Achievements might be somewhat lame...but I loved getting some extended use out of my 1300 block long minecart tunnel. 1 km in a cart? No prob.

Can anyone PM me the address of a server which doesn't cheat?

Sorry, I don't know the Minecraft term for it: I've tried MP a couple times in the past, would join a server and be allowed to just 'buy' whatever blocks I needed. Granted, the creation of these is pretty awesome - I just would love to play on a MP server where I need to dig up what I'm going to build with.

Minecraft is great value. You get a lot of hours of entertainment for roughly twenty bux. if you're on the fence about minecraft it means youve looked into it at least a little bit and chances are you'll like it because I think some one who wouldnt like it would instantly dismiss it. even if you find out you dont like it youll have gotten your moneys worth by then, because you'll spend at least 15 hours just mining and exploring and killing and crafting.

don't buy it if legos have caused past girlfriends to break up with you.

Anyone having a problem of sleeping in a bed and having a mob spawn right beside you and time not advancing?

That might be due to you placing the bed on dirt and not stone. It also may have to be inside, not sure.

You can't place your bed directly next to a wall, there has to be a gap between the bed and the wall.

You're doing something pretty wrong if you've got a bed anywhere near where monsters can spawn. Torch spam ftw.

I would appreciate this as well. I'm much more interested in working from scratch, maybe even working together to shelter and take out mobs than I am in having an unlimited resources at your disposal.

I bought it.

If one of you would like to send me server info that would be cool.. I'm going to mess around in SP before I take the MP plunge..

This, pretty sure. I've had a bed by a wall and slept fine. But put a bed in a dark area and zombie men will rape you in your sleep. No sleeping with the lights off in minecraft or your butt will never be the same.

Maybe in a world where monsters don't spawn in the dark! I mean you really to have to approach the game like that. Light = life and safety.

Mostly though you should have your area set up so that there's enough torches on the perimeter that anything that spawns has a long walk and a wall or two inbetween itself and you.

and yeah- bed next to a wall is fine as long as it's a wall monsters can't be on the other side of.

Ugh. Was doing some work building a staircase to this giant wood platform I built, didn't realize I'd switch to my flint, and set it all on fire. Not terrible, since I didn't love how it looked, but now I've got a building and a few random blocks. and a waterfall I created trying to put out the fire just floating in space. No way I'm replacing it, trying to decide if I'll build a bridge to the building, or just build up to it.

I've got a world I've been working on, in peaceful, for seven months now (pre-Halloween update). I've hallowed out a huge mountain base (lounge, bedroom, library, bowling alley, etc) with a tree farm, treehouse and a glass tower in the complex. I'll add a few screenshots in a bit.

Also, the game works MUCH better now in 1.5 for me. I went from 12-15 fps (on a six-year-old ThinkPad) to like 30 or so.

Recovered from my fire (if you compare this to previous images I've posted, you'll see what burned). Looks better IMO, a lot better in game too since there's no longer a giant platform casting a shadow down below.

(what it looked like before)

The stairs are screwed up because of a weird rendering bug- you'll see the same thing if you play without the right lighting setting.

Also note that now that they've added weather, the game choose the one place that would make me look like an idiot (where all my sugar cane and wheat is growing) to place a blizzard.

Well, the original Cartograph isn't being supported anymore, afaik. Seems like I had a bit of a struggle finding an offshoot program that I could figure out....but I eventually did after trying three or four. ...can't remember the name. I'll be home in like an hour...will hook you up then.
