On the other hand I think TLOU is one of the most overrated games of all time. I would recommend the Witcher 3 expansions.

I have not yet played The Witcher but agree with this assessment on TLOU - some fun inventory mechanics and a good story but people go nuts for it. Combat is repetitive AF.

Yeah it's a good game just not a masterpiece in game design it was sort of praised for. Good story/atmosphere and amazing production values but mechanics and flow were kind of average. It didn't really do much to innovate the stealth genre or anything. There was some broken promises about AI and it ended up being kind of **** too. Still, it's a decent game and worth playing if you think that kind of setting will interest you.

100% agreed. It's a solid, well polished survival horror game, definitely worth playing, but nothing particularly special at all IMO. Gameplay trumps story and characters, no matter how "good" the story and characters may be. I play video games for the GAME. Naughty Dog is more interested in making their cheesy B movies at this point than they are gameplay.

Anyone else pumped for Horizon Zero Dawn? Reviews have been glowing.

Yep, especially after those reviews. And the Digital Foundry video that shows perfect frame pacing at all times and almost never a slowdown.

It looks semi-intriguing but not necessarily my type of game, and with two AAA's I'll be buying in March (Show 17 and Fractured But Whole) I think I'll wait til this one goes on sale.

SP game has been delayed with a release date range of anywhere from April 2017 to March 2018.

Yeah I'm pretty excited for it, probably won't get it just yet but I've been intrigued since seeing it at last year's Playstation event, reviews are really solid too. I'm not too into deep crafting systems so this looks like it will scratch the itch without overwhelming.

I'm a big fan of Naughty Dog games.

TLOU is a great game imo. While some of the observations here around repetitiveness of the combat system are true, the game is really not long enough - ~ 15 hours - for that to be a factor that made me get tired of the game in any way. If it was a Witcher or Skyrim type 80-100 hour game then certainly you would want a deeper progression and variety.

What I really liked about TLOU was the sense of dread that I would feel entering a new area knowing that I was gonna be facing a fight - especially on higher difficulties.

It's also true that ND's games have a bigger focus on the linear story-telling and cut scenes than the typical open world "main and side mission" structure of a lot of games today (e.g. Witcher 3). Depends much on whether you like that or not - I like both types of games about equally.

Seeing as how in your list you have 5 Naughty Dog games, I would recommend that you play TLOU Remastered first and decide if you like that type of game and if so then you could invest the considerable time needed to get through the UC series.

If you do like the style of game that ND makes, then I recommend you do the Nathan Drake collection before UC4 if you want to learn the whole story, but that's not essential. It's not like you will spoil anything if you play them out of order.

If you just wanted to play one of the UC games, I would recommend UC4 as I think it's the most polished, although a lot of people seem to think 2 or 3 have the better storyline.

Not sure if mentioned earlier in thread, but Yooka-Laylee comes out mid April.

If you grew up loving 3d platforms like Super Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie, it's the game for you.

All the major talent behind most of the great Rare games of the 90's has reformed and this is their first outing.

The thing about TLOU was the brutality, and depending on your own life, it'll get to you differently. I won't go into detail because you haven't played it but you'll understand pretty quick why some got what they got out of it and others got something else. It also depends on how you game. I don't get into horror games because I don't get immersed or effected by jump scare type things. But if you play games in a way that you end up living in their worlds while you play, you're really in for a treat.

For me, the TLOU experience isn't complete without diving into the MP. The fighting is so intimate and brutal and completely unlike any other MP I've ever played. And it was something they threw together kind of last minute.

Seeing what eventually happened with Factions (TLOU MP) and how UC4's MP is, I'm genuinely worried that TLOU2's MP is going to be very subpar. I wasn't worried until a few month into UC4's. Naughty Dog knows how to make a great SP, but they're clueless, or stubborn, in how to make a great MP.

This PS4 game I found copies on ebay for only $17. Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition. If you played any DmC game, you know it is a big button mash game. Gameplay was fun, enjoyed the enemies, and had good animation. A decent game re-released for PS4 in 60fps.

Never played DMCs. Assume I will enjoy it if I liked God of War and the good recent Ninja Gaiden?

It's more comparable to Ninja Gaiden than God of War but if you liked them then you should like DMC. Devil May Cry 4(which originally came out before DMC) is better than all those games though so grab that if you can.

Keep in mind it's about 15 years old but the first DMC is great with it's close quarter intense battles, bosses, and cool powerups (for it's time). I highly recommend giving it a try.

I couldn't get into Devil May Cry 4, felt slow compared to Bayonetta and Metal Gear Revengeance and the camera was terrible. DMC was a lot better on that front, though.

It is slower but that's not necessarily a bad thing, just different. The same guy that made the first 4 Devil May Cry games made Bayonetta and it's a clear evolution. Bayonetta 1 and 2 are 2 of my favourite games of all time and much better than any DMC or any game in that genre. MGR is really good but I still prefer the DMC 1 - 4. I thought the "new" DMC was ok but nothing special.

There was a HD release of the first 3 games on PS3 and 360. The game called "DMC" is not a remake of the original if that's what you mean.

DMC 1, 3, and 4 are all great but 4 is slightly less good than 1 & 3 IMO. Stay the hell away from 2.

The last game, DmC, was a reboot actually. It wasn't even made by Capcom, it was made by a different development team and published by Capcom.

I never got it but the fan consensus was that they totally ruined the vibe and attitude of the game. DMC games had always featured that sort of cheesy, snarky, Japanese anime attitude to a degree. The reboot turned it all goth/emo gayness, think the Crow.

There's been strong rumblings int he rumor mill that Capcom is working on DMC 5 proper.

These mentions of Devil May Cry, Bayonetta and Metal Gear Revengeance - is anyone intending to pick up Nier: Automata?
