Re: MLB12 The Show

Ok so i've played The Show since the 09 version... so needless to say I have a very good understanding of the "physics" behind the game.

However, in '12 I'm struggling to understand how to effectively hit with batters with pronounced timing mechanisms. (ie Hamilton, Uggla, or anyone where you have to start your swing early in order to get their front foot down).

In '11 The show, with the intro of analog hitting, the idea was to have your hitter's front foot land about the time they swung the bat to obtain full power.

However, in this year's version, it doesn't seem to work that way. For example, when I start Hamilton's swing early (since he has probably the most pronounced pre swing) I always get "Bad Stride" even though his front foot lands almost perfectly when I swing. This results in horrible contact.

Just wondering did they change hitting mechanics with analog hitting? Or what are you guys doing with hitters like Hamilton, Bautista, etc.

Re: MLB12 The Show

The stride timing is annoying as ****. I do it as late as I possibly can fathom doing and itll say Perfect. Is it possible to be late on the stride? Also, I get more solid contact with an early stride vs a perfect, which makes no sense to me

I am. MLB12 The Show is my favorite game ever thanks to DD. I'm surprised there hasn't been more people talking about it here.

What's your team name? I'm the Indianapolis Funk. My record is only ~33-54, but I lost a lot of games playing against the computer before I found that I do well with pure analog hitting. I'm probably ~16-16 against humans and have a 1510 online rating. That puts me in Division Series.

I renamed and edited the appearances of all my players to my real life friends and co-workers. Those guys have all retired by now. I think I'm gonna make my current players have names and appearances of characters from LOST. My uniforms are gonna be the Dharma Initiative uniforms.

I try to have players on reserve for any guy that will retire in the next couple games. I also like to have a balanced lineup instead of having one or two studs so that I don't get hurt too bad when a big bat retires. I put most of my training money into the hitting attributes. I don't worry about defense or pitching much as even good opponents struggle to score runs against average pitching. Buying packs of DD cards is the most cost effective way to get new players. You probably know about the card recycler by now. You usually get 2 silver+ cards in a pack. I usually recycle any bronze along with a silver+ to get 1 better card. I try to only use the auction when I can't get any lefty hitters in the card packs. The auction is good if you're patient and can wait for your bid to win. The buy it now option is for fish.

I'll probably think of some good tips once I play a couple games tonight.

You asked about the only two negatives of DD, imo. There are no playoffs and your opponents are chosen for you by online rating and game availability. You play 5 game seasons. Every time you play a human your online rating changes depending on win or loss and opponent's rating. At the end of your 5 game season you may be promoted or relegated to a different league depending on your rating. The prestige comes from moving up in leagues. It's kind of like the Euro soccer leagues. For example, my team rating is ~1510. That puts me in the 3rd highest of the 5 leagues. If I dip below 1500 I'll be relegated to the next lower league and if I go above 1750 I'll be promoted to the next higher league. You can see where every team is ranked in their league in the standings. The lowest league has ~40,000 teams. The higher leagues have ~5000, 2000, 200, and 20 teams respectively.

Re: MLB12 The Show

That actually sounds rather fun, but i phrased my prior post poorly, as I meant entirely two different things. The league idea was not related, just a fun idea.

How is the opponent rating system? Close to fair?

Re: MLB12 The Show

It's the ELO rating system that a lot of online games use.

I'd be down for a league or playoff if we can get a few people in. I'll look at the different settings for that tonight.

Re: MLB12 The Show

Is anyone using zone+analog for batting on legend difficulty?

I started out with Z+A on the 2nd lowest setting and was struggling big time. I finally couldn't take any more 2-1 games so I put it on rookie, and after a few days I just destroy everything. The CPU can't keep up even if I put it on legend pitching.

Anyway, I got cocky and decided to put everything on legend and go for the trophy for beating the #1 ranked team. Over 10 games played not counting rage quits and I've only scored 3 runs total.

Run 1: Walk, steal 2nd, steal 3rd, sac fly.. LOL
Run 2: Lucky homerun that I was way early on that barely stayed fair.
Run 3: 2 hits and then an RBI single

I was hoping to see someone who could actually hit with these settings but I can't even find a video of someone trying them out. Not really looking for tips or anything, just would like to see how an expert does it.

Also would be down for a league/playoff, but I have major problems with my connection in this game.. I get disconnected even while going through menus in online modes (like diamond dynasty) and every game is lag city. Apparently I'm not the only one with this problem but the fanboys on the forums just jump all over you if you complain/ask for help.

Re: MLB12 The Show

Just finished my second overall season, rookie season in the show.

Drafted by Twins, traded to cubs in year 1.

I play 2B, I have my speed at 91 now, high contact, low power, average defender at the moment.

Hit .283 for the season, 8HR and 51RBI with 22SB.

Got a 4 year 12M dollar contract. I really like this game. I seem to be doing a lot better lately, I probably hit around 260 in the first half, and 300 in the second half. I am doing much better drawing walks and not swinging at EVERY single pitch

The Cubs went 62-100 and finished about 40 games out of first. My plan is to play out my contract with the cubs, and if things don't turn around, try to get to a high offense team in the AL once I can be a FA
