If you're in a hurry in Minecraft, you're playing the wrong damn game.
Iron has other uses, so that part of your logic makes sense to me. That being said...

What is it about this game that makes people so damn judgey? Usually I'm lectured about Minecraft being a waste of time with no point. Now I'm being too productive?? JFC. I apologize and will stockpile all future diamonds for...um.......

I think you took my post wayyyyy too personally. Wasn't really directed/in response to you at all.

Just tried digging on Level 12..somewhere along 10-11-12-13ish. Took me awhile and I almost gave up, but I found a small patch. Started wacking away with stone, broke it, and then realized I didn't get diamond out of it. Forgot you couldn't do it with stone. Went back and got an iron pick. Got 5 out of what was left.

Kept going, found a huge cave with a long waterfall and some lava. Found some more diamond. Ended up getting 12 diamonds out of the whole thing.

Was an interesting adventure, but I don't want to turn it into a diamond hunt. I barely play as it is so no big deal.

If its your own server or have a copy of the map you could always install the xray vision mod which lets you see where all the minerals are in the world if you get bored of digging for diamonds.

Diamond tools make digging MUCH faster.

Well worth it imo.

Definitely exceeded my expectations ten times over. My 13 year old brother wanted it for his birthday and I decided to check it out.

I'm very glad Notch didn't discover the recipe for meth 20 years ago because I'd be dead by now if he had.

You can press F3 and it will show you a lot of stats, among them where you are in the minecraft world. The Y-figure shows your current level (0/1 being bottom of the world, 64 sea level and 128 the top of the world).

Notch just announced an official release date of 11/11/11, but it sounds like that that won't mean a ton in terms of changes for the game- sounds like now they're mostly working on bug fixes.

Wow. That seems like a long time for Notch to abstain from his favorite aspect of the work...adding new stuff, that is. hehe. I'll believe it when I see it.

A binary date is cool and appropriate for official release imo. Seems kind of far away but whatever.

$14.95 since it went beta.

With no advertising and no drm.

Does notch not realize he needs to punish his legit customers with draconian drm if he's going to make any money off a game..?

the price is in euros so it's $21,5 a piece now.

Diamonds have basically no use aside from tools and armor. Armor is pretty much a waste if you're covering your back correctly, so that leaves only 1 thing diamonds are good for: tools.

I see no reason to hoard diamonds at all.
*edit* and iron has a ton of uses, so i never make tools from iron.

Aside from that, the funky physics is one of the funnest things I've found.

Waterfall elevators, minecart systems + boosters, etc. Fun stuff to play with.

Just today I learned about nether portals.

Have not played a multiplayer server yet. Is it worth it? Seems like ppl would just tear up ur stuff.

If you are on a good server people are pretty respectful of your stuff. Also on the one I play on if you claim your land to your faction other factions can't destroy there.

A lot of servers do what they can to prevent it(like not allowing flints and/or buckets) also you can't destroy blocks in town unless you are accepted in the township or w/e.. I played on the super earth server for a while and built a house out in the wilderness away from everyone and someone filled it up with concrete when I wasn't there so when I spawned I died .. after a couple times doing that I typed /spawn right away and got out of the there and came back to it and cleaned it out(i had diamonds hidden in chests under the floor that they didn't find that I wanted back) but didn't have the desire to rebuild

My friend and I just started our own server last night off his desktop. This game is so much more fun with other people you know. we made a pretty awesome glass house. when i play alone i dont care much about aesthetics but when you play with others you want to make everything look badass.

If someone has the space it would be awesome to setup a 2p2 minecraft server

Its a lot more fun with other people.

I don't play on it but I've had a look around on the reddit minecraft server (the server ip is on their site somewhere). They have pretty good mechanisms to prevent griefing and there's a lot of buildings and a large community. The one time I went I never got round to building anything as I was looking around at all the awesome stuff they built.

With weather in 1.5 mobs can now spawn in thunderstorms due to the decreased light. Also lightning striking a pig will change it into a pigskeleton monster thing.

Oh also for those who complain about a low fps with view distances, this mod should help, can double fps for same view distance.
