Thamel #1483 is my Bnet name. Just played my first match as Reinhardt and got POTG for just doing damage to 3 opponents that died and maybe finishing off another.

Played 3 matches last night (so like 15 mins total) and then just messed around in the Practice Range with each character to get a feel for their abilities.

After 3 mins playing with each character (basically making me an expert):

The DPS all feel good. Soldier 76 is obviously the noob character that is easiest to play. Pharah is probably my favorite (and what I played in all 3 real matches). Tracer feels the weakest but all I've heard about her is that she is basically OP. I feel I have to play her since I opened 2 legendary skins for her.

Defense: All seem good. Mei can be a beast in the right hands. Bastion seems OP, I was surprised how quickly he changed forms.

Tanks: Winston seems like he sucks.

Support: Zenyatta seems fun, Lucio seems not fun. Symmetra's teleporter is a lifesaver but otherwise she seems meh.

Each role seems to have one absolutely simple character to play so even complete noobs can be effective no matter what role they want to play.

There are characters with low skill caps and high skill caps. 76 isn't as noobish as you'd think, Bastion is surprisingly easy to take out. Winston is VERY strong with a little support. Zenyatta is basically worthless imo, lucio is OP, and pharah is a monster under the right map/circumstances.

What I kinda don't like is that it usually takes another widow to countersnipe a widow going HAM on your team. Headshots are really easy to get with her and it's a 1 shot kill on any 200 health character.

Another character you might think sucks in the beginning is mei, but she's good too. No one really stands out as horrible but there are some that are competitive in far more situations than others.

I had fun playing this last night but never won a game. I'm not unfamiliar with shooters but didn't do so well going in blindly, hitting F1 to see what the hell the characters do AS I'm running in to the fray.

Yeh, there're some circumstances where you just need a sniper to cancel theirs out. I quite like trying to kill them with Soldier 76, but obviously you lose if they aren't way worse than you. Reinhardt is an effective counter in a lot of circumstances at least.

my favorite thing right now is when they counterpick reaper to your widow and try to teleport to you, and i headshot them as they're in the middle of warping to me/already at me. Easiest shot ever.

I don't understand how this game is only a 6.5 GB install. That's tiny by Blizzard's standards. StarCraft II is > 20 GB, but I guess a lot of that is cinematic.

I seriously doubt that.

Well the graphics are quite tame and the levels are all pretty small without too much fancy **** going on etc. And there aren't a ton of maps yet either so. Plus like already mentioned no campaign with tons of dialogue/music etc etc.

It is odd to be so small on PC - is 16.5 GB download / 19 GB installed on PS4

yeah Winston is the character that was spammed a lot in the few competitive games I watched.

I think his shield thing is broken for objectives I guess.

I'm going to stupidly spend $2k on a new PC so I can play Overwatch 1% better. There're the first of a new generation of video cards coming out in the next couple of days, so it's a good time to buy.

This is my frustration right now, having to go mercy every game because we have no support. It's frustrating because I don't think a team can go without Mercy - no character should be that critical. Lucio can off heal and maybe on some maps be the sole support but Mercy is so, so critical for her ultimate.

I just find her kinda boring. The one game I was allowed to go pharah yesterday, on route 66, I had a record 35 kills with at least 10 of those being solo kills, 5 gold medals (no idea how that happened), 15,000 damage and play of the game. something like 90 direct rocket hits, lol. Granted, they had 2 junkrats that I was farming the hell out of but still, I feel it's a waste for me to play support when I have characters I play a lot better. Same with widow when I'm having a good day with her.

I'm not bad with mercy, I know you need a really good sense of how the game is flowing, which ults are up, when to rez, when to use the damage boost, etc. I just don't wanna be pigeonholed into this role every time and it's killing the fun for me right now. I feel players were better in beta.

side note: mercy's pistol is way better than i had realized. i got a few random frags with it when I got cornered. I think it's probably better to be damage boosting someone rather than taking potshots, though.

Also, pharah's epic skin that's in all black is really awesome. Got one out of a loot box today, and got tracer's black skin too.

Nice timing. 3DMark puts the 1070 above Titan X and 980ti. Crazy value right now.

I assume the 1080 will be better still, and that's out in 2 days. I'm not waiting 2 weeks

I'd imagine that the actual code is a minimal part of the install size and that it's the graphic assets that take up space.

So far I've felt like Lucio is better than Mercy for point capture / king of the hill at least. His ultimate is like a free cap if everyone rushes on it. But either way I think you have three choices: 1) Keep playing support 2) Say "screw it" and just play who you find fun and don't worry about winning 3) Find some friends to play with and rope one of them into playing support more.

Finding someone to play tank characters has also been a bit challenging in my experience.

The way POTG is determined feels so random at times. To end one game, I ulted as soldier 76, and was involved in the killing of 5 enemies, quite a few of which I did a ton of damage to. Somehow I didn't get POTG, lol

Okay, a mercy on the LOSING TEAM got POTG from reviving 1 or 2 teammates and NOTHING ELSE. This is honestly ridiculous.

So was I an idiot to buy a 960 for $200 2 weeks ago?

Edit: I got the ASUS Strix 960 OC 4GB for $216. I went for the Skylake i7 with the idea that I'll drop more on a video card in a year or two. Initial Googling says my plan holds up - maybe I can pick up an 1170/1180(?) later on.
