Yep. Looked like "open world" style levels like SMB 64 to me. Maybe you feel like that because of the low camera?

I really wanted to like this system. I was hoping it would be the system that rekindled my love for videogames. But this presentation was a major letdown for me.

I think they're trying to do way too many things with the Switch. Mario looked cool, but everything else was rather underwhelming. Even with Mario, I'm not sure how much I like the idea of him running around in a "real" world city with "real" people. Just seems like an odd clash of worlds.

Yeah that Mario New York trailer is pretty much nostalgia cocaine for anybody who enjoyed Mario 64.

When is Kart Switch going to be released?

I loved Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy but I'm not feeling Mario New York at all. It looks awkward and not innovative.

I'll probably end up buying the Switch anyway when they make a new Smash Bros but I might just get Zelda on Wii U.

Also, Super Mario Odyssey has a bunch of other cartoony worlds besides the Mushroom Ghetto.

More mario? More zelda? Zzzzz, though I haven't been interested in Nintendo's stuff in years.

Hopefully the Nintendo server is better than wii u. Always disconnects and it's not my connection

Bowser is wearing a pimp suit so I assume he is putting Toads on the corner to suck dick for crack and Peach is his bottom bitch for this Mario In The Hood game.

If they want to sell me a bundle with a game and pro controller for $250 I'm interested, as things currently stand though...

So basically if I want Zelda and the pro controller I'm looking at $430ish?? Yikes

As long as the Mario game is a real 3D mario game, ala 64 and Galaxy, it'll be great.

The only thing that freaked me out about it was that Mario was running the entire time. I hope it's not some weird constant running ****. But I doubt that's the case.

They also said something about it being an open world sandbox game? Not sure I like the sound of that either. Grumpy old man likes things the way they have always been.

Open world/sandbox is the new MMO/MOBA

Yep, it really does feel like a big fad. It's amazing how gaming fads come and go.

I guess WoW sorta ushered in the age of MMOs and DOTA for MOBAs and Minecraft has given us the sandbox fad.

There was also the rhythm game fad via Guitar Hero.

There was the big motion control fad with the Wii, Kinnect, Move.

I will buy just to play one of the most impressive Zelda games I think I have watched. If not many more quality games get released on it, shouldnt be hard to trade in or resell on ebay.

Sandbox just means SMB64/Sunshine style non linear levels.

rant:

I pre-ordered one with Zelda and am really excited, I can't get over how much I love the Mario. But I'm also a Nintendo fanboy and with that said, I have concerns.

This is feeling very much like the Wii U to me(disclaimer: I love Wii U but it was obviously not the greatest). Nintendo didn't show me anything that makes me think they've changed much of their approach or that third parties are on board as much as people are saying they are. A lot of what's being said about the Switch was also said about the Wii U. There's still no solid news on specs and the fact that Nintendo hasn't officially announced the Wii U's specs means we might not know until launch when Digital Foundry rip one open. The gimmicks are in full force as well. No one will care about that motion control **** 5 mins after they play with it. I like how they left that aspect out of the initial trailer like it was some big reveal. Zelda, Splatoon and Mario looked cool but we knew that we were getting them already. At least give us some idea that you're working on something other than the expected titles. Even if they had just showed a picture of Samus or Captain Falcon and said "hey we're making something" it would have been enough to get some confidence up.

The biggest concern is that the Wii U launch actually had more third party support and they were all current gen ports since the PS4 and XBO hadn't launched yet. EA had FIFA, Madden and Mass Effect 3. 2K had NBA. Sega had Sonic racing. WB had an exclusive version of Arkham City and an exclusive Scribblenauts game. Activison had BLOPS 2, Skylanders and an exclusive Transformers game. Ubisoft had AC3, an exclusive AAA game and some shovelware. Namco had Tekken Tag 2 with exclusive content and another exclusive game. Koei had an updated Ninja Gaiden 3 which was exclusive at the time as well as a Warriors game. Even THQ managed to pump out Darksiders 2 before they died.

That's a decent show of support from a lot of devs compared to any console launch but when you compare it to what's been anounced for the Switch, it's a bit worrying -

Splatoon 2 (Summer 2017)
NBA 2K18 (September 2017)
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Fall 2017)
Super Mario Odyssey (Holiday 2017)
It's obviously early but with a game from 2011 being the only major third party game announced it doesn't give me much hope that the Switch will be a different story to the Wii U. It looks like the majority of it's third party titles will be similar to what the 3DS gets when they kill that and push Switch as their only hardware. I hope you like RPGs and Monster Hunter. I love Nintendo and I'm still excited for this console but ****.

I don't think that is what Sandbox means.

It does in context. SMB64/Sunshine levels were just mini "open worlds" as opposed to Galaxy/3D World's linear levels. The guy specifically mentioned SMB64 and Sunshine right after he said sandbox and in the trailer Mario jumps in some machine and travels to different enviroments. My guess is that they're just going back to making large non linear levels again.

edit: does anyone speak Japanese?
