It's easy to complete missions but difficult to score well.

Maybe I'm just remembering the earlier MGS games wrong(I didn't have a PS3 or PSP so I skipped everything between 2 and this)....

But my recollection was that those games started off like, realistic, then added crazy science fiction/supernatural elements in gradually, and they were presented as weird to the characters, like they existed in our universe with generally our rules so a cybernetic ninja was seen as out of the ordinary, a mystery requiring explanation.

In this one, we start with the dial turned up to 11 and then roll it back to a nice Far Cry 4.5. Very odd. Seems like the Afghanistan conflict might take a backseat to the fact that ****ing ghost-zombie soldiers exist.

Still, holy **** this is fun. Every mission select screen is a paralyzing cornucopia of "oh **** I want to go back and do that mission better" vs. "oh but this mission is new". After way too many open world games where you just slog through what you need to for the sake of the story, this is a masterpiece.

This is the game I've been waiting for since I got my PS4 and I'm in the UK and struggling to put money on my USA account, because I don't have a USA credit card

Buy digital PSN codes off Amazon.com, give USA shipping address (they don't check it) but UK credit card is fine according to what I seem to remember reading.

I just bought the disc off amazon UK, £40 ~= $60 anyway. would be nice to have digital - but £60 lol nope.

Game seems easy when you get that girl

Spoiler:
I got that girl and she is pretty much a one person army, set her to scout the area on mission-buddy, then set her to cover you and fire at will, I do this to outposts on the way and all optional missions and I get there and she pretty much has disposed of everyone before I even arrive

Also, when do online missions start? What mission to you have to beat to do FOB

What a stupid son of a bitch cun* face I am.

I picked this up at wal-mart 4 days ago and finally have some time to play it but it doesn't show up on my ps4. I restart the system and it shows up as an unsupported disc because I grabbed the ps3 version.

Downloading it now.

haha

Also, what's the difference between playing with snake and playing with someone else from your base?

I haven't been into gaming since PS2. However MGS was always my absolute favorite series, the games were always a total blast to play.

I wasn't even aware the series was still alive, until I noticed this thread 2 hours ago. So I have OP to thank for my new purchase-

I just hope it lives up to the hype!

If you're a big series fan, try and pick up Ground Zeroes (prob only like $5 used now) - there's not much to it but it's an immediate prequel to Phantom Pain. I suppose you could just watch it on youtube also

I mean the more I play the more I feel like it just keeps opening up. If this doesn't end abruptly it might be in my GOAT conversation.

Tip about Fulton devices/selling things that most of you prolly already know:

Spoiler:
Upgrade the Fulton ASAP so you can pick up all mortars/grounded machine guns at each base. You make like 5k+ off of each. As far as I can tell so far you will not need them. Diamond Dog is the GOAT.

I don't know if the game touches on this later(I'm at mission ~10), but when you think about it, Big Boss is a ****ing truly terrible person.

He kidnaps these soldiers and prisoners and stuff and makes them work for him. AFAIK you don't pay anyone a salary, so they are slaves. And they aren't allowed to say "no", because the high level ones stay in the brig until they agree to work for you.

And then you send those guys off to die in far flung countries.

How much does that suck for all the prisoners you rescue in Side Ops?

Prisoner: "Oh thank God those Russians snatched me off the street and were keeping me prisoner, I've done nothing wrong and I just want to see my family again"

Venom Snake: "Yes, there there, you're free now. Free to work in my R&D department for the rest of your life. GET TO IT, I NEED DIFFERENT COLORED PANTS"

Please excuse my newbness, but being new to PS4, I have no idea how to start "online play"..?

On the back of the box for MGS V, it says Online Play (Optional). I'm assuming this means I can somehow play against/with other players (my friends or strangers)?

But when I start the game, I see no option for that, just the choice to continue my current single player game.

Can anyone help this newb out?

The online multiplayer stuff isn't coming till October, right now all they have are ship raids which you don't get till later in the game and I'm still not 100 percent sure how it works

FOB stuff starts like in mission 21 or 22. I haven't really touched it but I've heard of people getting a lot of their materials stolen while they were offline.

has anyone played the xbox 360 version? how does it hold up? i can't buy a new-gen console, so an xbox is the only option i have for now.

I'm concerned it will be an inferior product from which i will not get the full impact

I haven't played the x360 version but I would wager that it is in fact a much inferior product.

There's only so much juice you can squeeze out of it

This game is awesome. You don't even have to know anything about the series, just enjoy the carnage. Also there's a lot of cutscenes at the beginning but after that there's a lot less.

Seriously, this is like 2 minutes of gameplay stretched out to over an hour. What the ****.

"Gameplay".

It's like, not just an incredibly slowly paced tutorial, it's also some sort of ****ing prank to make your character be incredibly slow at moving.

It's worth it to make it through.

The storyline sucks in my opinion, but building your army later on can be very satisfying.

Currently at 72%

Only at 9% completion, but I'm really starting to get into this game.

Are you guys going back and completing every task on every mission? Or just revisiting those after finishing story?
