Don't have high hopes after the founder's edition and early rx Vega leaks. Def on the Ryzen / Threadripper train tho.

Ditto.

Vega is basically a cluster**** that's released 3 months too early (in terms of driver readiness) and 3 months too late (in terms of competing with nVidia products)

Just need enough pressure on Nvida to push the price of some of their GPUs down like anything at all, as they don't seem to go on sale ever.

And a buddy of mine sent me a screen shot that intel is going to come out with more i9 i7 i5 but x299 cpus......wtf?

its going to be tough for anyone to push prices down when the prices are still inflated due to miners. cards are still OOS everywhere

How long until the mining-specific GPUs come out?

Interested mostly in RX Vega to see if it's a mining monster lol.

I don't think AMD is interested in mining-specific GPUs. An article was posted in one of the coin threads the other day with a few (somewhat ambiguous) quotes on that matter (and an illustration of how much demand there still remains): https://qz.com/1039809/amd-shares-ar...ards-to-mines/

Imo, a lot of the reasons for buying tons of GPUs to mine with are that they have decent resale value for their normal purpose should the mining market collapse. Mining-specific cards need to be mega-cheap to offset the additional risk of them having zero resale value in comparison. Which they probably won't be?

Stupid vega can't compete with the 1080ti.... Prolly not getting a price cut then.

And there's this weirdness with selling in bundles with games and expensive less than ideal monitors...

The very high power consumption might well mean it's undesirable for mining.

LMAO I thought ethereum was some rare metal used in GPU cards.

Alright dudes, its happening. Imma build a pc for the first time. Suggestions, articles, primers on doing this? FWIW, totally not going to spend more than like $500-700 total.

I got one of these and HTC Vive. Worked great with my X1 Carbon but clearly still some issues to sort out with MacBook... even in Bootcamp. EGPUs are not quite plug and play yet but they are getting there.

I'm going to use it as a docking station for my work laptop (currently X1 Carbon, but will be MacBook 15 when they finally make a version without touchbar).

Interesting. I've always been interested in the razor blade edge as it has a version of this, didn't realise there were generic versions.

Yeah, I was concerned about upgradeability with the Aorus because it's so small and I am afraid Aorus will discontinue the line and driver support.

But then I thought it's ~200-300 cheaper than Core+1070 or Akitio+1070 and that's enough to buy another enclosure in 3 years if I need to upgrade the EGPU enclosure.

Interesting. I contemplated the alienware version to pair with my old laptop a year or two ago. I never knew there were other brands of the egpu box out there.

Just in case anyone happens to run into same issue.

Once I uninstalled Duet (a program that lets you turn your iphones/ipads into another monitor), the EGPU was plug and play in bootcamp.

My computer was on the floor pretty close to my Ethernet port, so I had a short Ethernet cable to connect it to the Internet. Worked with zero problems for over a year.

Yesterday, I needed to move my computer a short distance (to on top of the desk). I needed to longer Ethernet cable, so I had to switch cables. Didn't work at all. I figured it was a bad cable and substituted a different one. It worked for about 10 minutes, then stopped working altogether. The two lights on the Ethernet port both blink, though.

How should I troubleshoot this? I have a laptop, but it doesn't have an Ethernet port. I can eventually get one of those USB Ethernet ports so I can see if I get a signal with the laptop. But other than that, I don't know how to determine if it's the in-wall cabling, the patch cable, or the Ethernet port.

I'm connected now by WiFi, but it's half the speed of my Ethernet connection.
