Well at least I'm enjoying myself.

I did UB, mostly because of witch. Only whiffed one Pieces in 6 games. Switched to GRw for funsies (woo 3 minute deck changes!) and won a couple games. Top decks have knocked me out of serious contention tho.

Earned 6 wins (**** clock). Misplayed a game.. should have probably ended up 7-2. Ah well. Breakneck rider, witch, pack guardian confirmed best cards ever.

Had a lot of fun durdling around with pieces into tides but the two times I whiffed them today really hurt. Regularly got to turn 15+ or down to <10 cards left.

Anyone still play this? I started playing the sealed leagues as you can just play 9 matches at your convenience (still not as convenient as hearthstone but a huge improvement over the wait times the drafts have).

I'm liking this format but need to really work on my deck-building skills, does anyone know of any good resources to learn how to build a good sealed/limited deck?

Channelfireball has a lot of articles, most of them are for constructed formats but there are also decent amount of limited content. Starcitygames also have limited articles, but some of SCG's articles require premium account.

Hey fellas

I've been testing the new cards

I thing the Black/Blue Zombies deck is the best new deck. Cryptbreaker is really strong. Compelling Deterrence is turned on nearly all the time, and I think it's one of the top handful of cards in the format when you get to ignore the "if.." part of the text. Liliana is super strong. Her +1 kills a decent amount of stuff, and her ultimate is a very real threat. It's really hard to kill Liliana on the ground - you should be able to have a bunch of blockers reliably, the +1 plays defense, and attacking into Relentless Dead can be very costly. Dark Salvation has been pretty good but not spectacular. Gisa and Geralf has been pretty bad. I think it's the best Jace deck in the format - you get value out of the discards, and you have all the black spells to flash back, plus Compelling Deterrence.

White Weenie and Spirits seem like pretty easy match ups. I've been able to out grind the grindy control decks without much trouble. GW and Company decks are big favorites against it. Stuff that goes way over the top slaughters me pre board but I board in like 11 cards against those decks which changes things

Hey I've been away from the game for about 4 years, sold all my cards sadly. RIP.

I'd like to get back into the game. Probably play draft on modo, but I forgot how the software work. Also there have been many rules change since I left the game.

Anyone would like to coach me a bit, mostly to bring me up to date. Of course I also like to discuss strategies

besides all the new mechanics and there being energy in kaladesh the major rule changes were:

the legend/planeswalker rule - each side of the battlefield is now considered separately so you and your opponent can both have a Jace out or whatever

the Mulligan rule - The Vancouver mulligan allows players to scry 1 if they start with fewer than 7 cards in hand

drafting on modo is now a little cheaper although this has kinda tanked the value of cards on there. now that it has been around for a while v4 of modo seems to be working about as well as any previous version (so medium) while being much more aesthetically pleasing.

tried my hand at some mtgo speculating for the first time

went with some metalwork colossus early day 1 and they lost like half their value in an hour

confirmed fish

aether marvel seems oppressive for standard

5 minutes after something shows up in stream is too late. Basically good specs are:

1) long-term spec you expect will grow and are willing to sit on for years (rest in Peace is good example, they were 0.4 for a looooong time)

2) price anomalies, for some reason card is really low

3) foil mythics

4) you know more than random guy about decks that will do well on pt and spec on them

5) new card is spoiled that will increase earlier card's value, but it is not super obvious. For example, Traverse the Ulwenvald became better after ENM spoilers started.

it's crazy to me how volatile the market is. cards changing value by 300% in a day. and it always seems obvious in hindsight.

maybe the COLOSSUS will show up in top 8 otherwise it's just 10 tix lost lol

planning to play the red white deck this season, seems fun and only the copters cost anything since I already have gideons

I'm pondering if now is a good time to get back in or if I should wait for next block

Oh wait Kaladesh is set number 1 of a 2 set block. And it got lauched not long ago. Totally forget it's not 3 set block anymore. Now that change everything.

yeah two sets for block and this is a brand new one. zendikar and gatewatch don't rotate for two more sets

So how does standard works now?

2 block of 2 sets?
3 block of 3 sets?

I assume there's no such thing as core set anymore?

3 blocks of 2 sets

zendikar/gatewatch

shadows/eldritch

kaladash/next set

from what I've heard there are no longer core sets

Yeah no more core sets. 2 blocks of 2 sets a year indefinitely. I recommend anyone getting back into Magic to play limited. No large upfront cost and is fun without knowing everything.

Its decent. I like ETERNAL a bit better (made by the same company, direwolf digital) but TES is fun
