Same goes for me as for Gospy, played it a long long time ago, but willing to try it again now.

The skilltree seems so overwhelming though. How do I figure out what's good without theorycrafting for hours while staring at the tree?

The skill tree definitely lends itself to careful theory-crafting. Either that, or be prepared to start over a few times when you have new build ideas. It is more like Diablo 1/Diablo 2 (pre-patch) in that regard. New build = new character. No practical way to fully re-spec.

That's completely fine, it's one of the things that really drew me to D1/2 over 3, but sadly I don't have the time anymore to pour into several characters to fully skill them up, so what I'm basically asking I guess is if there is a build compendium.

I'm looking for something that won't gimp me, but aren't willing to invest the time to get the perfect theorycrafting results, I'm willing to give up that small edge at the top for a smaller time investment, as long as my build still works.

Your first builds will almost always fail. Stick to non-hybrid builds first, take a look at some standard builds that are found in the forums and on reddit. In general always pick up as much life and resistance nodes as possible on your way through the tree. As someone said before do NOT touch the weapon specific nodes as they limit you heavily during leveling. As soon as you get more experienced with the game and comfortable with the skill tree you will start building your own setups, and this is where the fun begins...

Now question if I should respec those 4 points that I put in swords or not, I'm okay-ish now but things will get difficult probably really soon (I'm near brutus cruel)

this is current build:

I messed up my ranger build by picking up +stats instead of % damage (just assumed main stat would add damage) but I'm leaving it for now. I plan to respec when I die and I'll probably go glass cannon and avoid all the life/resistance stuff =P.

If you are serious about HC then I would probably min/max and respec but if you plan to keep playing it even if you die then I'd just wait until you've thoroughly planned out a build.

I feel complimented that you thought that I haven't died yet.

Respecs are not limited, and if you're planning things out well enough you shouldn't even need to use all the points you get from quest rewards. So I would refund those 4 you put into the sword nodes, especially since the razor's edge circle is much worse than the blademaster circle that is also next to your path.

Also, if you're going to use a shield, you should just head down the 1h path at the start, rather than picking up those 3 +10 str nodes. And I see no reason to not pick up unwavering stance if you are getting iron reflexes anyways.

Here is my rather strange, but almost entirely original (I modified it recently after seeing the ranger bm build) dual wield build.

Anyone have advice on which bandit reward to take on cruel? I can't decide between 4% ias and 12% physical damage. I already have +25% physical damage on my unique belt but more IAS makes it easier to kite. :|

I went with a support/tank Templar and reached 40 after 2 days of grinding. Decided to roll a Marauder since I found the templar build being quite boring and ends up im doing almost the same build just slightly better.

How good are 2H weapons in the game? Isn't it inferior to shield or 2 1-hers same reason diablo 3 was at the start? Less sockets = less useful.

Also found out people like to max out lvl at 28 to pvp LOL

I regret going 1h build, 2h weapons can have 6 sockets vs 3 from 1h and 3 from shield.

Does it matter in which equipment you put the skills in? I found a 4-link-green glove for my ranger, my bow only got 3-linked-greens. So I would love to combine my split arrow with 3 support gems in the glove. Is there any difference to having the same combination in any other part of the armor/weapon?

Picking up Point Blank for my LS Duelist seems excellent, amirite?

also what do you think about arrow dodging? I think I'm good against melee targets since I can lifesteal from them but against ranged it takes time for me to get to them so I'm thinking maybe it would a good choice.

There is no difference, except some items can have modifiers that affect the gems that they hold. (example: "+1 to the level of Minion Gems in this item")

Just found a meginords girdle, it is pretty sick item.

Posted the link in trade and omfg so many offers.

I really cannot lose balfaz now. He has all +rarity items aswell so he is kind of weak. This kind of thing makes hardcore intense.

Well, that was incredibly frustrating. Just died on Vaal again in HC. Activated Vaal, then I just couldn't move as clicking did nothing for me.

Strange thing was that my left click got changed from dual strike to bear trap (seemingly) based on what I re-started SC with. Of course I did the fight successfully in SC for practice, so the build wasn't the issue. I changed my boots, which shouldn't have affect DS as it was on my helm. Another lesson learned, just sort of expensive way to learn it.

I am absolutely in love with this game but in act 3 I (and many others apparently) keep getting a stupid error that crashes the game between loading areas, this makes it pretty much unplayable for me until they fix this

It matters if you switch weapons. E.g If I ahve poison arrow in my bow and dual strike in my weapons, then when I press 'X' right click will interchange poison arrow and dual strike. However if you have one of these skills not in the weapon then you cannot have both skills under the same key i.e right click in my example.

These is actually enough for me to not use a 4l gloves over my 3l bow.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I got silverbranch- when used with poison arrow and multiple projectiles it is really powerful. My character Balfaz rarity farmer uses firetrap and poison arrow in one place like a choke point and anything going through this choke just dies or is immediately cut down. I need more damn rarity though, I can't risk using wondertrap with this build but I realize now that a sick rarity farm build would be to go pure energy shield and use wondertrap.

I've had that can't-move bug so many times, I can fix it by using leap for some reason.

Had this issue for a while too.. It was crashing every time I got into the same area, for about 3 different areas throughout act 3. I'm in act 1 now so it's fine I guess.. lol

I have a backup ranged setup on my duelist as well, but it doesn't work well at all. My dps on it is just pathetic. I run poison arrow with some supports as well as ranged attack totem with lightning arrow, and one or the other has iron grip on it. But the damage from either is so low. I wanted to run ranged attack totem with poison arrow but it doesn't work for some reason (bug I guess).

Anyone try making a summoner character? Pick up the +minion talents and then maybe get the top left special that makes your minions explode when low hp. Not sure what items would make most sense though since I haven't noticed any items that add stats to minions without talents.

summoner sounds fun, I will focus on single char for now though.

is it worth anything?

Finally home after being out of town for 3 days. Time to piss away all of my free time.

A reroll is probably in order after looking at a few builds while I was gone.
