I mean, I am willing to put some effort into discovery if you can get at least some clues and some useful information, but a random search to cover the kinds of area necessary to capture something resembling a complete set could cover hundreds of square miles, even in a major metro area. Maybe we disagree, but games I enjoy let me geek out a bit on them to figure out a plan to go about winning it, not to just have the best plan be to no more sophisticated than to spin the roulette wheel and pray. Not to mention, the game literally lies to you about what pokemon are nearby. Two people standing in the same spot will see different lists, and when cross-referenced with pokevision, you can see that the rare pokemon on your "nearby" list is so far away that you'd have no chance to get it even by car before it would disappear. And then you may hit something, even something decent, that never appeared on the "nearby" list at all. If the designers wanted us to be clueless, why bother giving us something resembling clues?

As the game exists now, if you don't use any external resources, the "point" of the game is to wander and catch pidgeys, or to hang out at lures and catch a somewhat expanded set. Personally, I think that wears off its fun faster than at least having a plan of attack to find new critters in the wild and capture them.

Yeh, it's sooooo fun driving to an exact location and catching a guaranteed pokemon you don't have...lol

By "plan of attack" i guess you mean having a map that leads you to the treasure. But unlike the pirate, you don't even have to dig.

My friends and I have driven and explored (by foot) more places than we ever would have had it not been for pogo. You seem upset though, so I'll let you sulk in the corner with your 5 pidgeys

To be fair, you seem upset enough to mount your justification in defense.

I just think it's silly that these people are upset because they live in the boonies and can't find pokemon. Is it also cheating to use IV calculators to figure out which pokemon to evolve and which to dump?

You are just reinforcing my point. I have explored too. Exploring is not going to a location to catch guaranteed new pokemon.

I'm not upset, i'm just sayin, yes it is obviously cheating. Many agree with me (Niantic def do). I've caught plenty of pokemans.

P.S. sorry for pwning you Wookie. I just had to make my point.

Robik, perhaps i'll draw you a map, with the X being the door out. lol

Pokevision always seemed like it would take the fun out of the game for me so I never used it

The servers crashing has nothing to do with pokevision, etc.

Pokevision and similar apps just eat into their profits by making them spin up more servers on the cloud and costing them money.

Traffic should not be an issue for them if they have competent programmers. They just want to keep server costs down as much as possible so they can make more money. All these decisions are money based. Stop thinking it has anything to do with "cheating" or fairness or blah, blah blah. Wouldn't be surprised to see them come out with their own "super radar potion" that does the same thing that costs 80 gold for 30 mins.

(And no I'm not salty. That just how these companies are run. There are way more discussions at Niantic about monetizing the game then about gameplay.)

people netdeck me

if you want a good comparison, i've constantly said third party in game deck trackers are basically cheating and I dont use them.

wat, I didn't say about a connection with pokevision and servers

what I have noticed is that ever since they stopped doing the 1/2/3 step thing the servers have been working. having the servers working is more important to me than the steps which is why I said Im fine with now vs then. don't get the rest of your point, they could technically have one server per player but they use some balance of cost vs performance like everyone does for everything.

Ahh yep. Conflated your post with another probably.

Regardless I still think the reason they shut down pokevision, etc was to save on server costs and/or they are going to come out with a similar feature that will be ptp.

Sniping is pretty pointless. It's pretty trivial to take down one more pokemon, no matter how strong.

Better way to mess with people is those that are trying to power up a gym so they can add their guy. Since powering up is so much slower than taking down, if you really want and have the time you can just sit there and keep taking it down a bit so they can never level it up (this works even better when its a group of people since they need to level it up a few times).

sniping gyms on your own team is a much better troll. see some guy training up 2K prestige to get a guy in then drop your guy first so he has to take it up another level

Pretty clearly cheating if one thinks trackers are cheating. So would using any sort of guide. The designers didn't give you any info in-game, ergo they don't want you to know the best strategies and learning outside of the game is cheating.

/nonsense arguments

Going to do another zoo trip later this week with a secret weapon - a portable battery to recharge my phone.

AFAIK this is not cheating.

After that I think I'll be all set to pop a lucky egg and do a mass evolve. Should have at least 50 evolves, although over half of that will be Pidgeys, Weedles, and Rattatas, of course.

And one of the evolves will be to another Seaking so whatever minor "cheating" I did with Pokevision is pretty much moot.

if the radar worked like it was supposed toot wouldnt be bad but over 50% of pokemon that pop up arent on my radar at all esp. if its not pidgey eevee or weedle. ive also never seen less than 3 steps for any pokemon on my radar

Haha, battery charger is an almost must, I ordered mine the first week of play.

FYI, all Ingress players swear by the brand Anker. I've been nothing but pleased with mine.

My anker just arrived yesterday (sunday delivery from amazon wtf? thanks i guess). Bit bigger/heavier than I would have liked, but apparently it can charge 7 iphones from dead, so that's always nice. They're all like 50% off on amazon right now

Yeah, I think we have the same model. It's a tad heavy but not too bad. It charges stuff SUPER fast. They had a prime sale the first week of Pokemon where it was half off plus an additional discount prime users, $25 for an $80 charger was a no brainer.

Also, it's an easy way to befriend other trainers.

It doesn't matter, they just have USB ports so you'll still use your phone cable.
