If you're following a guide and they recommend a unique that you wan't to buy on poe. trade, should you always get it with full links or should you buy it cheaper and try to add slots/links yourself?

For 6 link stuff I normally buy it linked unless I've a ton of Fusings.

Something to look out for is if your item has incompatible stats with the colors you want, like high str and dex and you need blue slots, you're probably better off looking for something that matches what you need. Sometimes you'll be looking at around 1k+ chromes for the right 4L colors, and you might be able to find something a lot cheaper.

For 6L items I've mostly crafted myself since I have a ton of jewelers, fusings and chromes and didn't want to bother selling them off, but for example when I 6L'd my Reach of the Council, there were 6Ls starting at around 10ex and I think the price for just 1500 fusings was more than that, so I would probably have been better off selling my Reach and just buying one of those (though I think I ended up only using ~100 each of jewelers and fusings ). If you're penny pinching, you'll just have to do the research and math on any individual item, though with a quick search a while back I didn't find much info for crafting chances on 4L items, just 6L, other than the Vorici Calculator for chromatic chances. And there's always the chance you hit some bad luck and end up using like 3k+ fusings to 6L and wishing you'd just used the workbench.

as a base rule its almost never worth crafting your stuff yourself, unlike a lot of other games

Thanks for the info guys.

I'm starting to hit a wall. I've followed this guide for a while and am at level 63:
https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1345914

I bought a deaths harp (2 unlinked sockets) at level 32 then thethethe very generously donated me a tabula, maligaro's virtuosity, goldrim, drillneck and an overflowing chalice. This has carried me pretty easily through cruel and I'm now at merc act 3.

I started occasionally dying to bosses at around cruel 4 and breaches gradually became impossible for me to clear since I would die any time I got the slightest lag spike. So I just stopped triggering breaches and got better at dodging in boss fights and soldiered on.

Once I hit Merc my res tanked to the ground. I'm currently sitting at 8, 75(76), 24, -60 for fire, cold, lightning, chaos. Breaches are impossible, and now when I face Piety in merc3 crematorium she takes 90% of my health in one hit with very little chance for me to juke so I noped the fk out of that one and realized I need to upgrade my gear.

I have about 20ish chaos worth of currency (maybe more if you figure in everything). Should I just go on poe and start filling in the gaps for my resistances right now, or should I craft something self found and keep saving up for the end game build (lightining coil, rats nest, 6L harbinger bow).

Was this char maybe too ambitous gear wise given how low my play volume is? I guess breach league is ending soon so maybe I should just put this character on hold, start a new, more budget friendly char (warchief life build?), then come back to this one when I have the currency for the big stuff?

Btw, I'm not asking for more handouts, just advice. I really appreciate thethethe for his gifts but I'd prefer building for myself from now on. It will be more rewarding in the long run I think, unless I give up on the game first :P

Bonus question:
How long should I keep using the overflowing chalice? Adding 40% damage seems too good to pass up but I never see any streamers using one. I'm also using a resistance boost flask but it feels very crutchy. Is the armour or 20% reduced damage maybe better?

Maxing the resists is the priority and a relatively easy thing to do when you hit merciless, you'll see a MASSIVE difference when you do so. I'm not blaming you for overlooking and it might seem hard but when you do that you'll see how easy it is actually, especially given existence of sites like poe.xyz.is

Yeah, I knew that I should be maxing my res but I was progressing just fine, except for the breaches, so I decided to wait for the first bossfight that I couldn't comfortably finish. I think if I didn't use wifi to play with regular lagspikes I might even clear the breaches with good mechanics.

So given my gear:
  • deaths harp (2S)
  • tabula
  • maligaro's virtuosity(4L)
  • goldrim(4L)
  • selffound rare boots(4L)
  • moku's embrace
  • selffound rare ring and amulet
...how would you go about maxing the resists? What can I ditch at this point?

you have too many uniques for my taste but change the rare items for res (even if you have to ditch everything else). If you can ditch deaths harp and have you build work with a rapier then you could use aurumvorax but I suppose it's out of the question (I don't remember your build sorry and in hurry so can't look it up)

you can easily get a ring with the resists you need

for example there's a breach ring with 76 life and total: +43% to Fire Resistance
total: +36% to Cold Resistance for 5 jewellers orbs

i misread your thing, i think you need lightning res, but it's still cheap.

Not knowing your build and also not caring - I would ditch any unique item that is not build enabling. If you have a damage conversion item, but your build doesn't need it, dump it.

The less uniques generally means more resist or health/damage.

I would start phasing out uniques and get items(if life based) with no less than 60+ hp and combined I would say low 60 to all elemental resistances. (like gloves 40 to fire and 25+ to lightning. etc) Or you can look for tri-res items with minimal 90 res.

Same applies with ES builds, but high ES instead of life.

And taking a quick look at his items in the build, I'm right. You don't need a lightning coil or rat's nest though. Also 2.2 seems old, I didn't notice if he edited it for the new patch.

Anyone else playing SSF HC this league? I'm pretty sure at least for the first week that's what I'll be doing. Doing SRS into Animate Weapon since I've played that for the past few leagues. Though I gotta feeling I'll be SRS for a long time.

I have no idea what im gonna do and in what mode yet.

My issue is I've basically done the content last league and there's not really any new content before 3.0.

I guess either "get rich" and get mirrors for standard, that ill probably never use, or play a more challenging mode, or play casually a fun but probably not very strong build.

Have you done any custom builds? Seems like there're so many options to explore besides whatever one of the top streamers is doing at the moment, and non meta gear is usually dirt cheap.

yeah I made my own build last season, pathfinder with kaom's heart and full ele conversion.

Tornado shot 90% of the time and switch to barrage for T15+ bosses.

Very similar to the signal fire build thing that inspired me, except he goes CI and uses both tornado shot and barrage (or lightning arrow and barrage) instead of kaom and life.

With the tons of respec-ed uniques they've done, I'm sure I'll be giving a few wacky builds a go at some point.

I was doing a king of the forest build that swapped in tornado shot for ele reflect maps over lightning arrow and barrage for single target, but the tooltips and the wiki are pretty sparse on information. The tooltip for both says deals % of base attack damage, what goes in to that calculation? Do they convert your elemental damage to physical?

Barrage also pissed me off, I didn't find it very useful unless I could plant myself near the boss and unload with flasks, but there're a lot of situations where that didn't work well esp if they move a lot where aiming it is nearly impossible, so I'd end up just hanging nearly off screen spamming LA.

Also how long does it take for them to migrate league characters over to standard/hc? I want to play but have no money and lowbie characters on standard league

I did my first mtx, the legacy supporter pack. $30 for a weapon effect, a cloak and 250 points. I was going to buy 200 points anyway to get stash tabs.

Then I bought the currency, essence and divination tabs. Dear god, I almost came when I transferred all my stuff into those nice orderly boxes (I'm pretty aspie when it comes to organization). Def worth the money. If history is any indicator then this won't be the last time I spend money on this game. For ftp games the first purchase is like a gateway drug, after that it's all a blur.

Yeah I'm more than happy to throw money at them for stuff like div and essence tabs, as well as premium tabs for easier poetrade. Quality of life is so much better.

Yeah I also voluntarily spent about 100$ so far on PoE to reward them for 800+ hours of fun that I got out of it. If I come back in 3.0 for good I might consider doing that again.
