Good stuff especially the PP and PK stuff. We've had good results on special teams so far but could always get better.

But I was a little hesitant to put too much stock into some of his recommendations for how to allocate attribute points. He seems to have some things backwards like that offensive awareness and discipline are meaningless but speed and accel (in NHL 11) matter?

i think my way of allocating points is pretty much the nuts but other than that he gives a lot of good advice

Speaking of allocating points, are we not able to reset our points for our players this year if we don't like what we're doing? Just curious.

Raise your hand if you've scored on a 1 timer off one knee.

on the attributes page hit X to change player type then pick a new type, and if you want the type you currently have just switch to whatever then back.

cant figure out the fine line from stepping up and throwing the body with my D or letting them skate backwards thru the neutral zone... i used to throw so many hits in '11 but i cannot find the balance in this game. If i hit too much they get tons of 2 v 1's but if i dont they cut to the middle and get off good shots and then clean up the rebounds...

beat: just lost as the Legends vs Team Canada... loluongo owned my soul

Basically what you want to do is control the gap between the player trying to skate into your zone and the ice after you launch him.. the bigger the gap the better.

kinda confused by the above statement ^^^

clarify between the player trying to skate into your zone after you launch him...

it pays off to play aggressively on defence, basically the closer the opposing forward gets to your blue line, the closer you play him. no free passes through the blue line.

jeebs introduced us to gap control last year and it's magical. when you have 5 players working to control that gap it's a thing of beauty. we typically have 1 forward forechecking hard, two forwards back a little bit and dmen playing aggressive at their blue line.

i suspect with the more realistic puck physics this year, dump and chase could become a strong strategy.

The key to holding the blueline is both a good gap control and also literally holding the blueline. This is far easier to do when you have persistent backchecking forwards to limit the room that opposing forwards have to maneuver. If you do it correctly though you'll almost always at least get a piece of the the opposing forward when you try to hit him, where as if you had positioned yourself behind the blueline a few feet you give him enough space to wiggle around you while staying onsides. Good forwards will really exploit you if you play like that.

Can't stress enough though that backchecking forwards is key if you want to prevent teams from gaining the blueline consistently. The better forwards will make stepping up a very risky proposition for a defenseman if they are given enough time and space to dance around before attempting to enter the zone.

any advice on where to allocate my attribute points?

i've been putting them all into strength/balance/checking in my efforts to make a power forward, but feel like i might have needed to upgrade passing/shooting/awareness (?) to make my guy more competent at actually producing
