You should be able to find a good 256GB for $80-$90.

Most people only need 128GB, but performance is actually worse for smaller drives.

I keep my main games(gmod, CSGO) on my SSD to cut down on map load times.

That dell is way expensive for what you are getting. Unless you are getting a k and overclocking you just don't need anything over a i5 4440/4460. The performance increase just isn't there.

You can put a comparable build together for under $800 easily if you shop for parts.

If you want a prebuilt just watch slickdeals for a dell and then add a 750ti and SSD.

I caved and bought a PS4 and a new TV, and want to connect my PC to the TV for Steam Big Picture Mode as well as the PS4. The TV only has one HDMI port, so I think I need an HDMI splitter switch like those mentioned here. Anyone have any tips or recommendations on how best to do this? Like if I need to worry about getting a switcher that won't introduce extra input lag or audio issues, what brands to look at, etc. I see that from Steam Big Picture Mode you can specify which monitor to output to, but I'd like to not have to fiddle with manually switching which HDMI input the TV is getting, just default to the PC unless the PS4 turns on.

Thanks for all your feedback! I think you guys convinced me, I will be adding a 500GB SSD to both this and my laptop (and convert the laptop's internal HD to a portable). How painful is the process of moving an existing Windows installation over to SSD?

I'm thinking of buying two of these:

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-In...dp/B00OBRE5UE/

Is this an okay choice? I assume I also need some kind of holder/converter to fit this into a 3.5 inch HDD bay?

It's similar to moving an existing Windows installation to a new HDD.

except a lot slower

I have an issue with my new computer; when I play a game or have a graphically intensive website open, there is a light buzz in my headset. I have replaced my headset but it has not solved the problem. The buzz is constantly present but not always exactly the same tone.

Does anyone have a clue what this could be and how I could solve it? I suspect it has something to do with my GPU pulling a lot of electricity.

The 850 EVO is an excellent SSD. I haven't followed prices over the last few months so I can't comment on that but the drive itself is an excellent choice.

Did Dell give you the Windows install discs? If they did I would personally just reinstall on the SSD and not bother trying to move everything over.

Thanks! That's a good point. The computer hasn't arrived yet so I don't know if I have media - my guess is no - but I assume I can get this one way or another. This may be a bit of a pain on my laptop, but it seems like moving an existing windows installation as is may be quite a bit more painful than reinstalling everything.

I used to love battlefield 3 because there was only a very short countdown to the start of a new round after the map switched. So all the people with the game installed on an SSD would be in and playing for 45-60 seconds before the HHD people even loaded. This allowed you to capture 2 free points and start on a third before most of the other team was even in the game. Of course they went and changed this in BF4 and put in a long timer before the start of each match.

That's coil whine.

Unfortunately, a lot of GPUs just have it(mine does). Its not uncommon for GPUs to have coil whine, but sometimes its caused by PSU/mobo/GPU issues together.

I've just gotten used to mine and I cap my FPS while gaming to keep the whine to a minimum. If you are running @ 300 FPS in an intensive game its going to be a lot more noticeable than if you cap your FPS at whatever hertz your monitor is running(60/120/144).

If you have a dedicated sound card you could try that, but it didn't make a difference for me. If it really bothers you a USB sound card or other setup may fix it.

Not really an easy fix. You can try different parts. Also, make sure your cabling is away from your sound card and/or motherboard.

There also may be an improvement after a burn in period.

The GTX970/980 chipsets have notoriously high coil whine incidence.

Is this a good stock/ready-to-go gaming laptop for this price? Looking to play some GTA IV and some Black Ops/Ghosts.

That sucks . I am using and AMD R9 290. I am not that technical but I guess looking if my cables aren't close to my MB is easy, I will do that.

It does bother me, if it costs <50$ to fix it I will do it. What kind of USB sound card would you recommend? I have tried googling in Dutch but I am finding hardware to connect guitars too. The USB sound card would connect my headset via a USB to my motherboard I guess?

To the guy who asked about SSD installations from an existing HDD, I found mine very simple. I retrofit my home PC with an Intel 320 on Black Friday in 2013 and it came with directions to use Intel's migration software program. Was pretty seamless despite me worrying about it while it happened. Actually I probably am due for a fresh install of Windows on the SSD now that I have the spare HD with all my data.

Honestly, I have no idea if a USB sound card will fix your problem. It might or might not.

The coil whine on my video card is mostly gone after a couple months of use. If you just got the video card you could try exchanging it, but I'm pretty sure every R9 series card has coil whine. Some are just worse than others.

I'd suspect this issue resolves itself with some burn in.

Newegg has a 256gb crucial M500 for $65 if you use masterpass checkout.

Best deal on an SSD I've seen yet.

I have a quick question didn't really want to make a thread in the computer technical help forum.

I have a Imac 2010 27" I3 (boot camp with windows) and wanted to get a new computer (better for gaming), I wanted to know the specs of the actual monitor, I want another 2 27" monitors that are the same as the Imac or better as in specs.

So if any one could point me in the right direction.

Been trying to sell these for a while but when push come to shove I just can't do it for some reason, I like the monitors to much.
