Problem with gog is that there exist so many good, fairly new and cheap games that people simply don't have time for old games except for the few masterpieces.

Yes, I think so. It definitely absorbed my weekend, although I don't think it is immune to my normal trend of playing a 4X game for a week and then putting it down for a while. If you like 4X games, you like space, and cost is no object, I see no reason not to get it. Might not be worth it if you're only willing to spend $30 or whatnot on something you will get max value out of in terms of hours played.

It's somewhere between Civ and a Paradox game on the complexity scale, although I found that at least on the "Normal" difficulty much of the micromanagement options were wholly unnecessary to success. That being said, it does seem like taking advantage of the little details can be quite impactful (or game-breaking) when used properly.

I haven't experienced very many bugs (not many I have noticed, I suppose) and certainly nothing like a corrupted save or a crash. Some of the mechanics are underdeveloped, but no more so than in other games. I.e., diplomacy is bad, but not worse than in recent Civ games.
