honest not troll question: how come people love another h1 clone like these battlegrounds? tried watching it on twitch for a bit, it seems pretty much all the same, there's ****load of wait time after you die (right?) and I have no idea why another early access survival game is getting so popular, weren't the previous games never finished? it boggles my mind a bit. and again, not trying to hate, just find it unusual

As far as I understood it, people are fed up with a game that sees no advancement via patches and has been in a buggy state for ages, while having no big name competitors and with a ton of people still loving the genre.

Now the general idea seems to be that Battleground will be a new hope in the genre, with devs reacting quickly to player feedback and implementing new features. How true that is going to be is anyone's guess, but that's how far i got from reading dedicated subreddits. I guess there is still untapped potential in the genre and people are waiting for a really good game to fill a void right now full of mediocre stuff. Battleground seems to have sold 2 million copies, so I guess it got a bit of traction.

WTF? Fallout 4 is $80 CAD. I figured it'd be reduced by now and I could grab it for $30ish.

Someone shoot me a PM if they notice it going on sale please.

Now that you mention it, yes. It was annoying to try to do things with creatures using the hand, especially when a bunch of creatures were all on the screen at the same time. Never figured out how to easily select a specific creature among a group of like creatures, such as quickly selecting the one level 2 imp in a group of mostly level 1 imps.

Gave Master of Orion another go after reading through the manual. Did the same setup as last time, and it was a lot easier now that I kind of had an idea of what I was doing and what was more and less useful. This time it was bears, birds, and humans. The humans immediately wanted to ally and trade, and I was down with that, then they turned on a dime at one point and told me they needed to eradicate me from the galaxy. I told them I'd like to see their ***** asses try. It did not go so well for them. They eventually came back begging for mercy but **** that, I slaughtered every last filthy human.

The bear people huffed and puffed and tried to be threatening, but they were so far behind from a technology standpoint that I almost felt bad putting them out of their misery.

The bird people didn't show up until late in the game and the reluctantly told me they had to go to war due to being allied with the humans but they didn't expect either of us to win. Their MO was to have groups of lots of little ships, some of the groups were 1000+ ships. This was the opposite of what I had done, building a few uber huge heavily armed and armored behemoths of destruction. My weapons were not great for taking out lots of little ships so I'd constantly be running away from the swarms while firing lasers behind me, pecking off 7-15 at a time. Those battles usually timed out.

Spying and stealing technology is pretty broken in the mid-game, it saves so much time, even when you're already far ahead in the tech race. Sabotaging factories seems like a total waste, and inciting rebellions is fun but not sure how useful it is.

Will likely give MoO one more go using more enemies and a larger galaxy and see what happens.

Yes to all of the above.
The only thing that makes me a little bit uneasy is it seems like they are keeping Tropico's quirky retro vibe, I'm a little worried it's just going to be Tropico on a red desert.

I want straight up hard science! I'm talking Kim Stanley Robinson ****.

Master of Orion 2 is a significant improvement on Master of Orion 1 imo, it downscales the battles to be more focused on individual ships and really increases the tactical complexity of each battle which helps the late game tedium, plus it introduces some fun elements that the original lacks.

It also, 19 years later, still has the best tech tree and best custom race creation screen of any 4X game.

Sword of the Stars I clearly has a better tech tree, which is a Civ-style tech tree (although with fewer dependencies between branches of the tree) but with the existence or nonexistence of certain links (generally to non-core or high-level techs) randomly determined at the start of the game (with the chance of having a link dependent on your race). The reason it's better is that getting or not getting certain techs creates a lot of on-the-fly adaption to having a different toolkit in each game. The MoO2 approach leads more to having a mostly predetermined "build." Also it's hard to make any thematic sense of what the MoO2 system is supposed to be representing.

Also have MoO2 downloaded but not yet installed. MoO2 was the really popular one back in the day, right? Going to need a turn based strategy break between the two of them.

Gave MoO1 another run using a higher difficulty setting (average), 5 opponents, and a large size galaxy. Still played the ants, I like them.

Lots more diplomacy and trading this time around. Almost lost the 2/3rds Emperor vote multiple times to the silicone people who somehow managed to have 8 planets by the time I had 3. They don't need to develop tech to colonize hostile worlds but it still seemed crazy just how fast they started off. Quickly established a trade agreement, figuring I'd let them colonize all the hostile worlds then just invade and take them over later, without having to deal with developing the hostile world colonization tech myself.

With 5 other races out there, the galaxy got colonized pretty fast and it was a little concerning that the silicones had so many more planets. Decided to focus on planetary tech to have a shot, and that worked out well, allowing faster resource development and eventually out-teching the psilons who get a huge natural bonus to tech dev. My tech tree never offered factory optimization and I kept trying to steal it from everyone else who had it, but eventually got it by invading a nearby metal dude planet. Got something like 6-7 techs just from taking over one planet, and went off from there.

Still overwhelmed with all the weapon options. I never know which ones to pick after locking up gatling lasers.

One thing I noticed this time around was how everyone was at war with everyone else for most of the game. I sat snug, developed lots of missile bases, and didn't bother building any kind of fleet other than a few enemy exploration dissuaders.

Managed to finally make my first alliances, and then immediately had my allies demanding that I go to war against their enemies with them. Also inadvertently wiped out most of my diplomatic efforts by genociding the metal dudes, but got like 18 techs from doing it so seems fine.

Eventually got the factory optimization ball rolling for real and used my heroin millions to convert all my planets to Gaias and scooping up infinite tech from all the trees. Made some sweet planet smashing behemoths and started the steamroller toward the silicone dudes after wiping out the metal dudes. Didn't get too far in because was elected Emperor pretty fast after that.

If I didn't already have Kentucky Route Zero and Steamworld I would snap buy at least BTA. Don't know much about Owlboy but I know it had a lot of hype due to the long development cycle.

Phantom Dust re(ish)master is free for Xbox One and PC. Cross platform multiplayer and cross platform saves.

For those who haven't heard of it, Phantom Dust was a Xbox 1(uh, "the original Xbox"? Idk) cult classic 3rd person action/arena fighting collectible card game with destructible environments? It's real tough to explain, which is why it's a cult classic instead of a franchise, but it's real real good.

if anything there is little to no wait time in PUB. you die very often, especially in the team/group setting. solo is a bit more forgiving imo.

dying is life.

the game is probably the best version of battle royale out right now, with many updates happening and planned. they seem to care about the community a bit more, i think that was their goal. to make a battle royale game that actually updates/gets rid of hackers.

PUB is super popular i think because of the easy access and it literally gets your heart rate up super high when its a big firefight or you are down to under 10 people left which ive never had a game do to me before.

it has some graphical flaws and optimization issues and the lag can be someone bad to very bad sometimes, no idea why it fluctuates so much.

ive done about 210 group matches and won 6 times. finally got 1 solo win too after 30 games total. it feels ****ing amazing to win solo and winning group is pretty nice too, but i got carried a few times in those.
