so this is garbage right?

more pikachu with hats = garbage
more starters = don't care and don't need (in my case and i expect others top grinders)
one incubator per day = nice I guess but not going to help me at all.

I have 9 5km eggs and I can't get any walking due to the period and the cold so unless they increase egg limits all this will be useless

And here i was about thinking about of Artikuno and Mewtwo

I've been grinding hard for a Charizard recently and I still need 97 more candies for a Venusaur so this is perfect for me. Free incubators are great aswell. WP

so there is a disadvantage/penalty in the holiday event?
greater chance of the new baby pokemon from eggs.... That just further waters down the pool making it harder to get the ones we want... eg snorlax lapras dratini.

Isnt an event supposed to be good things not penalties?

The chance of getting a 10km egg is so small that it barely even matters tbh. I'm just happy if I can dodge Paras/Venonat from the 5km eggs

When you think about it a 2.36m dragonite that weighs 65kilos should look skinny as stick not fat

I agree this event is kind of a let-down, but it might go over fine with the occasional players they're trying to target. In fairness there's not much they could offer me right now besides more 10k eggs, stardust, or Gen II Pokemon. I'm not spending anything on the game now since I've been running so atrociously cold on 10k eggs for about 2 months...just doesn't make sense to keep putting out for incubators just to get more 5k eggs which do zip for me.

Some of the local folks that are higher level seem to feel like they've been nerfed on 10k eggs too, wonder if there's more to that than our anecdotal experience. But either way incubators add up pretty fast, you get a tiny chance at a 10k and and then only a tiny chance to get something you really want from one. 10k is a pretty good hike for an Onix.

you know you can throw on a jacket and hat and walk in the cold right?

Been running real hot on 10k eggs

Could be a lot worse imo. I wasn't sure if we'd get any more than we had already gotten. One use incubators are worth like 67 in game coins, and this should at least help you power through a bunch of 5k eggs while you hunt for the 10ks.

Is using incubators on 5k's the way to go though? That's part of the reason I feel personally disappointed : I find it hard to justify using incubators on 5k's simply because it doesn't make a lot of strategic sense, obviously you want to cover as much distance as possible with "free" incubators so I've been waiting for 10k's to use them and probably will but I've literally got only 5k's. So using incubators to cover sub-optimal distances and still probably only get 5k's is just kinda meh for me

I hatched a magby today and couldn't be more disappointed. What am I supposed to do with it? evolve into another freaking Magmar?

Lol at the non stop bitching in this thread. Everybody thinks the game should center around them.

you have this backwards - you want to burn off the shortest-distance eggs in the free incubator, not the 10k. Unless you don't buy incubators then it doesn't make a difference

If it doesn't click right away, imagine having just (a) a free incubator, and (b) one charge remaining on another incubator. And have four eggs: 2k, 2k, 5k, 10k...

In that case you obv wanna put the 10km egg in the 1 use incubator so you can hatch all 4 by only walking 10km?

Yeah that's my fairly simple thinking even though I never deeply thought about it, just seemed like using the non-infinite incubators on the longer distance = best because you'll effectively cover more distance.

The easiest scenario is probably using 3 eggs : a 5k, another 5k and a 10k.

Put the two 5k's in the infinite incubator and the 10k in the "free" one and you hatch 20km worth of eggs for walking 10km. Do the opposite and you only hatch 15km for walking 10km. Or am i missing something?

Given my primary purpose is hatching eggs at this point, I'm not that disappointed. Turns my decision of whether or not I'm playing next weekend from maybe to **** yes. Gotta get and hatch those eggs to get the rest of the babies.

Of course I'm still working on 2 10k eggs from Wednesday (one is almost done) so I may be less enthusiastic if I manage to run hot and hatch what I need.

Kind of. Cost efficiency, distance, and pokemon availability are all big factors in how a given player should use incubators. In the second example you would waste an incubator getting the same production.

Incubators cost the same regardless of the distance egg used in them, in other words they don't penalize you for longer distance eggs. Free incubators do, because while you're occupying it with a 10k you may have been able to hatch 2-5 smaller eggs.

In practice I throw most of my 2ks in the freebie, and on very rare occasion maybe a 5k if most of my eggs are early in the incubation time, so it doesn't sit idle too long either.

if they show up as much as ghastly, meowth, and cubone did for Halloween I'll upgrade this event from a C to a B

For real. I've never seen a starter nest, it's been a huge grind getting enough for even two evolved forms for all of them. I'll gladly spend all day catching starters.

Of course I'm also glad to catch Santa Pikachu, because dawwwwwwww.

Yo, check the Silph Road global nest atlas. There is a very good chance that there are nests for all starters within 10 miles of you.

I am not that disappointed, but I probably wouldn't have saved all of these (for the possibility of 2x's candy/XP) had I but known (it was only like 10 days worth of egg grabs so not a huge deal).

Also, I am not totally convinced this is all there is to the event. I think that the gift boxes and the holiday code references and some of the vague language Niantic is using may foreshadow at least a few extra surprises.

Yeah, there is/was so much pressure on Niantic to deliver a nice holidays event. While this is i guess a nice event for some people (for me it does very little), it's still << double candies/xp so it's hard to believe that's all there is to it
