Does anyone have thoughts about Battle Brothers?

If you're into STGs/Bullet Hell then there's a bunch of better options than BH2 imo.

My recommendations that are on sale -

Mushihimesama
Dodonpachi Resurrection
Deathsmiles
Eschatos
Dariusburst
Raiden 3 and 4
Blue Revolver
Crimson Clover
Caladrius Blaze
Shikigami no Shiro
Bot Vice
Danmaku Unlimited 2
XIIZEAL

What part of the game draws you to it? If you're just after a good turn based grid style tactical combat game I'd recommend Banner Saga 1 and 2 over it.

Combat in Battle Brothers is massively better than Banner Saga.

Banner Saga has much better narrative and storytelling, world building etc.

What did you like better about the combat? The larger parties were cumbersome to me and it was so much wait for them to engage, wait for them to engage.

Banner Saga, especially #2 I thought was awesome. I enjoyed Battle Brothers but as far as the combat/gameplay goes I thought Banner Saga was more enjoyable. The item/trading system in Battle Brothers was more fleshed out I guess.

Have any other suggestions for that genre?

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs

Not cheap, but good fun.

I was looking at this game. Care to give a short review?

I've been busy recently, so haven't got hugely deep into it as of yet.

First impressions are that there is a lot of content for a smallish kickstarter game. The combat is decent, and the 'challenges' you can do in fights for extra rewards make it interesting (e.g. kill all the enemies with one character). There's a lot of other stuff to do besides combat (city building/upgrading, improving companions/npcs, etc.).

You're set time limits to complete the main quest, so time management is important, as well as resource management. I can definitely see it being replayable as you won't be able do everything.

I can see it's style could be a bit hit or miss for people. The writing is pretty cheesy, but can be quite funny if you don't mind some light, silly humour.

Not many negatives. The price - for what you get it seems fair, but you can probably get similar quality games much cheaper. Also lots of loading screens are a bit annoying.

I feel bunch of these games would be better if they scrapped that combat. It is often the most tedious part of the game. Of course, without it, the games might feel too hollow.

Was hoping that Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments would be 75% off but seems it's only 50% again. The Devil's Daughter seems to be 65% off but some reviews seem not so great. I liked The Testament of Sherlock Holmes so wanted something similar. Are the other two holmes games good and will it be strange to play Devil's Daughter first? Since it's got a bigger discount this sale I'm thinking of getting that.

Has anyone tried Nex Machina? Getting great reviews from press and shmup players but would like to hear some non press and shmup player opinions.

Crimes and Punishments was more like a series of short self-contained mysteries without any real overarching plot unlike Testament, but otherwise played mostly the same with maybe slightly easier puzzles and better graphics. I haven't played the new one yet, so can't comment.

ok thanks for the info, think I'll stick it out for the 75% sale on it then, sounds like it's not as good... mostly out of principle

I think a new better set of videos is now from Das Valdez on twitch. The videos are current and also well done. Look for his twitch KSP tutorial videos.

My biggest piece of advice is to use the Kerbal Engineering Redux mod. It provides a gas gauge for rockets. (Delta V)

That along with a Delta V website for delta V's needed for different destinations is invaluable.

Many people argue that it should be part of the standard game.

This may be common knowledge, but it was new to me, so figured I'd give a heads up to others who may not know:

Always check if the game you want is in a bundle before buying it as you'll get it cheaper if you already have the other games in that bundle.

I went to the Civilization franchise page and figured I'd pick up Civ VI - thankfully I didn't just pick it up there at the 40% but clicked through to the store page for that game and there saw that it was in a bundle with XCOM 2. Since I've already got X2, I just had to pay for Civ VI , and still got the 25% additional bundle discount on top of the 40% for that.

Took me a while to figure out what was going on with that price

Yeah, me too. With commas and letters and stuff, it is confusing.

ON a related note. At least for the duration of the Summer Sale Stardock has an "UPGRADE" feature which will allow u 2 upgrade from Star Civ 1 or 2 straight to Star Civ 3 for less than $5. Or you can go all out and buy the latest star civ 3 expansion and get the base game for "free."
