Re: Path of Exile

Wow lame, their servers are getting crushed by a ddos. Their team tweeted about it not to long ago.

I guess some people are jealous that their release was super smooth.

Re: Path of Exile

I'm getting owned in Act 3 with my Witch, and I'm not even sure what I need to do to fix it. I question whether it's my gear or my passives, or maybe I just need to kite more.

Resistance rings are definitely a must and switching them out is almost mandatory when you run into a mob that launches fireballs at you.

One Pro-Tip that I realized last night. If you are using your spells or probably any attack and you actually click the mob you want to hit and they run away or warp away, as long as you keep the trigger down your character will stay connected.

But yeah, I'm around level 30 or 31, have a passive skill point to use and I'm basically frozen not knowing where to go next with it. Chaos Innoculation? Increasing Energy Shield Recovery? I have no idea.

I think I messed up my skill tree already -- put my first 3-4 skill points into flat +dex instead of the +% for bows (I plan to use bows). Is it actually necessary to pump +dex? Like right now my char has like 80 base dex and the items I'm finding only require ~20 and dex doesn't seem to increase damage directly (adds accuracy which I assume is like attack rating from D2). There are some +dex skills later in the tree that are mandatory to pick up the key skills near the outskirts of the tree so I figure those will probably be enough. I am skilling up to access the bottom right of the tree since those skills seem most optimal.
As far as i understand +main stat nodes are worst and u only need them so u can wear things. Other nodes are better for dmg/accuracy etc..

Re: Path of Exile

I start a character thinking, "yeah I'm just going to wing this." Then I have no idea. Then I think, "hmm maybe I should look at the forums and see what people are doing." Then I think, "yeah I should probably do that."

Honestly, as much as it sucks rerunning the game getting started, leveling up isn't that much of a grind. I just keep getting to Act 3 Normal and want to see what is beyond that, but I'm having a lot of fun with the variability of builds and trying new things.

Trying to log in right now and I was in a 9000 person queue. It's been about 10minutes and it's down to around 3000.

Re: Path of Exile

I like playing with 4 characters and just get them to progress through the game at the same pace... They can then intertrade items and stuff.

If you have gear, you can get through the first 2 acts super super quick just by partying and asking for tp's

I made a party earlier to kill oak, some level 42 guy joined and thought I'd be an idiot...

Re: Path of Exile

I think the game is bugged. I don't know. 2 times now I've joined groups running to kill Piety and when we get there it says "Instance is Full" and then we get in and the entire place is cleaned out.

So much lag tonight. Framerate spikes. Pretty unplayable at times. Numerous disconnects.

Re: Path of Exile

OMG. Finally make it to Piety, my framerate is spiking so bad, I can barely move and then it crashes.

WTF. This is getting irritating now.

I think you want to AVOID the pure +stats nodes. Those are just waypoints or roads essentially. They are there to slow you down as you try to reach the key nodes that define your character build.

Not that there is anything wrong with having more stats, but +10 is not worth a passive skill point.

Yeah I did. I thought it was sorta fixed with the queue.

Annnnnd another crash. Had Piety down to half way and the game just goes back to the login screen.

I just want to smash my face through my monitor right now. hahahaha

Probably won't get to play again until next weekend. Maybe it'll be fixed by then.

Playing a Templar spamming spells after having to restart since the duelist seemed boring to me.

40HP = ~10% more health
40MP = ~20% more mana

Think long run resist helps more later in game but 40HP probably helps out more now since physical isn't reduced by all resist from what i can tell.

Took me a while to get that..

Just lost my lightning witch due to desync, was a very fun build to play might reroll her...

Arc+spark+ lightning vulnerable curse+ lightning warp. Was fun to micro and looked badass with the teleporting.

Heavy focus on dps nodes... she was powerful BUt I suspect she would get owned late game.

Want to try a flicker strike build

Well I'm running really good on 'rollbacks' my lowly 17 HC shadow still alive though I think he's eaten two deaths. I'm pretty terrible at the skill tree I think.

Re: Path of Exile

I can't believe how hard this game is haha. I love it though, reminds me so much of D2 but harder.

I'm 100% convinced now that even a currency based AH ruins the game. Right now I'm getting owned so hard in A2 cruel HC. My DPS is crap and my itemization seems bad but I haven't been getting too many good items, got a few though. I'm playing an aura/totem/melee templar with a 2 handed mace at the moment at lvl 46.

With an AH it would be so easy to just goto it and then buy items that are so good that you basically trivialize every item drop until you start feeling weak again and repeat the process. Now you actually have to play the game and get stronger rather than pay gold or $ to progress, and who would have known... it's actually fun.

Re: Path of Exile

Well it's one's choice to spend money or not to change their gameplay experience. It's up to the person to decide what they want to do. However, if you make it available, most people will use it and complain as a result because it's too easy a progression system.

I think the idea that HC chars become SC is pretty nice. I don't enjoy SC as much, but I wouldn't mind having the character to play if I screw up and bite the dust in HC (wish D3 had that feature).

I think the best choice depends on your character, and generally +1 passive point seems to be the easiest and most foolproof decision.

The +40 health can be very good depending on how you build your character (a lot of +hp % nodes would make this more efficient than 1 skill point).

I'm going to get the 4% cast speed reward when I play my witch on next difficulty.

I'm at the end of normal on my duelist right now. Just got the big key last night.

I also wanted to make HC characters with my friends, knowing that they would only get relegated to standard ladder if they died. But then we realized that just 1 of us dying would force the rest to join him since we only play together right now. My friend actually did die during late act 1 somehow. And I managed to die in act 3 a few times after my character started to actually take damage.

Re: Path of Exile

Yeah but I mean the gold AH too, not just $.

As soon as things get hard people will spend their gold to buy items. Repeat this every 5-10 levels and you can cruise your way to the level cap or the "end game".

I like how in PoE you find useful stuff well before the end game and that items are quite useful for a long time if they get good rolls. My templar is still using a level 18 2h mace and I'm level 46. Something like that would never happen in D3.

Re: Path of Exile

If anyone wants gear, good idea is to put loads of rarity increase % on your best character and have him farm bosses just ahead of other character. Vaal, kreityn even gneiss are all good spots. Brutus in act 1 aswell...

I have a shadow who is pretty much a treasure hunter, has poison arrow, fire trap and dual strike, he has +116% rarity. Poison arrow makes bosses so easy.

I think this game is pretty hard to just keep storming through with one character as you out level your gear kinda of quick and comfort zone dissapears unless you are part of a good team.

It should be pretty easy to get better than level 18 item at 46, even a blue one.

This game owns. My biggest gripe is the timer for loot is too short in parties.

Started a templar today but only up to level 6. I played a marauder in one of the original beta weekends and the game has come a long way. I tried to somewhat plan out my path but the skill tree is too intimidating. I'm sure I'll respec at level 30 or so once I figure out wtf I'm doing

I think so, but his general point is right. You do often end up using some item you found at a low level for a long time. This is kind of a nice thing, since it makes your gear feel more a part of your character early on, rather than only getting this feeling when you're grinding out the last act of the highest difficulty (diablo 3, looking at you).

edit: I'm lvl 35 and I'm still using multiple lvl 8 gear (belt, rings, ammy).
