yeah alt-tab or go do something else while it installs

Most horrifically long dl/install process of any non-MMO game I've ever seen I must say

Yaaaay. Go 5-0 in my league. Thanks Benholio!

Now to play some tiebreakers.

Dammit...So I guess 1st prize is like...54 packs. Which means I'm going to be playing tiebreakers for days.

I'm setting the O/U on total matches I play before league's end at 200.

EDIT: I really shouldn't complain, though, what with the value of Mutavault and Bitterblossom + probably 18+ packs.

Benholio, if you play MODO, I would definitely throw a couple of packs your way for your help (and then feel bad about not sending any to lenny, but thems the breaks)

Playing one of those leagues, supposedly their 4 weeks long? name is Chaos716 but I won't be playing anymore till tonight. Will probably lose though, deck I have now is Blue-white and I really just don't have enough spells-enchantments to make the small creatures work out long enough.

Nice work Macdaddy. I seem to never be able to win that fifth match to go 5-0. Sooo many 4-1's.

I do play on MODO as Benholio, but there is no need to be shipping packs. I have company in town this week, so not much playing time, but I'll be hitting the draft queues once or twice a day after that. At least until I deplete my release event prizes. (I opened mutavault+bitterblossom in my first release too, heh, woot!)

Release leagues = 1 week
Other leagues = 4 weeks

Man, I hate MOMIR basic. It's like Mtg, but with double the luck, and half the skill.

I haven't played Vanguard in a long time, but apparently there's a new dominating avatar that lets you put nothing but spells in your deck, and play them as lands. That sounds like absolutely perfect MTG to me. No flood, no screw, every resource is a strategic decision, OMG. They should make that a format, not MOMIR.

I think the point of MOMIR is that it's the only format where you can be competitive with a $12 deck

Brandonjp: Yeah, and they let you add a booster each week. Usually there are some overpowered decks by the last week as a result.

0-4 at least I won one game in that match. I now remember why I quit playing, I suck at drawing cards.

I used to play magic back in the day, and a little online a couple years ago. This thread made me check out my old account and get back into things. I think I'm gonna try to do a release league to familiarize myself with the new stuff. My name on there is ama41185 and I've been playing a couple matches with my old cards.

Ship the 18 Morningtide packs! I started 8-0 in a release league, then had a break-even record for ~20 matches, lol. Still enough for 8th place. First place in a release league is a whopping 52 packs, wow.

Kinda funny how I get more excited winning 18 packs than I do winning two buyins playing poker.

Damn you vg forum! I used to play magic casually about 10 years ago and am thinking of playing mtgo. Just what I need, more incentive to not play poker

Some questions for the experts:

Cheapest way to get tickets -- I read some article (that I can't find atm) that suggested buying core packs, then trading those for tickets which would get the price to about .80/per. I didn't see this mentioned in the thread so I'm wondering whats up.

Staying power -- I played StarChamber ( a pretty sweet online ccg) a few years back but it looked like it might be dieing. I really hate getting into something that might be on the way out. I'm guessing this isn't a concern with mtgo in the near future, but I'm curious to see where you guys think it might be at in 3-5 years.

'Lame' themes/artwork -- My enjoyment of playing a game (vg, bg, ccg, w/e) is greatly enhanced if I think its 'cool'. The aforementioned StarChamber had some great artwork and card ideas and also a nice dark tone with the exception of the ******ed slug race whatever they were called (gg memory). I generally prefer my fantasy dark and I realize that magic isn't going to fill that bill though there are some exceptions.

Fine, but I really hate fairies. They seem prevalent in the newer cardsets I briefly looked at. If I join, I'm planning on playing some leagues and whatnot to begin with but may wind up playing constructed eventually if I get into it. Based on whats hot right now, what is a competitive deck going to look like? 30 fairy cards + some goblins that look like they belong in a kiddie book sprinkled with a couple of assassins?

Appreciate any help

Pretty sure there has been a recent re-investment by Wizards that is focused on getting new players to start playing the game. Plus the game is going fairly strong. Any game that has been around 15 years and is still innovating is probably going to be around for the long haul.

The next block supposedly focuses on a blight that befalls the current plane, Lorwyn. I've seen some of the artwork; your want for dark fantasy will be fulfilled. Still plenty of faeries though

Anyone willing to give me any advice with what type of deck I should use in the sealed tourny. I'm doing a Lorwyn and Morningtide tourny and I've been using blue and white with decent success. Just hoping to get some help from more experienced players.

Yeah particularly in sealed. In draft you can try to force a color combination (though usually not recommended), but if you're just opening a large pool of random cards your colors are going to depend on what exactly you opened.
