wait to see the new take on things.

Really bummed about the recent news for The Last of Us 2 but hopefully it means they're adding more content and it will release as a better game than the 1st.

Only played GoW3 and found it to be just ok; new one does look good though, might be a budget buy down the road.
