So I'm not the only idiot to do this. Reassuring. I'll try again to remove it tonight and keep the replacement in the box. Assuming I can wrangle the damn thing apart, I'll return the replacement and stick with a pro controller.

I'll post a video here of someone doing the same thing with the black piece that allows you to hold the switch hand thing horizontally and use it as a controller and was able to get it off with the right kind of leverage

And yes every kid aged 7-infinity will put these things on the wrong piece at least once it looks incredibly easy to do

Lol Nintendo hardware.
Historically I've always found Nintendo hardware to be very high quality, in terms of not having defects and being well constructed with good materials and not wearing out easily.

Being technologically underpowered has always been their main hardware issue, at least in my experience. Well, that and their whole insistence on pushing gimmicks even if they aren't necessarily good for the games.

Granted I haven't purchased any Nintendo hardware for the last few years though, last thing I bought Nintendo was the original Wii and accessories. There do seem to be complaints about supposed cut corners with the Switch, like the docking station scratching up unit that badly in that one pic, seems like a cheap plastic issue, no way should two parts that are supposed to go together be able to do that to each other so dramatically and so quickly.

Frankly as long as the Zelda was good I was going to be fine with this purchase - it's my all time favorite franchise and while I just started playing today, this definitely looks like a game I can sink many many happy hours into.

My only issue is something that is 95% my fault, but it definitely irritated me. I wanted to start playing with the joy cons separated in my hands that see what that was like, so I went to slide the little protector/wrist strap things on. I accidentally tried to put the right con one on upside down. And goddamn if that thing isn't permanently stuck now.

So now I can't charge my right joy con. I spent a good 15 to 20 minutes trying to get that sucker off. Absolutely no chance of doing it without destroying the controller. Now, I get this is my fault for attempting to put it on backwards. However, I have to assume that this is a mistake others will make as well, given that the little controllers can easily be mistaken for right or left at a quick glance. Issue could have been avoided altogether if they had made it impossible to slide those ****ers on the wrong way. Now I have to spend FIFTY bucks to replace it. Again, mostly my fault, but I pity the poor kid/parent who makes the same mistake.

I'll take $20

Seems crazy nobody at Nintendo thought about the whole backwards wrist strap thing. It's trivially easy to build that sort of thing in a way that it slides on easily the correct way but not at all easily the wrong way.

I used the handheld mode for the first time today and it's somewhat awkward compared to the pro controller

That was my thought as well, but then I just figured I was making excuses for my own ineptitude. But it seems that this is a common enough problem that, yeah, they should have known better.

Oh well. If I can get it off then no harm done. If I can't I'm out a little money but whatever. I spent 4600 on my cat, clearly I have money to burn.

Video of people who had issues with their Switch hardware, could be a small group given how many were sold but still worth a look, particularly as it contains many, many people putting the handles on wrong and then getting pissed.

Also here's a guy doing a durability test on the Switch, useful for knowing it's weak points and what to avoid doing if you don't wanna break or damage it.

The third one there with the guy and his girlfriend of the couch was the one I was referring to. They eventually get them off using some odd thumb leverage.

I enjoy there show for the most part btw, it's called video games awesome.

Glad I found something that helped your situation. I thought the video seemed to clearly fix your problem.

I've been watching twitch streams of the game, I love the Zelda franchise, I recently re-played through A Link to the Past, this one looks awesome.

I've tried to not watch too much, just a few random streams here and there for an hour or so and watched them solve different puzzles, It looks great. I hope to one day be able to justify dropping the money for a system and the game. If you have a stream PM me the link would love to watch...Cheers!

Bump so I don't get a crappy one...??

Funny side note, Nintendo tripled the price of the Hori Stand to $35 now. Originally it was $13.77 on Amazon. They sent me an email saying there was a huge delay and asked if I still wanted it. I cancelled as I was going to look elsewhere. Today I just noticed the increase. Orzly has a cheap one for $10 (for now lol) as a heads up.

In 1996 I bought N64 at launch. I remember some dude in an AOL chat room saying that it's wise to buy the first hardware iteration because as a system's lifecycle continues, the company finds ways to cut costs on putting the hardware together. Perfect example of something that seems to make logical sense if you're stupid or young.

Yeah after the Hori one was confirmed bad it looks like this one is selling like hot cakes and is on back order.

It sounds like Nintendo stopped selling the dock separately and may do a recall (possibly).

I ordered that glass but it's going to take a while to get here so I bought the PDP screen protector for the wait and got someone at a phone store to put it on for me, seems fine so far.

Got mine today, and way impressed by the concept and the hardware. Grinding zelda atm. Seems they drew from far cry primal quite a bit, not a complaint just an observation. Loving the game, best thing I've played since GTA5.

I have no doubts this wont be a repeat of wii U, this thing is really amazing.
