I watched the stream, TB was being unbearable but the hitching was real.

From what I read you need to set framerate to MAX in game and use an external limiter.

The Phenom / early Intel crashing is it is compiled with SSE 4.1 which they don't have. "PC Performance Thread" on Neogaf is worth a read for those having trouble I reckon.

Was running like crap for me at 30 fps cap and an odd default resolution, seems ok so far after switching to 60 and my native resolution. Also like how the button prompts switch on the fly depending on which input you last used, whether mouse and keyboard or controller.

Bit of stutter but nothing stopping me from enjoying an amazing gaming experience.

Had the Morrowind moment.

Not had that for a long time.

Two hours in, not sure what to think.

Spoiler:
There're a lot of minor things to complain about. Inventory is a pain with a serious lack of inventory space and having to spend too much time moving things between your ship and yourself and dumping or selling stuff to make more room. Scanning for things brings up icons for resources and points of interest, but sometimes it's impossible to tell what something is or how close it is, you have to focus the crosshair exactly on something and sometimes it tells you how far away it is or what it is. There's no way to tell if you've discovered something already except by memory, so you spend a lot of time trying to scan the same things over and over, where they could simply have put a glowing overlay around things that you haven't discovered yet.

The seemless travel aspect isn't as compelling as I thought it would be, mostly because you can't see much when you engage the boost to travel at fast speeds to get to space, just a narrowed fov tunneling effect with lots of screen juttering. The fov in general makes it hard to get a good sense of your surrounding space, both on foot and in the ship, and controlling the ship is really poorly done while planetside, you can't really stop or look around at the ground very well, so scouting interesting things is pretty hard aside from just flying randomly and landing to do it on foot.

I've had a few random combat encounters, which were more annoying than anything since it was hard to track what was attacking me due to the fov and the vegetation and lighting of the several planets I've been on so far.

The galactic map that unlocks once you get your hyperdrive is super confusing and hard to navigate, I think I figured out the path it wants me to take to the galactic center or whatever, but I'm not sure.

All told, some interesting tech, poorly implemented, but I'm not ready to write it off yet.

You can fix the FOV, there's a file to be edited. I don't remember where (not on PC), it's in the big neogaf thread and I'm sure reddit somewhere amid all the rage.

Inventory annoyance is easily alleviated with a bit of grinding for slots:
Spoiler:
Use bypass chips on orange beacons, ask it to search for "Shelter" and go to the Drop Pods it finds 80% of the time. Bring Units.

If you are on PC you can change the FOV in options.

AFAIK the options are limited and maybe don't even work. Someone on neogaf posted pics of the file edit going to 140 FOV lol

edit: found it - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost...postcount=1363

I looked in that file and it had the FOV options set to 90, which is what I changed them to in the options panel.

Pretty sure I found my first power up planet. This place has almost every early game element on it as well as 4 crashed ships so far (none have stood out). Upgraded my multi-tool twice from 16 slots to 22.

Six planets in this solar system and the other 5 are worthless, thank god I stuck around.

Saw on reddit a fix for some of the fps and stuttering issues, cleared up most of it but not all for me, change the GSYNC property to false in the TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML file in steamapps/common/No Man's Sky/Binaries/SETTINGS. Pretty amazing that that slipped through. Also the FOV doesn't seem to do much if anything.

I redeemed the preorder ship but haven't found a crashed ship yet. There were ships I could have bought at the space station but I didn't really like the look of any of them. Still using the starting 5-slot multi-tool, haven't felt the need to bother upgrading it yet.

Currently on my 4th planet and it is the first since my starting planet to have any life. The other 2 planets and a moon were all barren but had lots of resources. On my second system. Starting system had 2 planets and a moon, current system has 5 planets. Have yet to find a planet that is hostile.

EDIT: FOV works fine for me. I switched ingame from 90 to 100 and it switched the FOV fine.

There are a lot of complaints about inventory management and I dont really get it. You dont need to carry many elements because there is always a ready supply and I can normally free a slot if I have to by re charging equipment. Even then its rare I find something that I have to pick up that I cant just get in a bit if I need it.

There just does not seem that much pressure on resources.

Also you dont need to use boost when leaving planets and I never do now because of the immersion.

I left my starting planet less than 100% discovered and want to go back to get in to 100% and claim my 200K.

Everyone knows you can press escape and go to a screen where you upload your discoveries/change their names for moneis? And this shows you total discovery status.

My favourite moment was landing on a barren high radiation planet, with nothing on the surface, had the first water I had seen, went for a dip and as I submerged a massive bio dome of gargantuan bio mass greeted me under the waves.

Yeah I 100%'d my starting planet and plan to do the same to my current one. I've been naming the animals but just uploading the starting name for the plants, rocks, and outposts.

Still haven't seen any water.

As for inventory management, upgrading your inventory is basically the whole progression of the game. The only difference between ships and multi-tools is the number of slots and what it looks like. So far I just keep a stack of each of the common resources on my ship and don't bother mining unless I see something uncommon.

Haven't gone down into any caves yet either, they seem to mostly just have more resources.

Packet analysis shows only sends outgoing data. It does not send dat about your placement in a galaxy or planet. No current framework that would allow players to see each other. No traces of any files that it was there and they took it away. Oh well! Still a massive amazing game.

I'm going to do the smart thing and wait for a couple of weeks until they have patched everything up. The multiple short delays should have confirmed they were having issues with something. They probably also wanted to delay further but public outrage was so big they didn't dare delay it further. I've never understood this btw, sure you feel disappointed when you hear the news, but unless you are dying why would you not want to wait longer for a better game?

Waiting has no downside right? Is there any downside to not being the first on a planet (which I assume will be more common in a couple of weeks) except for the "knowing you're not first"-part?

Waiting to release is 100 percent better. People will be pissed but when time comes that's washed away by an amazing, flawless game in a time where almost every game is released buggy.

The key to success in games is to make early adopters happy. They are the ones very involved in the process and willing to spread the good word. They also give you the most money for your product. When early adopters are pissed their voice will echo to the casual people not as highly involved in the gaming community and news.

Hello games avoidance of addressing people's question on the topic just made these early adopters more pissed off. Outrage is wayyyy higher now then if delayed.

I bought it on PC yesterday. When I press play in steam, my screen goes black for a second, then it throws me back to steam again.

Also confirmed there is no player model. Memory hacking allows you to move the camera. The player is invisible.

Was thinking of getting it for my PC but glad I got it on PS4, the worlds are much too pretty for a tiny 27 inch monitor. So far really enjoying it, probably carrying too much stuff that I don't need for recharging stuff.

Second planet I found with life was covered in tons of weird rock formations:

Went to a space station and finally bought a new ship. Went back to my planet and immediately did this:

Found my first water on the 7th planet/moon I discovered:
