I desperately need to ban myself from reddit somehow. I can't help but look at the comments that are like 95% complaining about Overwatch's lack of content updates, and unethical gambling system.

This game is $40, includes 100% of relevant content, has incredibly good servers/matchmaking, and has released a ton of excellent balance changes... as well as two of my favorite maps in the game (I love Eichenwalde, which seems like an unpopular opinion). I have never played an FPS that does such a good job quickly addressing problems with the game. They weren't amazing with like super OP Ana/Dva, but they've refined the process a lot and have been great at using the PTR lately.

That being said, I think Hanzo is going to be such a nightmare to play against.

edit: I bought 24 anniversary lootboxes and got 4 of the legendaries. There are some cool skins in there.

You think that's bad? Check out the Hearthstone reddit. While many of the players think the latest expansion was the best yet, that reddit is so full of negative comments that I basically only look at the gameplay videos now.

So is there an event that is going on now for OW? Like the last one with a mission or something or just new loot boxes?

And did the ptr patch go live today?

Also if you all hate reddit go to r/bitcoin and get some good vibes. Also buy yourself a bit coin and thank me later.

PTR is live.

No mission, just loot boxes.

Apparently, you can upgrade a standard edition to the GOTY edition for $10. You get 10 loot boxes, the Origin skins, Tracer for HOTS, a Hearthstone card back, stuff for the other Blizzard games. The loot boxes are standard and not event loot boxes though.

I haven't personally confirmed the offer in the US, but it is apparently live in EU.

I've been playing some cs:go lately... Overwatch is like happy happy fun times compared to the cancer that is matchmaking.

edit: I have seen a lot more throwers and weird nonsense towards the end of the season. Looking forward to season 5.

Quick play and arcade is blissfully free of toxicity (for the most part). People get too intense in competitive and take it out on their teammates. So I've hardly played any competitive mode the last 2-3 weeks because of that.

Total mayhem in arcade is hilarious to blow off steam, played a couple games as Mei and was virtually unkillable with the extra cooldowns and health.

Total Mayhem was my favorite mode, I was disappointed when it was removed.

Roadhog is also amazing (a-mei-zing?) in this mode. 1200 health and near instant cool down of health regen means he is incredibly tough to kill. Plus, he has hook up so much. Only disappointing thing is that his ult pushes everyone away from you and isn't really that good in this mode.

I played one Competitive game today (I might be done - was up to 2000 SR and am now down to 1600+ - just can't get it going).

We lost, but it was a nice enough group of people, nothing toxic. There was a middle-school-sounding kid on my team who mentioned there was a tornado watch in his area. Making conversation, I asked where he lived. He said Georgia, and as I also live in Georgia, I sort of instinctively responded, "Really? Where? I live in Georgia, too."

A second after I said that, it dawned on me. And of course, someone else said, "Why don't you have a seat over there."

We laughed and I said I realize that sounded really creepy.

Also, is there is anything more disappointing in Overwatch than pulling a legendary item from a special event and having it be coins?

Having it be a dupe.

Oh yeah, that.

I bought the Chinese New Year Zen skin on what I thought was the last day. The next day, the event was still going, so I played a little and got a loot box. Sure enough, Zen skin dupe.

Ok, so it goes: Dupe of a legendary you bought for 3,000 coins > dupe of a legendary you have but didn't buy > legendary coin chest

somehow I got my SR up to 2309 in the first few weeks after buying the game, while I was learning the characters and maps etc, then I didn't play for a few months due to traveling. When I came back it had decayed to like 1900 and since then it's been a straight shot down to 1500 despite being a much better player now than I was then imo. Basically I don't think the SR translates to skill very well. Back then I was getting carried by my teammates and now I'm the one doing the carrying I think.

Don't actually care about the SR, I'm probably where I belong, but somehow I was placed way higher than I should be initially I guess.

Overwatch is on sale now. 29.99 for Standard and 39.99 for Game of the Year edition. Is it worth the 10 bucks for essentially 10 loot boxes and some skins for the game? I'm gonna try it out this weekend and if I like it make the jump to buy it.

If it's only 10 loot boxes and some skins, I'd say no.

You'll get 10 lootboxes within your first hour or two of playing, if you like any of the exclusive skins for it then maybe?

If you really like the game and are into the cosmetics of the game, the GotY edition might be worth it. In general, $10 only buys 11 boxes.

But the GotY edition gives you 10 boxes AND 5 guaranteed skins that are not otherwise available, all for the $10 difference between standard and GotY. You also get things for other Blizzard games (e.g., Tracer for HotS and a Hearthstone card back.

Since you said you've never actually played the game before, make your decision after the free weekend. As far as playability goes, there's zero difference between standard and GotY, so I'd lean towards standard unless you really love the game.

I give blizzard alot of credit in every way, but the toxicity in competitive ow is a way bigger problem than they realize. Yes its a hard problem to solve, but something needs to be changed drastically.
