Thanks, I'm seeing a lot of similarly lukewarm reviews.

Might go for Alien Isolation (also 75% off) instead.

For real, what is the big deal about this game? I've never heard of it, but everyone is talking it up.

Graphics and story aren't anything special, the gameplay is just satisfying. Fast paced third person shooter with a really cool slide mechanic.

Plenty of time to get through 10-15% of your backlog

Alan Wake's music license is about to expire so it will be pulled from Steam on the 15th. It will be 90% off before that. Grab it now if you're curious. A lot of people loved it so letting people know but it was way too repetitive for my liking. First hour or so is great though.

If you don't own Alan Wake by now, you don't want to play it.

It's been the 13th for 4 hours here. I'm outraged that it's not on sale yet!

Hey all,

Battlegrounds is so so good. Like I think it needs its own thread. Thoughts?

This game or whatever variant comes from it is the future, it's going to replace counter strike and all the other e-sports FPS games (CoD, GoW, etc etc). I feel very strongly about this.

Dungeon Keeper - finally got around to installing this and giving it a whirl. Simple RTS originally released in 1997 where you are the bad guy who runs a dungeon and has to deal with pesky heroes who show up and try to steal your gold and kill your minions. Lots of fun stuff with a wicked sense of humor. It took me a long time to be willing to slap my imps with the Hand of Evil to make them work faster. Never really got into the spells, other than summoning more imps and maybe a lightning bolt here and there. I tried the Heal spell a few times but combat is such a huge mess that I gave up on that and the spell system in general. The way they designed the game shows a lot of love and attention to detail. The way some creatures dislike other creatures, or will refuse to do certain jobs adds a bunch of color to the experience. Made it about ten levels in before it started to get repetitive.

Master of Orion - turn based strategy game like Civilization in space from 1993. Had always heard good things about this and how it was a classic. Was not disappointed. Played a game based on what the manual recommends - medium galaxy, 3 other races, be the ant people. The manual also stresses to not get into conflict with more than one other race at a time but those backstabbers all kept surprise attacking me so at one point I was at war with all 3 of them at the same time. Lucky for me, my ants are hard workers and I quickly developed a ship with 4 gatling gun lasers that mowed down pretty much anyone who wanted a piece. Funny how quickly the dinosaur people wanted to end hostilities (that they started) once they got a taste of some rapid fire lasers. Just kind of jumped into the game while skimming the manual so it took a while to figure out how to invade and take over enemy planets but eventually I got it and they started falling like dominoes.

Being able to build your own ships from various components and technologies you research is pretty cool, but I was overwhelmed with all the extensive options. The other races kept voting to put the rock people in charge but I always had enough votes to block that. Eventually everyone fell in line and nominated me to be supreme ruler of the galaxy after I genocided one species and the other two realized the wisdom of putting me in charge.

The entire game is 26mb lol.

If someone is looking for a different take on the dungeon keeper formula, remember that there is evil genius on gog. Somewhat flawed in some areas, but it's still a modern and quirky game with interesting ideas.
