Ontarom in Kepler Verge->Newton.

There's alot of strange stuff on that planet. There's also an area with these shelled guys who just kind of walk around and there's some dead body near them that you can't do anything with.

Just finished. Level 49 Soldier.

I didn't finish two quests. Scanned and left no stone unturned.
- Missing 1 "rare earth" and 1 "heavy metal" for quest "UNC: Valuable Minerals."
- My decryption wasn't high enough for "Feros: Data Recovery." I couldn't go back and get the info since the elevator collapsed.

Oh well. gg.

I thought I was in this thread but I can't find it - anyway, someone warned that you should finish all the side quests before the Ilos mission, but I just did Virmire (and had already done Artemis Tau/Noveria/Feros) and it seems I can't get back to the Citadel. Am I [censored]? I just finished finding all the Matriarch's Writings and I didn't get [censored] for it, and another one of my quests was "completed" as soon as I touched down on the planet because it said I couldn't get back to the Citadel to talk to the brother of the dead dude I found.

yeah, it seems like once you go to Virmire, you are basically sayin you are done doing side quests.

Yeah. You won't get those "ally" achievements either since you didn't finish all side quests.

(If that matters to you. I'm an achievement whore).

lead the gathering missions to new questlines or is it just one mission? i'm not interested in spending xx hours looking for stuff just for some xp.

you ahave to do the sidequests to achieve the ally ones??? I thought they just had to be with you the majority of the time.

i read that the ally achievemtns are almost impossible to get with some partymembers cause you need to finish so many quests to get the achievement.

I actually did get "Completionist" and "Soldier Ally" last night. I went around to random planets after Virmire but before Ilos and did pretty much all side missions except for the geth outposts one cause fighting geth in the Mako is boring and annoying as ****. Quests were broken as hell though; for example, I landed on some random planet where there was a biotic cult, and went inside and was supposed to talk to their leader. I walked around the building 3 ****ing times and he wasn't there, so I said **** it and killed everyone in the base, but it didn't even register anything new in the quest. In another one I found some piece of Krogan armor and was supposed to talk to Wrex about it, but no conversation options relating to the armor were available next time I did.

It really, really irritates me though that you basically get nothing out of most of the side quests. The story doesn't advance at all (the Cerberus missions had the potential to be cool and have an interesting side story going on, but they just wound up being like "oh, we found their main base, go kill them"), and the gear you get isn't any more special than the gear you get in every other mission in the game. I guess you might do them just because you hate leaving stuff unfinished, but in Oblivion for example (which is a good comparison for this game, as it is essentially Oblivion in space with party members), I did all the quests I possibly could cause I wanted to, not because I felt some stupid obligation to finish everything in the game.

Plus, for anyone who complained about dungeons all looking the same in Oblivion, they're way worse in Mass Effect. In side quests there's the "derelict ship", "mine", "underground base", and "cube-shaped base" designs and the layout inside everyone one of those buildings is exactly the ****ing same.

I guess I complain a lot about games; I just look at them with a critical eye I suppose. Mass Effect is still a great game and one of the best of the year, it just has its share of flaws is all. I think Oblivion was way better. I still want to play through again to do the renegade side (did Paragon this time) and explore the different plot choices you can make, although it's more just to "see what happens" since sadly none of the choices you make really affect the rest of the game (except for the obvious one on Virmire). Having chosen Infiltrator as my class, though, I'd still have to do 3 more playthroughs to experience all the different playing styles (Soldier for getting to use shotgun/assault rifle, Tech for AI hacking or whatever (is that actually useful/fun?), and Biotic for all that jazz) and I'm not sure if that'd be worth the effort.

Also, when I started a new career after beating the game it seems to have duplicated all the items that Shepard had equipped, and saved all the items my other party members were using, because I started the game with 182 items. Oops!

goofy, pretty much agree 100% with you about the side quests. Most feel too repetitive, especially the ones on the other planets. They should take many lessons from this game for the upcoming sequels.

