Re: Let's talk about Steam and buy mountains of games
ck2 doesn't seem like it would be as fun as say Eu3 playing multiplayer, since most of the time you're just managing your own kingdom. Maybe I'm not playing ck2 right though.

Re: Let's talk about Steam and buy mountains of games
Nice sale, bought:
Crysis 2
Batman: Arkham City
Metro 2033
Allan Wake + Allan Wake's American Nightmare
Driver San Fransisco
Trine 2
Hitman: Blood Money
Counterstrike Source (€9.99 WHY U NO FLASHSALE?)
Half-Life
Half-Life: Opposing Force
Portal 2
Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
Almost pulled trigger on Witcher 2 and Deus Ex: Human Evolution, but figured I had enough new stuff to get into already and they seemed rather complex.

Re: Let's talk about Steam and buy mountains of games
Pretty awesome sale; I don't even game a whole lot these days (maybe a couple hours a week). But a bought a whole bunch of stuff, since basically everything I've been interested in over the last few years but never bothered to play was on special.
Mostly I'm pretty happy with my new collection - currently playing Deus EX: HR which I'm liking so far.
However - one annoying point - probably half of what I bough, was further discounted in the following days - by the end of the sale it was driving me completely bonkers. Some stuff I paid three times what it finally ended up going for!
Anyway - I probably have enough games to last me the next 10 years now.

Re: Let's talk about Steam and buy mountains of games
Playing currently mostly Binding of Isaac and Bastion, at first I didn't like Bastion all that much due to fight mechanics but you get used to quickly and the storytelling is amazing. The game has been structured also very well. I love that I have bought so many new games which I would never heard of if it wasn't for the sale.
However, I didn't get hooked up on DayZ yet, hmm... Played about an hour so far and closed it.

Got Bastion as well, looking forward to it once I'm finished with Cave Story, Torchlight, and Dungeons of Dredmoor.
Opening Steam makes me sad now. During the summer sale I couldn't wait to see the updates, seriously can't recall being that excited about gaming in a long time. Now I've binged, and the sales are gone, and I just look at the featured stuff and think, "meh."
Edit: Not sure if I'll buy Torchlight 2. Torchlight seems like a great game, but there are a lot of things that are featured prominently (like pet management, summoning, and traps) which I understand are popular, but they aren't my cup of tea. It makes the game feel shallower to me than it probably actually is.

Re: Let's talk about Steam and buy mountains of games
Got Torchlight, Bastion, Isaac, Meatboy, Limbo and Magicka
Torchlight doesn't start, it just flickers black and the cursor changes and the music plays. Might be related to the dual monitor setup but quick googling didn't bring up anything. Any way to force it to start in windowed mode?

not sure if it will work, but try this:
go to steam, right click on torchlight, go to properties. click set launch options, and type -windowed
if that doesn't work, then i'd probably just send in a support ticket to steam and see if they have a solution.

Heh didn't even know this existed. Tried -windowed and -window then googled a bit and saw SAFEMODE-1 is recommened. That just brings up a Torchlight image and then crashes :O
Edit: -noaafonts option did the trick dunno why but I won't complain. Don't need pretty fonts anyways :P

Re: Let's talk about Steam and buy mountains of games
Man, nostalgia is a hell of a drug. Growing up in the 80s and enjoying point and click games a lot as a kid, I broke down and finally got Back to the Future: the Game during the Steam summer sale, and honestly it's been a long time I just straight up enjoyed a game this much.
Initial reaction
It does a great job as a point and click (solutions to puzzles are subtle enough to be challenging and fun, but not absurd, "oh, of course you combine the sushi and the machine gun!" type stuff).
It does a great job capturing the flavor of Back to the Future. They made this claim in the Makng Of videos, but I didn't really believe it - but they really did. The music, voice acting, game themes, etc. blend together in a way that evokes memories of the original movies, but also gives you a new experience at the same time.
Edit: I also love what they did with the hints and tips you can receive in game - they added a hint button, but also a sliding scale of how often and what kind of hints you receive. It lets me turn the hints off and play without any help, but still strongly recommend the game to my dad (who doesn't play a lot of games, but liked point and clicks like Full Throttle, but would rather think about a puzzle for a few minutes, then just get the answer and move on to the next thing if he can't figure it out relatively quickly).
It's kind of an odd little project as it's a niche within a niche, but for the people that happen to occupy that space, BttF: the game is about as cool as it gets imo.
Now I'm kinda sad I didn't get the Telltale Games bundle during the Steam Summer Sale, I'm curious what else this developer is doing. If all their projects are handled with the same amount of care I imagine they have a pretty solid catalog.
