Re: Mass Effect 3
I dunno, maybe I'm biased by how awesomely epic the ending was, but when I was done with it I was very happy with the story and how it set up ME3.

Re: Mass Effect 3
The ending was pretty spectacular imo, and I did enjoy many of the sidequests, but felt that the overall arc in the second game was lacking. Not to mention having pretty much new teammates. I wanted a more cohesive experience-not too many connections/repercussions from first game in second- that included watching your team grow and evolve with your main char. The main plot was find new squad members, and complete their quests...WTF? I already had a bad-ass squad why do I need to recruit a new team? Not too mention what they did with Shepard in the beginning was lame imo, thought they could have thought of better ways to align him with Cerberus for the second game. We'll see how ME3 sets things up tho

Re: Mass Effect 3
I do agree about the beginning, and was very upset that there weren't more of the first characters (esp Ash) in the 2nd, although I suppose that's an understandable decision. Hopefully in ME3 there will be few new characters and more badassery from the characters we know.

Re: Mass Effect 3
I'm also a little nervous about how the reapers will be dealt with, given how much it took to take down one in the first game, and a partial one in the second. How the hell are we going to take down an army without it coming off as a huge Deus ex machina? Please, please don't let it be lame..
lol, I threw Kaiden to the wolves without a second thought, thx for your sacrifice bro!

My guess is that we'll be getting our asses kicked pretty good, then uncover some crazy tech that gives us a fighting chance. Maybe upload a computer virus on a Mac?

Yeah, that's basically what ME2 did. It feels like when this trilogy is done, you could probably just play 1 and 3 and get the entire story without feeling at all like you missed what's in the middle. The whole game felt more like Episodes from the Terminus Systems than it did a continuation of the amazing story and setting that ME1 created for us. Compare the scale on which the games end: in ME1, the Citadel was almost destroyed, the Council races are all devastated, humans are made a member race, and there's this giant threat to all sentient life looming out there in dark space. Pretty important ****. In ME2, some race was running around capturing humans from assorted border world colonies and you stopped them. Doesn't seem quite as big.
There was some stuff I liked - the Collectors being descended from the Protheans was a really cool twist, as was Legion joining your team - but there wasn't enough to make the story as intriguing as the first. ME2 had some chances to do so, like when it appeared for a moment as though the Illusive Man had betrayed Shepard by sending them into the derelict ship, but then they were like "butnahhhh" and for as "Illusive" as he seemed, he really did seem to play everything with his cards face up and not really surprise us ever.

These were my thoughts on the ME2 plot (from that thread) and I stand by them. imo the "but it's the middle part of a trilogy!" deflection of criticism is a lazy way to ignore its flaws.

I hope the Illusive man dies from cancer prior to the events of ME3, game picks up as we're headed to his funeral.

Re: Mass Effect 3
In the ME2 thread someone posted the story about ME3 from GI and based on that I am very optimistic that the story will come together and end nicely.

I thought the combat was a lot of fun. What was wrong with it in your opinion?

Re: Mass Effect 3
I wasn't to big of a fan of Garrus' shooting style. I liked Tali though.
