Hey, if you are an Android user, I worked up a guide to help with performance issues associated with Pokemon Go.
I use an ADB (Android Debug Bridge) trick to lower the resolution (this improves performance because you are using the GPU/CPU to render less pixels worth of info). Changing the resolution will make the display look wonky, so most users opt to change the DPI as well to adjust the icon sizes (I can't otherwise see a difference between the two on my 5.2" Nexus 5x display). This second step will sometimes break some app functionality, like Android Pay and some messangers, or make UI elements act funny, but they should make PoGo run better.
All of this is with NO root and is reversible with a few commands. This way, even if it makes stuff act funny, you can just quit doing it (or just use the guide for when you are going to PoGo/game and then reverse it when you are done).
