It's a terrible decision and will turn off a lot more casual players and probably won't make a dent in the cheating

To add, I bet there's correlation between "people willing to root a phone" and "people willing to spend money on a Pokémon game" since they both seem like nerdy things to do, so I bet this impacts their revenue as well

If this makes it harder to cheat there will be less cheating since they aren't by any means especially sophisticated but are certainly lazy.

But anyone dedicated enough to cheat will just use the Magisk systemless root work around and continue to cheat, while casual dumb rooters like me will quit

Lol what? I rooted my phone when I first got it a couple years ago. I've never cheated; I'm pissed because I've wasted a bunch of time with this game and now my two options are to unroot or to attempt some **** beyond my level of technical understanding. I sank $70 into this game $10 at a time which adds to the frustration

I'm level 25, and a runner, and I spend more time hatching eggs than I do catching with poke balls, just because it's something easy for me to do with little effort. Also because as I level up its not really fun to throw one ball at something and have it run away. That said I've hatched 19 eggs that were 10km eggs, and here is my distribution (I play in Jersey City, NJ):

1 Hitmonchan
1 Chansey
2 Scyther
1 Electabuzz
3 Magmar
1 Pinsir
2 Lapras
3 Eevee
1 Aerodactyl
1 Dratini

And 0 Hitmonlee, Jynx, Omanyte, Kabuto, and Snorlax. I have never seen Hitmonlee, Jynx, Porygon, or Snorlax. I have caught 2 Omanyte and 1 Kabuto and would gladly welcome them from a 10k egg to have a shot at their evolutions. I guess I am fortunate to have seen so many 10k eggs but it's brutal to generally travel 8 miles to register 10k and have it be something I already have, and just be waiting to luck box into something I need. I've grown to hate the 3 seconds or so of waiting to see what's going to come out of a 10k egg because when it's something that is not helpful I start questioning what I'm doing with my life.
