They check your level by hitting P. From there, you can check the rank and top 5 heroes of everyone.

Basically, you should just ignore them. Everyone starts somehwere. Most players give you the benefit of the doubt, but some will be salty. Not much you can do about that.

Quick play and competitive both have their place. The biggest problem with QP is that people aren't necessarily trying to win. They might just be practicing. In those cases, the hero composition might not be ideal and they might not be good at a hero (if they are practicing a new hero). But it's a lot less toxic than competitive. Some people just take competitive way too seriously, which I don't understand.
Hah. According to my email I bought it may 20th 2016. It sure feels longer Overwatch (New Blizzard Franchise - FPS )

I flex a lot and I'm very skeptical of the claims that it hurts SR. I have a spreadsheet recording my own performance over the last few months and covering over a thousand games that suggests otherwise.

To my knowledge, the only way SR is currently broken is that Mercy, Sombra, and Orisa tend to gain an undue amount/lose a low amount of SR relative to other heroes.

On a pretty unrelated note, SR decay outside of top 500 or even anything below 4kSR is bogus. It's made a lot of my friends stop playing the game. Just totally unnecessary to apply to diamond/masters players.

Ya I'm only playing a little bit at the moment and my two accounts keep decaying to 3k. It seems super unnecessary, but at the end of the day, doesn't actually change my MMR. I win ~100 points, and lose about 5.

My friends and I haven't been playing much just because there are so many trash teammates one tricking. > 70% of my matches have had at least one spot occupied by a muted Hanzo/Torb/Symm/Junkrat or something that wouldn't switch or communicate. It's really not fun to have to play around crappy picks. We've had so few games that have had a reasonably non toxic/coherent team... just becomes tiresome.

edit: It's always existed to some degree, but I think it has gotten worse. Seems like the average player used to care more, which I'm sure is due to a stale meta, and just the game aging.

I do still really wish I could ban 2CP maps. That alone would get me to stomach more toxic teams.

I'm pretty sure Sombra and Mercy get huge SR gains for large EMPs and large rezzes.

This thread has been dead a while. Thought I'd mention a tip I saw regarding loot boxes. Allegedly, the loot box patch goes live with the Doomfist patch on Thursday. The loot box patch drastically reduces the number of duplicates you receive.

So it may be in your best interest to not get your 3 arcade packs until the patch goes live. If you're an avid player, you're probably not going to change your frequency of play. But not playing arcade until Thursday (or just getting 2 arcade wins and then sitting on the wins) is an easy way to maximize your loot boxes.

Spot on.

The next PTR will have two Roadhog buffs. Your suggestion of moving while healing and a 50% reduction to damage taken while healing.

Damn I didn't think of this! I just wanted to get my 3 loots because I'm moving this weekend and didn't think I'd have the time to get the wins.

I'm also holding out on arcade in case the Summer Games promo goes live on Thursday, as well.

Opening a loot box that isn't at least 3 duplicates seems so odd.

I opened one loot box and got 4 non dupes. For a minute I felt like grinding again.

Unfortunately that and Doomfist are not enough. Will wait til Summer Games 2.0.

I defended blizzard for a while in terms of their content updates, and balance changes... but good god this game has gotten boring/bad lately. There are so many bad design choices that they seem uninterested in tweaking. Dva is the worst design in this whole game. Her right click legit removes skill from the game for like 10 seconds, and she can fly away while strafing like an ******* when her health gets slightly low.

Their nerf to roadhog functionally buffed Winston soooo much, and the lack of value in shield tanks lately makes so many DPS heroes really mediocre most of the time.

Also, I don't know if people are just super bored with the game, but every game I'm in lately has like 4 non communicative/disinterested DPS mains/1 tricks that have no interest in playing. I'm sure part of it is the meta, and part is just the game being out for a while... but god. This, plus adding another 2CP map with no ability to not queue certain maps mean I'm playing 2CP way more often than is fun. It's awful.

It's sad because when I do get a fun game, it's so satisfying. The shooting mechanics/game play (on non 2cp maps) are really hard to beat... but ugh. I'm still gonna play it, but hard to justify a ton of time over other games I'm enjoying a lot more at the moment.

Doomfist is fun as hell to play. I'm terrible with him and he looks like he could be the most difficult character to get good with, but he's just a blast.

Decided playing arcade for the first time since buying the game on pre-sale. Really really fun and a lot less toxic so far.

Doomfist and the Reaper buff, once they get worked out, should theoretically counter Winston all the way back to unplayable, which will only leave DVa as a dive tank.

Pretty much me. Although the reason for me is getting back into Diablo. Though, once I finally clear GR70, I assume I'll get bored with Diablo again and get back to Overwatch. By then, it should be summer games anyway.

There's basically no toxicity in arcade mode because it's just "for fun" for most people (and to get 3 loot boxes). I think this is the only mode I've played the last 2-3 weeks. Biggest negative is that you get less XP in that mode.

Hello friends. I've racked up maybe a dozen hours of Overwatch over the last 6mo playing at friends houses and such, about to buy a PS4 and this will probably be my first purchase. Is there a good resource for the basics right now? Basic strategy, which characters are strong at the moment, etc?

/r/overwatchuniversity isnt bad. Basic strategy: learn all the characters especially ult callouts, mystery heroes is OK for that, play QP with a bunch of different ones and see what you like, all characters can work but dps (non healers/tanks) will be the hardest to be good at especially snipers, sombra, genji.

Did I say I love Doomfist? Because I do. I know I won't have the time get really good with him or the guts to actually starting using him in comp, but holy hell, I love using him, even when I suck (which is most of the time so far).

I mean, ffs, I did a flying uppercut and then rocket punched an airborne Pharah to death. I am thankful for the new highlight save option.

I'm just so inconsistent with Doomfist. I was doing the Doomfist elimination arcade and it seemed like I was alternating between getting gold kills and getting zero.

Yeah, he's a really high skill cap character. I would expect the only ones who will be ready to use him in competitive soon are the pros who spend hours and hours a day practicing and strategizing.

I had a QP game last night where I picked him on defense on Hollywood. We won, didn't give up the first point, but I was terrible - couldn't find many spots to get in and brawl. And when I did, I was just awful with the mechanics. I literally had zero kills until the final 30 seconds, when I got three quick ones as the other team tried to rush the payload.

I got POTG.

I hope I can one day get good enough with Doomfist to play him in comp, as I think he'll be more effective with a well-balanced team, rather than a team of Hanzo, Widow, McCree, and Junkrat.

Overbuff dot com has pick percentage for the current competitive season by skill rating. Stay towards the top of whatever you place in.

This is good advice imo. When I started coming from pure fps background (cod/csgo) I didn't enjoy the whole character thing, and only played tracer and soldier forever. While it was ok too get better, by playing more characters you understand more how each player can contribute, and how the match flows differently based on what heroes are on both teams.

Since widening my range of characters (in this competitive season my 8 most played characters are all between 3-6 hours) I have way more fun, and have done way better.

lol I've gone the other direction, I started playing almost exclusively Ana/Lucio/Zen/Rein/Zarya and now only play Tracer and occasionally Sombra and switch to Soldier if they have Pharah.
