It was a creeper, I think that's what it was. They are zombies that spawn in darkness, along with the other monsters. If I remember right, if it gets within like 1 block of you, it will explode and destroy everything in a large radius, as if a bomb went off. They hit hard.

I disabled the monsters so I can go anywhere I want without having to worry about being inside/in light during the night. I can work like a slave, all day and all night.

*I haven't played in awhile, got bored with it, which I expected.

That particular monster will silently run up to you and explode if you aren't paying attention, but monsters usually don't spawn in well lit areas, so it was kind of like surprise buttsecks.

Saw this yesterday and forgot to post it.

Minecraft is going into its beta stage on Dec. 20th. If I remember correctly it was announced that the focus would be put on "polish and content."

ummmmmmmmmm will one of you guys make a brief writeup about wtf is going on in this game? how are people building gigantic castles and 16-bit computers in game?

are there more things going on than: collect ****, build ****, avoid zombies?

can i play this with a friend?

do you just sit on your little island building and killing? does it get harder, or does it just get harder to build cooler stuff?

is it fun out of the gate?

it appeals to loner autistics. I would call it a simulation of existence, which is why it has a charm to it imo. The "goal" of humans it would appear, is to live without fear of one's enviroment. So the point of the game is to develop a map that generates food and defends you from the monsters without having to actually try. It\s actually a pretty hard game to do well in. Anyone can live in it like a caveman but actually progressing is pretty hard. It costs like $12 so hand wringing over whether you will like it or not is fairly moot. Look @ youtube videos and you will buy it.

So you've watched "all" the youtube vids and you're asking questions like, "Can I play this with a friend?" YOU are the worst summation of anything ever.

i watched plenty in between postings. looks like a fun game.

played the classic. unless i was doing it wrong, i couldn't collect anything and the entire thing was just random exploring. but omgomgomg digging yourself deep into the ground is so fun.

I was very actively addicted to this game for like a week after buying it...if classic mode is interesting to you at all, you WILL get your money's worth out of survival.

overall it was frustrating and rather boring. there seems a lot more to explore in the other game, mines are actually well done, etc. nether world looks lolinsane though.

I was passionately addicted to this game when I first got it. Only play a couple hours a week now tho.

Dammit, it can not be legal to create something so addicting. I can't stop. There's always something you got to do but you never get around to doing it because there's always something you want to do even more before that and before that, there's this other thing you gotta do.

I'm going to sue that Notch bastard for everything he's made from this game. Everything! But first I just gotta dig through this wall where I hear a monster-spawner. Right after I build my minecart rollercoaster. Oh, and build that underwater base.

But after that, I'm getting right on the suing. Well, gotta get me one of those hell-portals first of course. But after that, and as soon as I've found the diamonds for my new pickaxe, I'll be calling my lawyer. Unless I find something good in that cave over there.

Hi guys, been playing Minecraft for quite some time and am of course pretty addicted. Now I am trying to setup up a server to play with a friend. We are even in the same house but I suck at computers so much that despite all the tutorials on youtube and forums etc I can't get a server to work. If any of you have experience with this or could help me out would very much appreciate it.

Thanks

well...I'm not sure what I could add that youtube and the forums wouldn't cover, but I didn't have any problems getting the server goin on my network. I can even access it from outside of our network. Lets see...I downloaded the server...forwarded the default port on my router(not sure if necessary)...and changed the verify names variable to false in the server properties file as I was running the server and client on the same comp.

So...how far along are you getting? The server runs but you can't connect?

Haven't played in months but this series is awesome/hilarious. It's basically turned into a Minecraft movie around part 20.

Damn you.. For some reason I enjoy watching stuff like that more than actually playing the game.. I watched the whole X series and last night I watched the first 13 episodes of that