Goof,

Its funny how you skipped out on the Geth Outpost quests 'cause that one opens up another planet called Grissom. However, I believe it ends up with you just storming another similar base anyway. Regarding the majority of side quests though, they are repetitive and I was thinking about the maps for them as well when playing. They were all similar in some way or another and it became a chore after awhile.

The "ally" achievements just require a particular amount of main and side quests to be completed. For example, if you wanted to get the Liara one, you just do the main quests and head for the digging site before doing any other side quest. Once you have her in your party then you can start side questing.

Honestly, I had a blast playing this game. Its pretty scary to think about just how good this game could be with some minor changes.

im on one of the geth invasion mission where you can only use the makoand its driving me insane. 200 sniper/rocket trooper that see you from 200 miles away and your vehicle drives like **** and aims like **** if your on the slightest hill.

Yeah, when I beat it on insane, I almost had an aneurysm.

I resorted to just driving as fast as I could by them, missing the great xp but saving my sanity.

I really hope they revamp the Mako controls when they make the sequels.

just get to the geth mission with 1 colossus, 9 snipers/rocket troopers and some shock troopers at once. oh yeah, once you defeat them the reinforcemenets drop from the sky.

btw did anyone have the colosus armor? is there a place that has it or is it a random drop? armor drops are way too rare anyway, i've got tons of weapon and armor upgrades i don't need but am still using the same armor i had 15 levels ago.

At first I thought the sidequests on "uncharted worlds" were boring but once I learned to ignore every "anomaly" and metal deposit and just focus on the main objective on each planet I really enjoyed them despite the repetitive nature simply because the combat is so good (even in the mako although the aiming is annoying as hell). Does anyone know if I am ensuring that I don't complete any collection quests by doing this (as opposed to them being random drops)? If so I really couldn't care as these are the only weak link in the game as they have no point whatsoever, and it annoys me that they are in my journal all the time getting in the way.

Overall the story is great, one of the best in a game ever, and set in probably the most believable universe ever created. However the game is too short for my liking, which causes two main problems: the citadel being the only proper city you can just walk around, as opposed to KOTOR where most planets you landed on had a main settlement and a separate zone for combat. I do think all the planets are great, but the inclusion of at least one more planet with a fully realized city would have been nice. And secondly the stories and interactions with the crew on the Normandy are all too short, which meant I was not as emotionally attached to the crew as I wanted to be.

WARNING THERE ARE SPOILERS FROM HERE ON (DUH) DO NOT READ BEFORE FINISHING THE GAME!

Spoiler:
Things that were great about the story:
+ The Wrex showdown (most tense moment in the game, and boy was I happy I could intimidate him out of dying)
+ The loss of a crew member in the nuclear blast and the music when back on the ship really hit me hard (lol)
+ The ending
+ The way AI is handled up to the point where The Reapers are introduced
+ The characters, except for Garrus who is boring. Tali is the best.

Things that were not so great:
- The Thorian... This felt too much like filler and the whole concept is a bit lame and out of place with the rest of the universe.
- The choice to kill the Rachni... I didn't feel the emotion that was intended from this scene because in real life there is NO WAY, regardless of my "renegade or paragon" points, that I would free the Rachni. It's a choice between killing a few large bugs or probably plunging the galaxy into a future war. That no explanation for the Rachni Wars is given (eg "it wasnt our fault" etc) by the Rachni Queen makes this a no brainer for me.
- The Reapers... I think the story would have been much more believable without the inclusion of the Reapers. The Geth should have been the main enemy. The Geth are scary enough and provide enough room for escalation of the story considering they operate outside council space and could have developed into lots of cool things in 300 years.

Still, despite those criticisms I loved the story like no other game I have ever played and am already jonesing for the sequel.

Also, it's probably just because I am British but I found the male Shepard's voice pretty annoying.

Only time I found him annoying was when he called for the Normandy and told Joker he needed to speed it up "mister" . . .

So cheesy. Otherwise, I thought he was cool.
