Re: Minecraft

LOL yeah dude I just left it there for the next person wandering through to take. And since <20% of the server is on at any given time that's a surefire way to make sure no one's going to be pissed off about it. Fact is, I SHOULDN'T have to lock anything. You don't take something unless you are explicitly given the go ahead to do so. This is a life lesson applicable to the real world.

My chests were surrounded with torches, there were 4, on the surface, clearly placed by a human. I had cleared the area out to build on but had to log off for the night. Not only did he take my stuff, but he took the 100 or so torches I had surrounding the area. I guess I should have expected this with the aspie retard antisocial kiddie types attracted to this game.

I'm sorry dude but you're just wrong about this.

Games in general are designed in a way that encourages you to hoard/loot everything in sight. You can't expect normal social behavior to translate into games. After all, 90% of the games we play involve killing other people.

And if there is a mechanism for locking chests then not locking them is kinda dumb, no?

Re: Minecraft

It didn't occur to me to lock them until after that had happened. I forgot about that mechanism. That isn't the point. You guys are like some of my stupid friends in high school who would go out at night and try car doors to see if their owners had left them unlocked and then loot whatever valuables they had left inside. When I challenged them and said what they were doing was wrong, they would say, "Oh well they shouldn't have left the doors unlocked. It's on them." Negligence to protect property doesn't make it open season to steal.

Thing is, Minecraft isn't the real world. In the real world you can't wander into abandoned mines, kill a few spiders and loot some (game-generated) chests with diamonds.

I think most, if not all, people on our server are honorable and nice people - I've not had a problem with any of them so far. That does not mean you don't have to lock your stuff - if only to prevent mistakes from happening.

As I said - I found two chests full of stuff in the stronghold. At that point I had never seen anything like that at all. I initially left the chests as I thought the whole stronghold had to be some other players creation, but after realizing it wasn't, I looted the chests.

This isn't about protecting your stuff from "bad people" - it's about protecting your stuff from honest mistakes/misunderstandings.

And comparing this to stealing stuff from unlocked cars IRL is... well... not very reasonable.

Like DavidC, I also leave my chests unlocked if it contains stuff I don't mind others taking - I really don't see why anyone wouldn't just simply lock chests with stuff the want for themselves. It takes about 5 seconds.

Re: Minecraft

AK,

If there was no ability to lock chests then i might have some sympathy for your viewpoint. But as is you just made a simple mistake and now you want to blame everybody else for it.

It's just a game and normal societal rules don't apply. The people on the server have to make up their own ettiquette.

Re: Minecraft

I'm not blaming anyone for anything but the person who walked up to a chest that wasn't his, filled with items that weren't his, and stole them, for being a thief. Nor am I asking how I could have avoided having my items stolen. Nor your sympathy. So stop repeating yourself, you fool. I have clearly stated that it did not occur to me to lock my chests and that I did not, at the time, remember that I could do so. I didn't ask for a dissertation on how to lock a chest or your moral views on what are appropriate standards of conduct in minecraft. I don't even really care about my stuff or this game, I'm just am bothered by the wanton lack of regard for others that the self-absorbed retards who play this game have. I am done here. Have fun in blockland, losers.

I'm sure we're all looking forward to your tutorial on how a minecraft noob is supposed to tell an unmarked player placed chest from an unmarked game-generated placed chest.

Link it once you've finished it please.

Re: Minecraft

"have fun in blockland, losers" is a great closing line from an idiot who is ragequitting bc of a few items in a blockland chest

Re: Minecraft

multiplayer > singleplayer

for the most part we enjoy seeing what eachother are up to, so after you've had some time to cool down it'd be nice to see you come back.

take care man.
