Thanks, I think I have a Chromatic orb in my stash but I'll save it for when I have items worth using it on.

Seriously everyone needs to be playing this game, I'm getting obsessed with it, the more you play the more it draws you in with its complexity.

A guy on reddit made an excellent "essay" about poe & defense mechanics:

Recommend this to anyone who likes to theorycraft.

Idk about that. I got super bored by level 55 having not found one item worth a damn and still using crappy low level blue gear in quite a few slots. RNG is a cruel bitch.

Make your own gear?
I just made a new dagger for my FP templar: 80% global crit, 30% spell dmg, 40% spell crit and 20mana.
Basically everything i need for the cost of 1 transmute and 5 alts.

cant wear it yet tho as its lvl 47req and im 46 :<.

crafted this from scratch about a week ago. Still using it atm, even though I probably could have upgraded or at least exalted it by now.

Bought these gloves for super cheap (1.5 chaos @ Hardcore) and it feels like they should be really good. I guess they'd need damage stats to be really godly?

Either way, I was really hurting for resists, my gloves were my worst piece and I was just about to hit 47 when I got them - so I was happy!

Pretty nice armour. Definitely worth an exalted.

Anyone know how currency drops work? How do I find an exalted?

grrr, just had the worst rubber banding in the weaver cave (flicker strike + my shadow = bad times). Probably should have been able to survive, but my first instinct was to get out of the situation instead of just blades for my life. Things appear fine until you get pulled back in and die. Oh Hardcore how I love to hate you.

I need +life on it, and seems like it can still roll +life. I think it has 2 prefixes and 3 suffixes right now, but I don't craft often so it's something I need to double check before exalting.

Exalts drop very, very rarely. But they also drop at any level in any area, and that's why the economy has so many. I guess newer players just get sharked for theirs.

Yeah I'm not sure either. It is definitely an admirably-made game with lots of good ideas, challenge, and complexity. But at the end of the day it's just a grinder. The endgame players are running maps over and over, all day long, hoping to get some XP gains, currency, and the very rare item upgrade. And there's a challenge to what they're doing, but that challenge comes in the form of a .01% chance of dying, mostly if they do something extremely stupid, have a disconnect, or very rarely, actually get outplayed by the AI mobs. I don't know how they do it. Their dedication to a mostly pointless grind is not shared by this gamer. I'll play PoE for a bit longer, and then sporadically in the future, but soon enough I'll go back to a game like Dota where every match you play is "performance based" above all else.

I'd like to see a game like this made that has a format similar to the text-based Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup. So a mouse-based, graphical, permadeath ARPG where 99% of the time you don't finish the game, but 1% of the time you do, and all the gear, mobs, bosses, and dungeon branches you encounter are randomly generated. Where a completed game takes 5-30 hours (depending on how good you are, and how fully you complete the game; for example in DC:SS you can collect between 3-15 orbs before you decide to finish) and many times you die within the first hour, and quickly load up another attempt.

I suspect a big reason no game like that exists is because its not economically viable when compared to the "digital crack" approach of MMOs and ARPGs.

Well, this is an rpg. I don't know what you're expecting from a multiplayer rpg. It's just not your genre of gaming I think. I'm guessing you never played diablo 1 or 2 very long either? If at all?

There is also pvp though, and they will start introducing different leagues soon (hardcore cutthroat sounds pretty good).

No, I never played either one very much. I don't think I knew about Hardcore mode when I played D2 at release. Or at least it didn't jump off the page as a viable option like it does nowadays. The hardcore mode is what keeps me interested - I can play for like 90 minutes a night, make a little progress, and feel happy to still be a living participant in the HC world.

I agree that hardcore cutthroat sounds pretty good - if you put a bunch of time into it, or at least put time into organizing a group. GGG also does a good job using the races as an alternate method of competing. You're right, it's not my genre. I stumbled into it and ended up having fun though.

wish people would stop using poeex, it's making it so hard for me to trade when every idiot argues about ratios.

Seriously, 1 guy wanted to value chaos @ some stupid poeex rate, so I gave him regrets instead and that made him happy. I'm just baffled.

What is everyone's character or account names? Do you add friends via character names or what? We need to get a 2+2 group going.

I have a level 14 Ranger named Zimijo. Feel free to add me. If I'm on it's USUALLY 9-midnight EST. Just solo'd Brutus and came within a ****hair of dying. Came back later and killed him with my brother and he was infinitely easier with the two of us.

I'm trying to take a balanced approach to armor/evasion/shield instead of going really high in one of them. Good idea? Bad idea?

I joined a group the other night that had 3-4 (marauders?) in it. It seemed like they were unstoppable. I was in the back firing 2/3 arrows to kill a single skeleton while they were running right up to huge groups and destroying them in seconds with some swinging attack. Didn't seem very balanced to me. What's their downside? When I get home I'll upload some pictures of my gear.

I went down in my passive skill tree and snagged Master Fletcher and all the bow damage/crit/accuracy bonues, now I'm working over towards Deadeye. I'm going to have the most accurate shots in the game. It better end up being useful.

My firetrap + posion arrow + dual strike + rejuv totem + whirling blades + grace shadow is having a hard time in merciless. I've had to reduce his rarity to just 79% in order to get almost maxed resists. I'm thinking he is going to have to lose more in order to progress. He has like 2900 life and 400 ES but armour is very poor. If I have 31% block and 30% to evade then only 1/3 of attacks will hit me right? I do have a pretty good shield. Maybe should double strike with a shield instead of dual striking.

Tried to solo cruel piety with him also but had to leave : /

I tried making a poison arrow totem for him but apparently poison arrow won't work.

Think he has almost hit the wall.... It seems I should try to get a bunch of quality gems and level a new character.

I have a kaoms prophecy which will increase my melee dps once I get to level 58 but whirling blades really is a life saver alot of the time.

don't worry, those maras are totally ****ed later. They were using sweep with a 2h weapon probably. There is a mara that asks to join my maps occasionally, and then has to quit after a couple deaths.

On the skill tree, there is actually a node called resolute technique that removes the need for accuracy, it gives you 100% chance to hit with atttacks. The drawback is that your crit chance is reduced to 0. There is also an end-game unique bow called lioneye's glare that removes miss chance on attacks.

I also tried poison arrow totem before, it doesn't work and I don't know why exactly.

Is high quality Life Leech gem worth anything on HC?

As far i understand ull need some sick sick dmg to get capped as most ppl have huge healthpools.

Yes, it's definitely worth something. You might be able to get a GCP for it. It's core for builds like EK Shadow because that Life Leech might save their life when they spam into reflect physical damage mobs.

* - on second thought you should be able to get more than one GCP; not really sure how much people pay per GCP required, but I'd imagine a 10% Life Leech would go for quite alot.
