Did anyone else notice minecraft has cracked half a million purchases on the main web site?

105 servers, 1624810 registered, 512827 purchases.

at $14 a time that's not bad scratch for essentially one guy and a game still in alpha.

'not bad', really? more like this guy is making ****ing bank.

its really nothing short of sick

He deserves it.

Not only did he come up with a really brilliant idea and design, but I heard that the game is 5 million lines of code. That's an insane amount of work for one man. It's at least 5 years of work coding full time.

The server update is not mandatory, but you might want to update just to make sure.

This is a bugfixes only update:

* Signs on the sides of cacti no longer crash the game
* The player won’t get stuck on the top of the world in multiplayer
* Reverted mob spawning back to the old code, it was far to annoying. I have plans on what to do with this.
* Fixed the leaf particle colors
* Reduced CPU usage for monster spawning, but there’s still a lot of work to be done to reduce lag on SMP servers.
* Attempted to fix the portal dupe bug where you could exit through a different (new) one than the one you entered through.

About the portals, it’s possible that two portals can lead to the same portal in the Nether. This is because the space down there is compressed by a factor of 8, and I haven’t come up with a good way to fix this yet.
I might just end up doing an explicit one-to-one binding between portal pairs, but that’s nontrivial as it should survive the portal being temporarily destroyed. If you TNT a portal then rebuild it, you’d expect it to still lead to the same place, right?

Hmm.

More bug updates are coming next week, mainly related to survival mode multi player.

Client 1.2.1_01 fixes armor. And I forgot to mention that Music will play in multiplayer now as well.

More updates promised for next week...guess things could be looking up for SMP?

The game is still in alpha....so yes...right now you build a cathedral and have tea with friends. You can also build a mine cart roller coaster, explore caves, build circuits with redstone. Eventually (as in a point past alpha...I can't think of a previous game that's received so much criticism before reaching beta), there will be a score and an ultimate goal (i'm guessing something to save or collect.) There will also be pvp type servers and i'm sure a score of mods.

if you play any video games youre an idiot for making this post. there is absolutely zero point in any video game besides entertainment and some people are entertained by MMOs, some by Black Ops, some by Halo, some by racing games, and yes, some are entertained by Minecraft.
