Wow this pokego thread is even bigger than the one in POG. I might start updating my progress logs on this thread.

But also, look for enemy gyms. They're much easier to take with 6 lower pokemon than 1v1ing your own gym

Is there a way to set your 6 Pokemon team to attack gyms? Sucks when the game decides to send 4 or 5 Fire Pokemon at a gym that's defended by multiple Water Pokemon.
Yes, click on them when it shows you your lineup.

When in battle, you can actually swap pokemon in and out as well for type advantages

Not sure if this has been covered yet ITT, but, when you take a gym over how does one cash in on the coins? I took one over last night but I didn't see anywhere on the screen that would allow me to claim coins.

After you take a gym (or even leave a defender at a friendly gym), you can tap on the pokeball icon at the bottom of the screen and go to the shop.

In the upper right corner, you will see a shield icon with a number indicating the number of gyms you are currently defending. If you tap on that, you can claim your bonus coins and dust. This only works once every 21 hours.

And also because of this, all gyms tend to balance to neutral, so if your 600 CP Pokémon aren't enough today, check back tomorrow cause most gyms will get cleared out several times throughout the day. Gyms held down by an army of 2000+ CP Pokémon could end up being replaced by a few 300 CP guys at any time.

Also someone mentioned earlier a great tip for powering up your own gyms. Use the lowest level Pokémon that can still win for the most gym prestige. I've been using a Pokémon that is just under the CP of the bottom guy but has a type advantage. Just kill one and quit for like 500 prestige points. Repeat as necessary. That also means it's good to have at least one low level Pokémon in your gym so others can power it up the same way.

It's the Puzzles and Games sub forum right below the Video Games one (this one).

That person was me. I have some more data too. I found a lvl 3 gym of my team, bottom Pokemon was a 1560~ arcanine. When I took my 852 vaporeon against it and beat it and only it, the gym gained ~920 prestige. When I took my 1339 vaporeon and won against only the arcanine, the gym gained ~520 prestige. So, a pokemon that was 700 below added 920, while one that was 220 below added 520. It's probably close to linear, with each CP the pokemon was below the one it was challenging adding another ~0.8 prestige when you win in this range.

you take the defending cp divided by your cp and multiply by 500 with a max of 1000

It seems to get it right for a lower CP pokemon, but the one instance it doesn't work was right here :

When I took my 560 sandslash and beat the first two, the gym went up by 1700! Lesson of the day, keep your weaker evolves that can be counters in training
It seems like using a noticeably stronger pokemon does create diminishing returns.

So glad I found a Golbat out in the wild today so I can ignore Zubats from now on. Little ****ers cost me so many wasted balls.

Still worth to catch high-cp Zubats imo, since the Zubat->Golbat evolution CP jump is huge

Mud shot is really damn good, probably just as good as water gun just a different type.

Also, I just reached level 20 and this is ****ing bull****. Had a 73 magikarp and 60 magikarp escape multiple times from great throws.

Sure, but I don't have to try to catch all those little ****ers and watch them fly up at the last minute any more.

My Golbat was the highest CP I've caught in the wild so far (700 something). But I'm still level 15.

can't stand those fkers.

park near my house has ridiculous amounts of Doduo, Rattata, and pokestops. got a late start on the game due to traveling when it was released. level 16 now and just got my first 1k+ cp.

watched this guy on twitch chucking perfect curveballs at everything today:
https://www.twitch.tv/castro_1021

inspired me to try them and I think my accuracy is somehow better with those than straight shots.

Yeah, I am horrible at straight shots. I think it's much easier to throw curveballs.
