The guys leaking the water event leaked an ice/fire event starting in 9 days:

"Trainers,
With summer quickly approaching in the Northern Hemisphere and winter approaching in the Southern Hemisphere, we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the upcoming solstices than with a Fire-type and Ice-type Pokémon GO event.
From 1:00 P.M. PDT on June 13 to 1:00 P.M. PDT on June 20, 2017, Trainers around the world will discover more Charmander, Cyndaquil, Growlithe, Houndour, Ponyta, Swinub, Vulpix, and their Evolutions. You’ll also want to keep an eye out for Sneasel, Magmar, Cloyster, and other Fire types and Ice types!
It’s time to perfect your Poké Ball throws, Trainers! Throughout the event, you’ll receive huge XP bonuses for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws, as well as Curveballs and First Throws. Additionally, as you walk around your neighborhoods or discover new sights, you’ll earn even more XP for hatching Eggs. To help you take advantage of these awesome XP bonuses, Lucky Eggs will be 50% off in the in-game shop.
Get ready to explore the world"

This sounds to me like gyms have become stagnant and they are about to wipe them all clean to introduce the new battle system. There goes all my camped out mon in gyms...sigh

Let's be honest, it's a good thing. Gym stagnation is real, between incessant botters and legit players who camp 50+ pokemon in gyms-- change will be good.

This. Seems like every gym level 10 and is held by the same 4-6 players. If it does get taken down, the original team reclaims it and has it back up to level 10 in a day.

Over 11 months into the game and at level 32, finally evolved my first Dragonite tonight. Had walked my Dragonair up to 99 candy and then hatched a 10k egg which happened to be a Dratini with 32 candy.

I still play the gym game, but not for much longer...

I'm halfway into level 36 and you basically needed to be around level 33+ to seriously participate in the gym game long-term, otherwise your strongest mon was something that had massive weaknesses like Gyrados that would only sit on the bottom-half of the gym due to the cp cap for your level and eventually get shaved out.

Of course NONE of the current gym meta might apply here in the next day or so since they are sending back all mons currently on gyms and implementing a new gym system. It is probably needed though. I mean I have a combined 300+ hyper-potions and max potions in case I need to go get on some gyms at any point (or in case my wife and I feel like demolishing level 10 instinct gyms, which doesn't happen as frequently for us these days) and I have to fight so infrequently for gyms that this number just keeps growing.

Also, current event is amazing for walking around heavily lured, pokestop and pokemon dense areas. I am pulling like 120k XP per hour right now and have gone up 800k since the start of this event. I am going to get to level 37 before the solstice comes.

I just went pineco-pineco on two 10k's so Pokemon gods can eat a bag of dicks. On plus side did find an absolutely insane Onix nesting grounds. I'm level 26, before yesterday had seen I think maybe 3 Onix the entire time I have played. Caught literally 50 in about 2 hours yesterday, another 25 or so today. Have evolved 3 Steelix so far, finally got a perfect moveset on the third one.

Details of the gym revamp have been released, seems like some pretty cool stuff.

http://pokemongo.nianticlabs.com/en/post/raids

cliffs (from reddit):

- Gyms will now also give items like Pokestops.

- Prestiging has been removed entirely.

- CP no longer determines the order of battle - it's now "in the order they were assigned to the Gym."

- A new motivation system has been implemented:

This will decay over time, and is reduced every time it is defeated. When it is reduced, the CP will be lowered so it is easier to defeat. When it reaches zero, it "faints" and returns to the player.

You can treat Pokemon of your team with berries to recover the motivation - not only yours.

Gyms now give Gym Badges, unique per gym. You level this by battling, feeding, or spinning in the gym. Higher gym badge level will give you increased items and rewards at said gym.

Raid Battle Feature:

You need a Raid Pass to participate. You can get one a day (non-cumulative) in gyms, or buy a pack of premium raid passes.

These involve battling "raid bosses", powerful (AI) Pokemon in gyms, with up to 20 players. If you can defeat it within 5 minutes, you’ll have the chance to catch an extra powerful Pokémon of your own!

New Items: Obtained only by beating raid bosses, they are:

Rare Candies. See this as a "wildcard" candy - can be changed to any Pokemon's.

Golden Razz Berries. Like Razz Berries, but better.

Technical Machines (Fast/Charged): Permanently teach a Pokemon a new Fast/Charged attack.

Raids seem pretty legit. Everyone would love to retrain a high IV mon with a piss poor moveset.

If a gym is full of your own team, are you still just basically stuck? Seems like the botters could just stock a gym and feed them berries pretty easily?

i didn't notice a huge difference in spawn locations. yea some spawns added or moved or wherever, but the apartment complexes and grocery store parking lots still have a crap ton of spawns in them - probably wouldn't notice if they shifted a little, there's still a crap ton. most of the spots on commute still seem the same.

i am digging the new pokestops and gyms that were added though. that's pretty huge.

Oh nice there's a spawn point in range of my house for the first time in many months.

New gym changes look great
