Re: Let's talk about Steam and buy mountains of games

I also grabbed Burnout Paradise, might as well burn another five quid, heaven knows when I'll play it.

I see the next set of deals is up, 50% off Dead Space is incredibly tempting, mirrors edge 75% off as well, anyone want to tell me how great either of these are?

I have both for PS3.

Dead Space is actually a really decent Horror Survival game. I found it really interesting with some good atmosphere and good ideas. It's not brilliant, but me and a few friends really enjoyed taking turns at playing it. It's a bit short and it sucks that you unlock more difficulty settings as you play, because it can be a bit easy at times. Sometimes the story has those " bah, i knew that was gonna happen " but you get over it. The weapons and the physics are just pure awesomeness imo Some small replay value too.

Mirrors edge is a really innovative game. The movements are really fluid and the artistic presentation is supreme. The only problem with the game is that the story is a bit "meh" and it can get repetitive after a while. After all, you are only running and jumping the entire time. I never really finished it due to my old PS3 breaking and me losing all the saves, but it was still a decent title. Campaign has no replay value, and speed courses can get old after a while.

$60 for the spore pack seems like a pretty terrible "deal"

Mirrors edge and Dead Space are both great deals though.

Yeah Spore doesn't interest me really, it looked great when it first was announced but failed to live up to expectations, and as you say that is no kind of deal.

Thanks to YouR_DooM for your summary of Dead Space and Mirrors Edge, suddenly they are BOTH tempting me!

Re: Let's talk about Steam and buy mountains of games

Aaaand spore is still crappily expensive for a game that's been out over two years now. Over £30 for it and an expansion pack? Ha. I've been waiting for over two years for the price to go down, I guess I can wait some more.

£3 for Mirrors edge is good enough for me

Ya, your_doom's review of Mirror's Edge makes it sound like a great $5 game. Just bought it.

Re: Let's talk about Steam and buy mountains of games

It's a snap buy for 5$. I wouldn't even think about it.

If you are like me, and don't suffer from motion sickness, the first few levels are pure awesomeness imo. After those, it's the same with new colors.

EDIT: ya, so I just opened steam to check the prices: Dead Space and Mirrors Edge are snap-buys imo. For 15€ together there is no better value. You'll get easily 10-15 hours out of them ( If you don't to achievements / speed courses / stars that is ). Spore is an incredibly bad value: complete pack for 50€? Yeah, gtfo.

Steam owns me but I just got access to OnLive and so far it delivers. We'll see what happens as more people get added and their library gets built up.

Ah hah, this is the one I was waiting for, Mass Effect 2 at 40% off. I've held off in this one for months because I had so much other stuff still unplayed but really wanted it.

Also Mass Effect 1 is 75% off which is an instant buy if you haven't played it, it's a great story "space" opera. I actually found the combat pretty tiresome though but the story and interactions were engrossing.

Re: Let's talk about Steam and buy mountains of games

Steam really wants me to buy games that I'll never play. It's just so damned hard to pass up on $5 games that are 80+ on metacritic.

For this week's sale I've picked up Red Alert 3, Mirror's Edge, and Mass Effect for a total of $25.

Yarg. Its an expensive week. Just got mass effect 1 and 2.

Luckily I've already got Dragon Age, otherwise I might have had to buy that as well tomorrow. I've heard the expansions for it aren't that good so I'm probably safe from them too.

Grabbed mirror's edge and mass effect as well. Don't really care if they're good at this point, $10 is hard to get upset about.

Then I went out and bought Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario (whatever the wii version is called) and Tiger Woods for the PS3 and spent about $90.

Steam is so much nicer to my bank account.

I passed on RA3. I probably should have bought it, but I already have like five games. By the time I finish even three of those, RA3 will be $15 without a sale.
