Well, had my first 40 kill game, and my first 30 kill streak, both as soldier 76. I'm officially addicted.

I seem only able to play Roadhog at a decent level

If you can get a decent percentage of hooks in, he's really strong

Yeah I'm the same with roadhog/pudge, his heal is also a reason I like playing him. Cant aim with soldier 76, sniper girl, wild west dude, and the blink everywhere girl. Seems the demoman grenade spam guy is also an option for me, he seems especially good on defense for payload.

I've always liked hitscan classes. I only don't go Tracer because I don't know the maps well enough really.

Pharah or Reinhardt are good choices if you don't like hitscan - the former as you can do a ton of damage without needing hitscan, the latter as you absorb so much damage. The key to the former is knowing when to fly, the key to the latter is knowing when to go for pins, and remembering to fire your long range slow weapon.

I generally get between 50-70% in a match

That was the only hero I could stand playing for more than 1 round. It's the only one that didn't feel like a completely gimmicky pile of guano. I don't think it's a coincidence that they use him for the tutorial.

Tracer is easily the most OP, however. It honestly felt like cheating. You're immortal at the cost of having lowish damage output. But it doesn't matter if it takes you 2 or 3 clips to kill someone, because unless you die to one of the many 1-shot mechanics in the game (also stupid) you are simply unkillable.

Yep.

This game wants so badly to be the spiritual successor to original TF2, but it's just so.... meh.

4/10.

My kids might like it, but I'm not going to be dropping 40 bucks on accounts for them. I'd be a buyer at $10-15 with assurances that I won't be expected to buy new game content down the line. Limit micro transactions to pure cosmetics.

Tracer is definitely the strongest hero in the right hands, but she's hardly immortal. It's a fast paced game. I think she works but needs to do even less damage or have even less health perhaps.

One shot kills are fine. This is a game you're meant to die in. You can avoid a lot of them though, and they come with a price. For example, there're only a few places that snipers can stand, so they're often easy to avoid and easy to kill. Junkrat's rip-tire has big sound cues, though not every hero can then kill it in time. Every hero has a hard counter, whether it's another hero or a way of attacking them.

Soldier 76 is perhaps the only one without a hard counter, but you die to the long range heroes and you die to the short range heroes. I like him because all I really have is old muscle memory hitscan aim from literally 15 years ago in QW & early RTCW. My map knowledge isn't great yet, but I'm starting to find good places to be and good ways to play some of them.

If the game was pure chance then it'd be impossible to have 30 kill streaks or whatever.

can someone define hitscan for me?

Shots go where you put the mouse. Though it's not quite hitscan, as the longer you hold the button down, the less accurate the shots become, so at long range you have to fire in groups of three.

Isn't that what guns do? Put bullets where you aim? Why is that called Hitscan? sry I'm out of the modern FPS loop.

Some weapons have a travel time. Some weapons don't fire in a straight line. Some weapons fire if you point in the vague direction. Some weapons can only be fired once. Some weapons are melee only. Some weapons auto fire.

The definition of hitscan is when damage is applied instantly at the downrange collision location. In the most vague sense, the only two types of FPS weaponry are hitscan vs projectile.

In Call of Duty, for isntance, you can fire a rifle at a UAV way the **** up in the sky and you'll get hit markers instantaneously upon clicking. In a game like Battlefield, if you fire a sniper at someone 1000 yards away, not only is there going to be a significant delay in contact due to bullet travel time, but there's also bullet drop to account for. Hitscan weapons can be inaccurate, but don't have any actual bullet drop or delay to account for.

You get access to all the characters/maps/game modes during the open beta. So it's basically a free trial of the game for the next few days. Give it a try!

Just played for the first time. I had a lot of fun. I'm not particularly good, but it seemed easy enough to jump into and get a couple kills.

Don't know if I'll buy it, as I just don't have the time to play, but so far, so good. Hope it doesn't get crazy competitive, but rather is more of a fun, casual shooter like TF2.

Mostly played with Junkrat because it was easy to just hop into a game and spam his grenades while I figured out what I was doing. Tried the grim reaper-looking guy, too, and had a blast.

Sounds interesting, might check it out if I have time this weekend even though I don't see myself getting and playing this long term. Reading the thread on Slickdeals and people are raving about it, which is rare. Gotta be better than the Doom beta.

I think its pretty fun. Easy to pick up and get into but with each game you play and hero you try the game becomes more enjoyable.

I love how there is no radar/minimap at all.
Objectives really force teamwork and camping for kill streaks/high kdr isn't winning strategy.
Each role has it's place. Generally you need a well balanced team which makes the combat pretty interesting. It's not just 3 snipers and 2 tracers on each team.

If anyone wants to party up add me on PSN, same name as on here, might be on this weekend. Not sure I have anyway of chatting but I'll at least go for objectives.
