any suggestions for this standard highlander deck?
Cluestones are trash, you need more creatures and moorland haunt. You probably want Geist and Think Twice. Probably also add opportunity.

oh cool, wizards just made it harder to profit from release events. the entry fee dropped slightly but the prize support is miserable

Are there any good blue or black creatures with triggers for dealing combat damage other than Nightveil Specter and Liliana's Reaver? Just playing around with Thassa. Scroll Thief and Bident of Thassa obviously fit the bill but are probably too weak for constructed play.

Rootwater thief, Shadowmage infiltrator, ophidian, etc, etc.

Just realize you probably mean T2 haha sorry

This is 100% standard. Their mode of operation for literally every format where they've made pricing changes is to slowly make the cost to prize support ratio worse and worse until the event in question stops firing, then revert to the worst possible version when the event was still running and call it "listening to feedback."

No question players are being taken advantage of for the maximum, and Wizards knows that it's best for them if they can cultivate an environment where people lose slowly over time, even if that makes having "big winners" impossible.

But the other options for playing Magic online really, really suck in comparison to mtgo, so they can get away with it.

They are trying to keep from tanking the pack prices right away. Constructed DEs will be much better to play during the release period.

DGM Block draft, p1p1, Putrify or Boros Battleshaper?
Magic: The gathering Online Quote

It's hard to beat battleshaper; Putrify is just a solid removal spell.

Took Putrify, ended up with a pretty sick deck, then got the battleshaper rammed up my ass match 3 game 3. Arg.

battleshaper is an absolute wrecking ball.

that thing is like double visara, I mean you can often just win the game before they untap. If it lives till your next turn you almost never lose.

you also want to be in a gatecrash guild, so that tiebreaks a close call(which this isn't)

On the flip side Battleshaper isn't really a Boros card - 7 drops is not what you want in the only good Boros decks (aggro). I find mr big horns to be at his best as a splash in a control deck as a win condition (UWr, 5cG etc). Admittedly I'm slightly biased since I play control decks 80% of the time in RTR...

Battleshaper is good in any deck that can cast him. He is quite nice even in aggro since he allows all your cheap and obsolete dudes to become useful again. That sounds like exactly what aggro wants in the games that go long.

I would certainly play him in Boros, but if I first picked him I wouldn't feel compelled at all to draft a Boros only deck. He's very easily splashable after all.

Full block is much slower than gatecrash, even the hyperaggro guilds like boros

Sure, but if your boros deck isn't fast, it's not gonna do well vs the other control/mid range decks.

I'm generally annoyed with WotC price hikes, but I like this one. I was always annoyed at playing in a cube draft and ending up with a partial set of throwback packs. At least this way, you either get enough packs to play a RAV draft, or you get just points. Feels a lot cleaner.

Also, the poll results for the throwback draft just proves to me that M:tG has tons of droolers. ISD/ISD/ISD very nearly won even though DKA/ISD/ISD is still an available draft choice. WTF.

Assuming packs are worth 3 tix each rake drops from ~47% to ~34% with this change. I like it.

I guess. The appeal for me in the throwback drafts is, well, the throwback. I want to play with cards that I haven't played with in a long time, in an environment that is unfamiliar.

It's like DKA/ISD/ISD is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, that anyone can have for lunch whenever they want. Then, we're told we can have our choice of special meals for one week only: Steak sandwiches, or tacos, or ice cream, or whatever. So everyone gets together and votes, and decides they want... a peanut butter sandwich.

I love red in this cube, always have. The urge to play super powerful but slow decks is huge, and a solid sligh or r/x deck just runs em over.

Turn 1: Orcish Lumberjack. (they play a tap land)

Turn 2: Ogre Battledriver. (they play another tap land.)

Turn 3: Seige Gang Commander, swing for 16.

He didn't come back from that.
