So modders have re-enabled native VR support in Alien Isolation and it's ****ing terrifying. I can't play it in the rift. It's too much for me. Being that scared is not what I am looking for in survival horror. I believe there's a slight chance that sega removed VR support because they didn't want to be the first to cause a death with a VR horror game.

Anyway, if anyone else wants to give it a shot:

Quote:
1) in ENGINE_SETTINGS.XML (found in the DATA folder) change the stereo options to:

<Setting name="Stereo Mode">
<Quality name="Rift" precedence="4"/>
<Quality name="Off" precedence="4"/>
</Setting>

2) Set the Oculus to extended mode.

3) In the oculus configuration utility pause the service.

4) Start the game.

5) To play the game normally, reactivate the service by opening the display mode and set it to "direct to rift" and viola.

So my DK2 arrived yesterday and after extensive googling I'm still having difficulty getting it to display properly.

I've tried a few apps and they either load onto my desktop but the not the headset, or crash immediately, or one eye on the headset shows the app and the other my desktop, or it shows on the headset with a messed up resolution then crashes. The only thing that consistently works is the demo in the config utility.

I've downloaded Oculus SDK and the oculus runtime, and updated my firmware. I've added a context menu when I right click to run in oculus rift using adapter 1. My display settings are set to extended & rift display mode set to extended, rift as at 1920*1080 res and 75 hz. My other monitor is a tv screen & my gfx card is Radeon HD 7800.

Any ideas what I'm missing to get this working consistently?

What would be good would be if everyone and their grandmothers would stop announcing what awesome vr-gear they're bringing out and instead get around to actually bringing something (consumer-ready) out.

It's actually moving along really fast. It's only been a couple of years since Palmer Luckey was building devkits at home. Anyway, the Valve headset is coming in 2015. Sony has a four hour Morpheus presentation at GDC, so maybe that's coming, too.

This Valve headset is more than I think most were expecting. It has inside out tracking for walking around a room up to 15' x 15' and a solid controller solution? Shots fired, I guess. This tech is going to move so quickly. It's going to become very expensive for anyone who feels like they need the latest and greatest.

Exciting times..

I don't think I'm alone in not having a safe 15x15ft floorspace to use for gaming though???

Its all hype though. Come back to me when someone has played an awesome complete game using VR and not a 5 min demo. The possibilities are always endless until the things been out on the market and the games dont sell well enough and the production budgets arent there. Theres still videos on youtube of the awesome possibilities that the Wii offered that failed to materialise. Cant help but feel we'll still be seeing glorified tech demos a year or two from now.

Elite Dangerous, and that's just with a devkit.
Half-Life 2.
There is an endless number of games that can be played currently with an injector. I haven't played many of them, but Fallout 3 and New Vegas are excellent in VR.

I mean, there will be plenty of content when the time comes. You're asking to see an "awesome complete game" for a consumer product that doesn't even exist yet.

Im not asking to see one now im just saying i wont get excited until one exists. Everything ive seen so far just reminds me of every other bit of new tech that has come out in the past that ends up getting shunted to the side really quickly when people realise they just like playing the old way cause its easier.

You can't really judge it until you experience it for yourself. Videos are meaningless in this context. It also seems like you're trying to compare it to Kinect/Wii motion controls or something, which is just incredibly off base.

There is a four hour Morpheus presentation at GDC at 6 pm. Hopefully, we get some more info on content. AFAIK Project Cars, Super Stardust, The Witness, Kona, and War Thunder are confirmed games so far. There is a ton of smoke regarding No Man's Sky as well. Crytek will also be presenting at this talk.

Witness would be pretty cool in VR. If it really is as awesome an experience as VR sounds like, I think we'll see more puzzly exploration games like that and Talos Principle along with all the sim-fare. Myst will obviously be rererererereleased in VR version.
