I liked playing live when I played back in high school, but once I went to college, got a job, got married, etc. etc. spending my day packed into a moldy comic book shop and having a draft or sealed tournament eat an entire day loses a lot of the appeal.

Convenience is a big deal too. I mean, if there were seven guys ready to draft at a moments notice at my local comic shop when I can't sleep at 2:37 a.m. on a Tuesday morning, I'd play a lot more live M:tG.

Same as others have stated (in fact, I much prefer to play live) with the exception that I actually live near plenty of shops here in Sacramento but because most tournaments start at 6pm on a weekday I have to sit in traffic for an hour to get to them. The competition is also much better online on average which results in a steeper learning curve.

Anybody play Jund in Standard? What are the best sideboard cards for the mirror? Are Return and Connections the best or are there better ones? Any that are better against other decks?

Because I can play magic online without having to put clothes on.

deadbridge chant + ooze is v good in the mirror too. probably not better than just having a garruk in play though.

I'm kinda loving M14 limited at the moment. There doesn't seem to be any one color that I love or hate more than the rest (although my chances of winning with red in my deck seem to be directly tied to how many copies of Chandra's Outrage and/or Volcanic Eruption I pick up).

I'm especially loving the fact that despite a strong suite of quality removal, everyone seems to have lost their **** and suddenly thinks it's a great plan to pile a bunch of creature enchantments in your deck. People's willingness to give up easy/obvious 2 for 1s seems so prevalent in M14 that I'm starting to wonder if I missed a memo or something.

Changes in M14:

- Land drop functionality changed when playing additional land
- Legend and Planeswalker rules changed
- sideboarding rules tweaked
- Players targeting enchanted creatures more than once per match will be banned (???)

i hate it.

no mechanics, no synergies, little interaction and lots of vanilla creatures. definition of a boring set imo

I hear what you're saying, but I don't understand it.

There are two vanilla creatures at common in each color, is that more than most sets? I checked out of curiousity: M13 actually has exactly the same number, and that's if we're willing to count the artifact sliver in M14 as vanilla. It also has essentially the same number of cards that are "interactive" - in my experience there seems to be plenty of room in M14 for attacking, blocking, responding with instants, etc.

There seem to be a lot of synergies as well - card value on a lot of picks changes significantly based on color combination/previous picks, so I'm a bit lost as to what you're looking for and not finding (other than a recycled keyword).

Lets all laugh at my draft deck and tell me how to be better. Havent played for a long time.

I would change Brave the Elements and Blessing for 2 Vampire Warlords main if I where to redo the main deck. Also I would like too see a non zero number of Quag Sickness in the draft.

Suntail Hawk, Brave the Elements, Blessing and probably Divine Favor are cards I don't want in most decks. I guess you do have a bit of an enchantment thing going on here, but overall it's pretty weak and unless you have the guy that puts a 2/2 in play for each enchantment, I don't think it's a viable strategy. Without seeing the packs you picked from, it's hard to critique too specifically but either you were in the wrong colors or your card valuation is pretty off. Vampire Warlord sucks without a Tenacious Dead or two as well.

I was thinking M14 actually had more synergies than most core sets. Specifically R/W tokens, W/x enchantments, W/x lifegain, B/R sacrificing stuff, R/G beasts are all archetypes I've had success with and felt each had at least some synergy going on.

Got into Duels of the Planeswalker 2014 recently and really enjoyed the custom deck play. Are there any versions of this in the Magic Online version and how does it work? Also is there a RL alternative to this at local stores?

M14 draft may be better (only done two so reserving judgement), but after running 5 sealed release events I'm fairly confident it's a pretty awful sealed format. Curves are almost invariably awful, you're often forced to run multiple auras, splashing is near impossible, you generally won't have any synergies going etc etc. Seems way worse than M13 for sealed at least.

Personally I'd take the Nightmare. M14 does have a small "swamps matter" theme going for it with Corrupt and Quad Sickness, and I've played mono black or very heavy black based decks successfully more than once.

Chandra's Outrage is a real card though.

I like blue/red a lot for a control choice. One thing is for sure, Archeomancer goes from zero to hero really quick in u/r control. There are just buckets and buckets of great targets. It's pretty hard to lose the game after casting Opportunity twice.

red/blue is packed full of great instants, and the more you have the better they all get.
