That is supposed to be part of the game, difficult and clumsy controls are there to add an artificial challenge to the gameplay to make it frustrating but enjoyable when you complete your goal. You could just watch youtube videos of let's plays and reviews of games you might want to purchase to see if you would like them if you do not want to waste any more money.

Yah, it looks like a game that took a lot of inspiration from Octodad, and pissing you off with controlling the character is the main reason to play that game.

All you need is a regular usb-cable.

Then you'll need MotioninJoy (which is a free program) which will take care of drivers and controller setup.

Some games, like Binding of Isaac, I could not get to work without also using Joy2Key (another free program) but Isaac is not very controller friendly...

That said - I got tired of having to juggle those two programs and doing all the setup stuff, so in the end I just bought a Logitech F710 Gamepad which works really well.

the reason isaac wouldnt work without JtK is that is the only program they were able to fit into the game that gave controller support. Isaac rebirth will have that issue fixed.

Hoi3 is a fantastic WW2 simulator, that has the option to mod it to perfection. Be warned tho, it's really complicated and heavy on micro, but is super deep! The pack also lacks the latest expansion ( "Their fines hour"). The expansion is ace and you should def think about getting it. Very rewarding game if / when you win.

Victoria 2 is the evolution ( in timeline terms ) of EU. Has the option to play a big part in the US Civil War ( as the expansion suggest with the name ), but the entire world is simulated, not just the US. Also possible to mod to perfection. Lacks the second and latest expansion ( "A heart of darkness"), never played the expansion tho, so can't comment.

The other games are not worth it imho.

If you like Paradox Games, I highly reccomend getting a full Crusader Kings 2 Package. It's imho the best game for a newbie as fare as accessibility / depth goes.
