Not the worst night. Three more 3-0 decks:

I've said this before during previous modo cubes, but I'm pretty sure Boros decks just never lose, ever, no matter how badly they come together (see the middle deck). I have an absurd winrate with that archetype.

someone else mentioned that they're likely to drop. i don't know too much about what decks are good in type 2 but i'm guessing that it's in one of them and when it gets rotated out of type 2 it'll be worth chump change.

Any thoughts on standard? Thought I might play the ptq in a few hours, probably playing some UWR Flash type thing. Not sure which direction to go in though, haven't followed the format closely.

If you're looking at UWR Flash then Matt Costa's deck list from GP Miami is probably as good a place to start as any. There's a short interview about it with the list here: http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazin...gpmia13/day1#5

***,
What's with the main deck yawgmoth's will and red elemental blast? Love these pictures of people's great decks.

Here is my favorite 3-0 of this cube, really think it's unbeatable:

Basically every game my opponent resigned when I countered their last spell and had 4+ cards in hand. Just such a crushing/demoralizing deck.

I also love looking at 3-0 decks from cube. People should post more of them. I find them instructive and entertaining.

I main decked Yawgmoth's Will because it's awesome. Seriously just an underrated card. You can often get a land out of the graveyard, with bonus points for it being Strip Mine, and then you can reuse 1-3 crucial spells in the late game.

I main decked REB because I feel that on average there are 4 blue players in any cube pool, and since I am not blue that means >50% chance my opponent has a target for REB in game one. Not only that, but the insane blowout potential of dropping a 1 mana counter or removal spell out of red is amazing. Finally nothing beats the soul crush of pre sideboarding against someone. They think you're cheating, but it's mtgo so they know you can't be.

Did you 3-0 with this? I don't think you need Tendrils - Brain Freeze is the best storm kill. Not sure what kind of sicko would take LED - that's really deep.

I'd agree with the maindeck REB for sure. Blue was/is seriously overdrafted in the current cube... everytime I left REB in my SB I regretted it.

Had a ton of fun with the cube, but I wish they'd take out Korlash. I know that's minor, but it's such a huge needle to me. I remember playing him when you could discard extra copies and tutor out Watery Graves and such... it was ridiculous. But with just a single copy in the cube... wtf? They may as well add a single copy of plague rats.

Also, remind me never to play ROE limited again. It felt like every round was two guys trying to stall each other out so they could win with wall.dec or live long enough to sink 15 mana into upgrading a guy to a Serra Angel.

I won more than I lost, but I still felt ****ty every time, with the exception of my deck that went 3-0 on the back of Awakening Zone and Sarkhan the Mad.

Ya I did 3-0 with that storm config. Tendrils > Brain freeze for finisher. It sucks going off using brain freeze and hitting an eldrazi.

I lost a game (with a different storm deck) where I was at 4 life on turn 6 facing lethal on board with brain freeze in hand, broke a memory jar, drew into palinchron+heartbeat+empty. returned palinchron 8 times, emptied for 18 tokens, ended the turn getting my brain freeze back and brain freezed for 30 during end step only to have opponent untap and boros charm me to the face during my upkeep.

I guess the advantage of brain freeze is having it in hand and using a jar knowing you can storm them out on the end step, but you can also storm small with a tendrils to gain 10 life to survive a turn then yawgwill/all suns dawn/nostalgic dreams next turn for the kill, freeze does not offer any of this additional utility.

No idea what prompted some person to take the LED in the 3rd pack, I think I took something over it at 4th or 5th pick in knowing it was going to table 99% of the time

I'm genuinely curious what you like about it. Obv. not looking for an argument or anything and I'm sure we'll disagree, but I'm open to hearing your opinion.

It just bugged me as a format because it seemed like pretty much every game turned into a huge stall followed by waiting to see who would be able to use their mana sinks/horrible overcosted stuff to break through first. I had a lot of games where I looked at my deck and thought, "wow, these cards are a pile of junk" and then won anyway because the cards my opponents had were even worse.

I liked the fact that the set had ample things to do in the late game when you had tons of mana sitting around, but it seems like they fell in love with that idea so much that they completely ignored the early game/curve.

Here are my last three 3-0s. I don't like how I built the second deck, although I didn't drop a game with that one.

Not really. I dropped one game to a pissed of gnarlid. Maybe the format (now) is just suffering from being played by a bunch of people who have no idea wtf they're doing, and would look more impressive once strategies were more refined.

Speaking of more refined, I'm currently living the dream playing a mostly green deck featuring Awakening Zone, ****loads of eldrazi spawn makers, two broodwardens, Emrakul, and a Sharkhan the Mad to top it all off.

No idea if this will actually work, but it looks decent on paper and should be pretty damn funny if it goes off. I've 3-0ed with a green based Awakening Zone/tokens/Sarkhan mess before, and the deck I currently have now is definitely better.

The format may grow on me if I actually get to hard cast this emrakul.

Lost round 1 to the guy who managed to go

Turn 2 - Overgrown Battlement
Turn 3 - Vent Sentinel
Turn 4 - Vent Sentinel

in two of our three games.

MtG needs more walls imo.

hey,

I'm interested in learning to play the game. Is there any credible chance of an android version coming out in the forseeable future? I see that the answer in this thread was "no" back in April 2012, and there seems to be some cut-down version now in the Google Play store. Is that a good place to start?

(by way of background, around 15 years ago I played a heap of the Star Wars CCG and a handful of games of M:TG back then)

I like playing live, but the closest store to me in an hour away and draws about 25 people for most non-standard events. It's hard to even make it there, so trying to keep up with standard (which is what is mostly played) is not worth the money/effort. Cubing/EDHing with friends is awesome though.

Paper can be more fun but online is so much more convenient and when you dont live near any stores or know any other local players it can be your only option. Until very recently I lived >2 hours from the nearest place that sold cards and >3 hours from anywhere that actually had events.

That version is certainly a good intro to the game and a good way to start learning the main rules and mechanics. Unfortunately its also the only version likely to hit mobile devices for a long time, as noted in the earlier discussions Wizards is being very careful not to push too hard with any of the online stuff and allow it to overtake paper Magic in any way.
