A new special event begins in Pokémon Go this week, and it’s all about the rock-type Pokémon. “Adventure Week,” as developer Niantic has dubbed the campaign, encourages players to get outdoors and start digging around for Omanyte, Kabuto, Aerodactyl and other uncommon, fossil-based monsters.

These Pokémon, along with the non-fossilized Onix and Sudowoodo, will be more common than usual throughout the week. The entire event runs from May 18 at 1 p.m. PT until May 25 at 1 p.m. PT, giving players the full seven days to fill out their rock-type collections.

PokéStops will dole out more items than usual to help out with this. As a bonus, buddy Pokémon will also need to travel a shorter distance to collect candy. To top it all off, all players who log in during Adventure Week will get a special item of clothing to commemorate the event: the Adventurer’s Hat.

4x buddy distance for a week is huge. I think I'm gonna choose Dratini as my buddy (74 candies left for a Dragonite)

Unless there are some Gen2 rock ones that I don't have, this won't be a particularly helpful event for me. Would be nice to maybe get a stronger Aerodactyl that the ~1500CP I have.

I won't complain about the 4x buddy candy. Could take a sizable chuck out of my tyrannitar. I've only caught 1 Lavitar and even the 50km I've walked with it have only gotten me to 16 candies.

Hopefully Larvitar spawns get boosted. Other than catching those (hopefully), I'm gonna grind that sweet, sweet Chansey buddy candy like there's no tomorrow.

I dont know what to put for buddy for this event...... i am lvl 33 highest pokemon is 299x. So i am low lvl for my area and my highest is lower than the lowest in a gym usually. I have been walking my 1 and only dratini i have found, im at about 20 candies now. I could do larvitar. I could do chancey (i have 1 chancey and 1 blissey neither good iv) or i could do pidgey for mass evolve candy for more xp.... Suggestions, logic, reasonings?

^Simply walk what's the most rare spawn for you. Dratini should be somewhat common 10K hatch nowadays so it might not be the best buddy. Also it remains to be seen if Larvitar spawns are increased. If yes, walking a one doesn't make much sense.

Oh I didn't realize Lavitar was a rock type. Probably make Totodile my buddy then. Nothing else seems better and I'm not interested in Dratini candy since I have a Dragonite.

Making totodile a buddy is a mistake imo. You're saving 2.25km per candy whereas you'd be saving 3.75km/candy if you put one of the rares. You can never have enough dragonite/tyranitair/blisseys imo but if the goal is strictly the pokedex and not battling then sure why not

Yeah I'm more focused on the pokedex. I'll probably keep the Lavitar as my buddy until I see a few spawn.

The walking bonus will probably be enough to get me out and trying to finish up my Larvitar evolution. Maybe head down to DC on Saturday before work and get some grind in.

I live in vegas, dratini is very rare... Im lvl 33 and only 700k from 34 and ive only ever seen 1, no dragonaire, no dragonite. snorlax is rare but i tossed the low lvl 1 i found. blissey/chancey is extremely useful as most gyms have 6 or 7 3k+ blisseys in them.

Completed my gen 1 Pokedex minus regionals, finally getting my Kabuto and kabutop. Leveled up my blissey some. Haven't seen any larvitar though. Seeing mostly geodudes, ryhorn, slugma, and omanytes.

Hatched a Larvitar yesterday, up to 95 candy. It's supposed to rain a ton this week but hopefully I can sneak in enough distance to finish that off with the walking bonus before the event runs out.

Caught a Larvitar yesterday, first I've ever seen in the wild. And finally evolved Kabutops. Should finally have a Dragonite by Thursday thanks to this event too.

So, does anyone play the gym game? I admittedly haven't played at all since last Halloween, but I'm still surprised that my highest level pokemon is often lower than the 10th spot pokemon in a stacked gym.

I live in a wasteland for pokemon go, so everything goes slower. I have spent the last two freaking months chasing magikarps and using one for a buddy. Finally evolve it to Gyarados today annnnnd moveset is Bite/Crunch.
