How did I not see that snake umbra could be vented. Hmm.. I'm unsure about green because then the warmonger's pretty much useless, my removal is cut into a third (because totem-guide is also removal), and I can't search my deck for the lust for war.

I ended up splitting in the finals of the 84.

There were a couple games (notably against blue flyers) that I needed to sub in the leaf arrow and both spider umbras and 3 forests. Never tried the green creatures just because I wanted to keep it a walls deck. I worry that splitting between two strats usually just results in a 2nd round-ish loss so I like to gamble on a deck that works together. It was nice basically always having a wall and vent out by turn 4.

Consume the meek turned out to be vicious against me.

Pretty close, what 7 green cards do we play?

Wurm, 2 gnarlid, battlement, bear, snake, spider umbras?

u run wurm, bear, gnarlidx2 snake battle spider

given u play white i would've ran the repel the darkness over the crusher. the crusher doesn't do anything for u whatsoever.

btw i have no idea about how u could've drafted that deck. must've been better cards out there.

out of 9 top 3 type picks u have stagger, bear, pelakka, battlemat, rapacious, crusher, lust and maybe 2x gnarlid?

I tried this deck out once with pretty close to the same cards and just got run over by flyers with more "removal" + a soulbound like u

am i the only person not looking forward to M11?

those sets tend to be textless and rather boring

The crusher turned out to be huge against the BR deck. Removal was wiping out my walls too quickly to do much damage, but it let me get to bigger mana. Crusher swooped in for a clutch game win.

And sometimes walls just works. My first couple of picks were actually the green stuff, but that quickly dried up. It went like.. wurm, gnarlid, wall, lust for war, wall of omens, warmongers... and then all the green was pretty much gone. All 3 vents were picked up in the last pack.

Yeah I hate it, boring decks and no great synergy.

Regular sets are more fun because theres more hidden gems you discover over time, with M10/M11 the value of the cards is pretty apparent.

wow that's pretty sick. I played about 10 MED drafts this time and the time before when it was nixtix and the most valuable card I got was a hymn to tourach. And it was in a pack I got passed

1 Underground Sea and 1 Scrubland in 3 MED drafts do +18tix though I'm 0-3 in matches.
Format is terrible and I can't figure out what colors to force.

lolololololol FNM

Start the draft standardish, p1 lightning bolt, p2 Chandra's Outrage.

Pick 3? Liliana.

Pick 4? Cyclops Gladiator.

Pick 5? Vengeful Archon.

Probably why i've shipped 5 drafts in a row, lost in the finals for this draft though.

Also quick rules tip/advice: Be ****ing careful with counting the cards you take from packs. In my normal group (non sanctioned) we pull the token and the land from our opening pack, and i've had to break that habit for FNM. Last night we get to the end of pack 2 and one of the packs is off a card. I count my cards, I have 31. Apparently the floor rules state you shuffle up all your cards, and the person thats short picks one at random, which scares the **** out of me because losing a bomb to this mistake would ****ing suck. Luckily they pulled garbage (I think), but just a warning.

most side drafts at ptqs have taken basic non-foil land out, and the token/rules card

it really doesn't change anything(outside of getting rid of the challenge lol)

I draft u/x 3c control pretty much everytime, the format is all tempo; either you die quickly or you die on turn 15+ and blue has all the late game tools.

me1 is completely miserable but you can make the most of it, 1u horned turtle you get 10th pick in me1 is a ridiculous bomb its so high above the curve, lots of little sideboard cards in pro black and pro red (+late pick dystopia, which because most people play green/ or uw is maindeckable); don't worry about picking them over the mediocre maindeck cards.

Is it possible for someone who had a crappy deck (dropped about 200 bucks or so after the free beta ended) to play this without dumping any or very little money into this? Or should I just not worry about this until I'm rich? I remember it got really expensive really fast.

I'm just getting back into magic after a long haitus and I was just had a few questions

1) Is the new core set called Magic 2011 because they release a new core set every year now. It used to be every other year I thought.

2) Those planes walkers cards like Jace, can you only use their ability once a turn as a sorcery? I know you can directly attack them but can you cast direct damage at them?

3) Why are the drafts on MODO Roe/Roe/Roe and Zen/Zen/Wwk instead of Roe/Zen/Wwk. Is there some kind of new draft format?

1) yes
2) yes, direct damage that is done to a player can be redirected to Planeswalker.
ie: Lightning Bolt, targeting you. Resolution redirect damage to Jace
3) Roe is considered a stand-alone set with no additional expansions within it's block. Zen/Wwk was an "experimental two set block"

thx, so the next set will be normal, first set is large and the next two are small and they all count as the same block

Yes, it should be back to the status quo.
Next set is Scars of Mirrodin, not much is really known about it yet but I can't imagine it to be as artifact heavy as Mirrodin was as it really turned players off the 1st time around.

Ya Mirrodin was the last set I played in full so it would be a little disappointing to have an artifact block again, even minus the sillyness that was arcbound ravager. But I dont see why it wouldnt artifacts.

One note about plainswalkers: loss of life cannot be redirected to them. Ex. Target player loses 2 life cannot hit Jace. It is worth reading over an M10 rule book as there are a few other changes as well.
